Need help re Cushion

Thanks mom2boys. I know-the old cuts are just so full of personality!
As for if it was a fair trade well, I got quotes from a few vendors and Adam offered me more than the others. It certainly wasn't near what we paid for it though but I didn't expect that since I didn't purchase the diamond from them. We got the diamond before PS or we would have totally gone with a vendor that did full trade up value. But that was in the past and now we know better. I think I will enjoy wearing this little girl much more than my other diamond who was also very pretty but a bit vanilla if you kwim. Not that vanilla is bad....it's my favorite flavor of ice cream after all-it's just I was longing for an old cut.

MISSY!!!!! WOWOWOWOW!!!!!!   SO EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!! :appl: :appl:

I understand the tug of 'uh oh' you are going thru, but just how you have expressed your story above, I feel that this is the 'something' you have been searching for. The appeal of the yellow radiant was "BIG/DIFFERENT/BOLD" and that was tainted by the manager and how she handled the situation. This was a fun, exciting experience with a well respected PS vendor who many have had such wonderful experiences with! Adam is very good at what he does and seems to find the perfect stones to work with their new 'owners'!! I think the fact it reminds you of your grandmother and brings you closer to her, that will help you part with your MRB... and... your DH is on board!!! You have a "perfect storm" situation here!!

I'm so happy for you!!! Enjoy this beauty - does she have a name??? Holly and Maya and Poppy are taken... What is your grandmother's name? Maybe that could be what you call her! :praise:

Awww, thanks Enerchi. You always know the right thing to say. I started crying in Adam's office (I'm a big baby I know) because the story came up near the end of the appointment and I couldn't stop from tearing up a bit. I miss her so much and my mom is being so unreasonable here. I just don't understand why it is sitting unworn in the safe. Why? But it's her ring to do with what she wants I realize that so I never bring it up anymore. Not my business but I wish I understood why. I have nothing from my grandma (well some of her pocketbooks that I cherish) and it makes me sad.

Thanks for understanding...big (((hugs)))!
Not sure of a name yet. I never named my jewelry before but since it's a PS thing to do I will have to think about it. My grandma's name was Beatrice...maybe I should name her that or Bea? Everyone called her Bea. Hmmm, I'll think about it.

Oh, thank you MayK!!!!! I appreciate that!!!

HI:

What an amazing stone Missy  --very glad it spoke to you and you identified with it.

You endured some trying times in 2012, may the joy of this help to ease some of those difficult memories.

Wear it in health! :wavey:

cheers--Sharon

I understand being worried if you made the right choice, but I think you really got a killer OEC!! That facet pattern is just yummy. For someone who doesn't know much about old cuts, you sure have a good eye! Did Adam say anything about the very thin girdle? Is it cause for concern or no?

ETA: I think Bea is a perfect name for her!!

Amazing stone and FWIW- I love the setting that you have for her.....

"Bea"!!! That's perfect - Bea for Beautiful!!! Oh... that's so totally what I would go for - its the perfect sentimental name for a stone that had you crying when you saw it. Perfect! :halo:

{{{HUGS}}}}

Thank you Sharon- you're such a dear. I appreciate your kind words.

Laila- we discussed that and he feels confident that if I choose a different setting his benchperson can thicken it up (or something like that lol not sure of the exact words he used). In this current setting it will be totally safe according to him.

Thank you so much gregchang-I really appreciate your opinion on that. I made that decision so quickly that it helps reinforce my impulsive setting decision to hear someone else likes it too!

Enerchi- consider it done then. Bea she is!!! Thank you for helping me name her! :appl:

Perfect!! :appl: Then you should have no worries at all, you made a wonderful decision!

Missy!!!! :o Wow!!!! What a shopping trip you went on today!!! That is a gorgeous stone and the setting looks really great, too! :appl:

I know how you feel because I always worry about a big purchase, but it sounds like you knew you loved this diamond when you saw it!!! But I am sure there is a return period so you really don't need to worry at all! I think seeing the stone in your own environment and in different lighting will help you feel more certain you have made the right choice! I am especially interested to hear how you adjust to the L color. You were lucky to get one with accurate GIA color grading!!! I do think the large size helps the color issues. The facets are larger and the color is not as concentrated as it is in a smaller stone. That is my idea, anyway!

I can't wait until Bea is ready and we can have a Show Me the Bling thread!!!! :appl:

What was it about the cushion that didn't bowl you over? It certainly is amazing in the picture!

Missy Bea is Beautiful and your story about your grandmother is very touching. The setting you choose looks perfect for her!
Enjoy! I can't wait for your SMTB thread :))

Thanks DS. I am looking forward to getting her home and seeing how she behaves in different environments.
The cushion is beautiful but the faceting and the shape didn't draw me in as much as this OEC if that makes sense. Also, the color, while it is higher is not that much higher. To my eye, and to Adam's eye, it was only a grade difference despite the EGL J rating. Imagine that LOL. So, when it came right down to it, the OEC just won out in almost every aspect (size, faceting, shape) and the color was only one grade lower than the cushion and face up not even IMO. They almost appeared to be the same color face up. The OEC just had that certain je ne sais quoi that made it very appealing.

I like your thinking re size and color issues DS!!

Thank you woofmama!

I LOVE the look of that stone.

I LOVE the look of that setting.

I'd LOVE approximately a gazillion pics once it's on your hand.

In short, nicely done! And, yeah ... In a weird way, with old cuts, I feel like EGL periodically works out nicely for the (well-informed) consumer. Sometimes they grade high, which sucks, but if you can judge that for yourself, their inconsistency can lower the asking price. Not bad, if you can live with a little uncertainty ... in this case, in your favor. Sweet!

She was fortunate to by a GIA L graded stone, so she knew what she was getting! I'd certainly would have expected it to equal the EGL J.

I missed that! In that case, implied compliment to EGL retracted, all sun shining on Missy and Bea!

Thank you Circe! I was this close to asking for your help today. It would have been so nice to have you there with us because you have eyes I know I can trust. But then I thought, you have a baby, you have many obligations, you are crazy busy with your own life etc etc. And we weren't even sure what time we were going to get to Adam's because I had a doctor's appointment at 8AM this morning and it's always a long time there (3 hours today-exhausting). So by the time we got to Adam's it was already 11AM. But anyway, just wanted you to know I was so thinking of you today and how much I would have loved you there with us. :wavey:
