So first I want to thank Charmypoo for her very helpful cushion thread- it's a great resource and I know that must have taken you a lot of time and energy and it's much appreciated.

I am going to look at an antique cushion tomorrow but being that I have never seen one IRL before and still not fully absorbing everything that Charmy posted about cushions I would love to get some feedback from PSers.
I only have a bit of info regarding it so far. It's a 4 carat JVS1 with only an EGL cert.

I welcome all thoughts, advice and opinions. Thanks!

I think you should get it so I can stop obsessing over it.

Hi Laila, thanks for the link...I keep missing some good threads! Hmmm, I am so nervous to go see it tomorrow because I feel like I have been all over the place with what I really want. I want size and I want beauty and I love old cuts. But, I have no idea how to evaluate cushions at all. In fact, I barely know how to evaluate rounds (jk, jk :cheeky: ). One concern is the color because I love colorless but I know antique stones face up a bit softer on color and so color may not be as noticeable. I guess I'll see tomorrow. But I'm nervous. I know Adam has a good reputation though so I am hoping he will be totally truthful with me about any drawbacks of this stone.

Thanks for the kind words. I think the diamond is gorgeous!!

When you look at it tomorrow, have Adam show you higher colors so you can compare and see if it is too yellow for you. Adam has plenty of inventory so it will be easy for him to show you.

Thank you Charmy! That's a great idea.
Does Adam have ASETs or any other tools to measure leakage? If he doesn't do I just go by my eyes?

Oh Missy I've been loving that stone from afar for some time. I can't wait to hear what you think!! Good luck!

Oh Missy! I don't have any experience with antique cuts either but this looks amazing!! I'll be waiting to hear what your thoughts were!

I don't remember him having an ASET. Just use your eyes and the loupe!

I think it looks AMAZING! And huge!

OK, thanks again Charmypoo. I appreciate your help!

Thanks Rosebloom and Christina and Stargurl. I'll let you guys know what I think.

For an antique cushion, I think it's STUNNING!!!

Another vote for gorgeous! Good luck...I'm sure she is prettier in person!

It's beautiful - my dream stone. I had it bookmarked. Mr K won't every buy it for me so it will be nice for it to go to a good home!

I still have the same opinion - a GORGEOUS stone, but overpriced IMO. I would love to hear your opinion on it after you see it in real life.

Thanks o4diamond, tyty, misskittycat and justginger.
Today's the day. Just wish I had more (some) experience with evaluating cushions!

I am very sure you'll love it. It looks fabulous!

DO EEETTTTTT! :)
It looks super gorgeous! Good Luck today! :appl:

Well, I went and saw the cushion today and it really is lovely...but...I didn't get it....however...I got a different stone!!!! This one spoke to me and pulled at my heart strings and I will say it is totally not what I would have ever imagined I would fall in love with ever. Ever ever ever. On paper I would have rejected it outright but in person, well, I am in love! I don't have it yet but Adam is putting it in a (maybe)temporary setting because I don't have any idea as to the best forever home for it so in the meantime I really liked this antiquey setting he had so I said do it! Here's a teaser pic...(OK I'll do a couple of pics :cheeky: )

Congrats on finding a stone that makes your heart sing! What are the stats? And what, pray tell, what wrong with the cushion?

Yay! This is so nice to see after your yellow diamond saga.

Thank you mercoledi.

Nothing is wrong with the cushion and while it is beautiful it just didn't do it for me. Adam showed me a lot of diamonds and I was drawn to this one which I cannot believe because it is an L color!!! This is from someone who never thought she would want to go below a GIA G color lol!!

I'll post the stats for you.

ETA: that's hard to read so here is the info again:
Carat Weight: 4.56

Oh my gosh, girl it's fabulous!!!! :cheeky: <--------DROOL!!

Ohhhh my goodness

That stone is absolutely gorgeous - more than the cushion, more than the yellow - I can see why it stole your heart even in the pics!!

This, and your rose quartz pendant... there's not much left to do but drool

The OMC morphed into an OEC. Congrats on such a beauty!

:appl: :appl: :appl: MISSY!!! :appl: :appl: :appl:
THAT STONE IS STUNNING!! Holy Cow!! What a great diamond it is GORGEOUS! - and those stats... hubba hubba!! :naughty:

It hardly looks big enough on your hands --- I can barely see that little twinkle - where? where is it? ... oh! there it is!!!   (JK - it is completely HUGE on you!)

um - jaw dropping deliciousness!! and that setting is perfect! I'd keep that for quite a while - i love the crown and the little scroll work. Ah... heavenly!!!

Really beautiful! Can't tell it's an L! What will you do w/ your original MRB?

Awww, thanks Laila, Yssie, Chrono and Enerchi and mom2boys!! LOL Enerchi- you always make me smile!!!

I admit I am a bit nervous as I don't know much about OEC's either. I just know I think it's beautiful and I have always wanted one since my mom took the one I had been wearing (it belonged to my great grandmother and then my grandmother) away when I got engaged. I still feel sad when I think about that because it reminded me of my grandma. Now it's sitting in my mother's safe unworn and unloved. So that's the backstory-I have wanted an old cut since that happened and I just didn't realize how much till recently.

mom2boys- I traded it in for this stone and that is why I am nervous. Just hoping I won't regret it. When I was there though I felt like this was the right move and my dh loved the stone as well.

Adam was great. He was showing me all his beautiful old cuts and it came down to 3. The 4 carat JVS1 cushion and then a 3.3 something J OEC which faced up like a G IMO and then this little girl. It was no contest when I looked at the 3 of them. She sang to me "take me home with you take me home with you" and how could I not oblige? She needs a loving and warm home and we're just the couple to give it to her!! But I am still feeling a bit sick inside because I hope I didn't make a mistake. I don't know if any of you ever experience this after a (big) purchase-my dh said he never does so I just hope I didn't make a huge mistake and that it will look just as lovely when I get her home in a few days.

Thanks for all your support-PSers are the best (enablers!! LOL) in the world!

I understand the tug of 'uh oh' you are going thru, but just how you have expressed your story above, I feel that this is the 'something' you have been searching for. The appeal of the yellow radiant was "BIG/DIFFERENT/BOLD" and that was tainted by the manager and how she handled the situation. This was a fun, exciting experience with a well respected PS vendor who many have had such wonderful experiences with! Adam is very good at what he does and seems to find the perfect stones to work with their new 'owners'!! I think the fact it reminds you of your grandmother and brings you closer to her, that will help you part with your MRB... and... your DH is on board!!! You have a "perfect storm" situation here!!

I'm so happy for you!!! Enjoy this beauty - does she have a name??? Holly and Maya and Poppy are taken... What is your grandmother's name? Maybe that could be what you call her! :praise:

So OWD does accept MRB's also, not just old cuts, for trade in? Good to know! Was it a fair trade in value if I may ask? I'm usually a MRB girl but all of these old cuts are so tempting! I hope you enjoy wearing it for many years to come!
