Thank you for all of your input. I have already returned the stone, but the information is helpful for me as I continue my search. I have so much to learn! I am going to keep looking for a pretty pad (or pad-colored spinel), so if you see one, please post (see my other thread requesting help with this).

I think those spinels are beautiful but I'd have to see them in person. What do you mean about being eagle-eyed?

Eagle eyed = sharp vision
If you have sharp vision and can spot minute things from 6 or 8 or 10 inches away AND what you see bothers you, then the stone might not be mind clean to you (you know it is there even though you cannot see it from 12 inches away).
