HI I would like to know if anyone knows what the big gem or stone, or pearl is that is on it. On both sides of the big stone is a place for two little gems in which one is missing. The one that is there is blood red and looks like a ruby, or red diamond. If someone could give me as much information as they can if they are familiar with this ring. All this ring has on it is 18k, I tested it and it is white gold. Thanks

You can't really tell from your pictures but it looks like a cat's eye of some kind. I'm guessing Sillimanite cat's eye which is not worth much. Mabye $10 a carat if that. I highly doubt those are red diamonds. They don't even look faceted from the pictures. I'm guessing they are garnet cabs. It is a very pretty ring, but if you are looking to resale it I wouldn't bother. The only thing you will probably get is scrape metal value for the gold.

However with that said it is very unique so if you have inherited this ring it is definitely worth it to keep it just because it is so different.

You might want to hit the report concern button on the right and request this thread get moved to the Colored Stone forum. you might get more responses there.

The main stone looks like it may be a black star sapphire.

GF you are right!!! Sorry I was looking up Cat's eye for a friend when I was typing and I must have still had it on the brain.

HEY thanks for the reply's and information. I will move it to the other forum just to see what they say even though you both are probably right. I did look at some pictures of rubies though and they look really similar, even the way they said they would be cut matches. Anyways thanks for everything.

Consider smoky topaz. I have one in my Imperial Rus collection. Looks identical.

After looking at some picks of the black star sapphire It a match. I am now 99 percent sure that is what the stone is. Now to find out what the little gem is. This one will be hard to determine because it looks like a lot of the images I have looked at.. Thanks

It looks like a black star sapphire BUT please be aware that these can be synthetic and the "star" can also be artificially impregnated into the stone. There is no way to tell from your photos if it is real or not but if you go to a good jeweller who is used to dealing with coloured gemstones they may be able to help.

I'm guessing black star sapphire but it could be synthetic since the legs are extremely straight. As for the little stone, it's hard to say because your picture is so blurry but it looks faceted, just very worn out. Highly unlikely to be a ruby or diamond because of the main stone used. Or if it is, I suspect a synthetic stone as well. Of course we are all guessing but a quick RI check by a gemmologist will settle it for sure. Synthetics will have the same RI as a natural stone so the gemmologist will have to look for other clues to distinguish the two from each other.
