My diamond is a EC 1.5 and even though I have a setting that I love, the more I am obsessed with looking at Pricescope rings irl, the more I'm convinced that I want a different style now (Had not looked at any settings before we chose it. It was literally the first one we picked). Plus I bought it at the store mall and the closer I look the more things I see that need to be fixed.. such as the different level of heights of the diamonds in the channel setting etc. I'm going to ask the store (chain jewelry store) to fix it for me but I highly doubt they will but it will be nonreturnable once I do... and if I can find a more unique setting for a cheap price I would love to get it instead! Please help!

The next two posts are examples of the rings I saw that I would like my setting to be but with:
1. a very thin, delicate halo if any, I want to optimize the diamond's visibility.
2. a channel setting but not all around (halfway to cut down on the cost)
3. thin single prongs
4. under $1000 (would that even be possible)
5. the material would probably have to be white gold especially because I don't think I can afford platinum.

Thanks for any help in advance!

Emerald Lover''s ring. Beautiful.. I believe it''s a Tacori (2620 maybe?)

The first pic.

Simple yet classy and beautiful. Huge prongs though... and I can't find where this one actually came from either.

Cinna: I really love your ring. I actually like the prongs-the shape is unique and the benefit is that they protect the stone. Its really stunning!

Bgray, just want to make sure you're not misunderstanding... My ring? I wish!

The pics I posted are examples of the type of setting I would like but can't afford so need help with finding something similar in my budget.

But.. I do agree with you. The rings makes me go

oh sorry! well it is stunning! okay so you are looking for something similar for $1000 right?

It most certainly is! Which is why I want it so much!

I would have already bought it in a heartbeat if I could afford it but I'm not too sure about the thick prongs since my diamond isn't as big as the one used in that ring and might be too much for it.

Yeah, if possible under $1000. I would say it would be my limit. So that rules out most or all brand names. If there is something perfect but over by a couple hundred, then I'll just say not to get me a birthday/christmas present and just spend it on the setting. I've been looking high and low but nothing as pretty or as similar to these two I love that I can actually afford.

I will look around--honestly i see lots of settings that have a lot more diamonds and are not much more than that. have you considered just emailing Brian Gavin and asking if they can make that for you? they are great, great prices and top quality. may i ask generally where you live because there may be some jewelers close to you that people know of as well

What I like about these two in particular are that even though they may have quite a few diamonds lined up in the band, channel or pave, it still looks so clean, simple, and elegant.. and not bulky and doesn't take away from the centerstone.

Thank so much Bgray!!! I will go ahead and email him, I just rationalized that custom work would 99% of the time cost more than I would be willing to pay if I couldn't afford it online. I was also going to stop by Quest Jewelers in Fairfax next week to see if they had anything similar or custom make something like it but still did not have high hopes of being in my budget. My ideal would be around $600-800 but I am sure it is impossible seeing that the minimum would be at least $1500 for a setting like this.

Cinna:

So funny. I was going to suggest Quest. I am from Virginia and my mom has had some beautiful stuff made by Quest. There prices were very competitive. It cant hurt to ask. I would email Brian Gavin too--you never know.

Just emailed him from his website, and even quoted your "great, great prices and top quality" line

I''m in Maryland (side note: which is why I don''t use James Allen for anything since they''ll tax me) and heading up there later to see Martin Fuller about my diamond! Figured I''d stop by there too if I''m already in VA. I will definitely have to ask them as well and bring these pictures along. Even more excited now about the e-ring-to-be!

good luck--i will be watching for your update!

Hi, just thinking that Adwar would have some great setting for you to look at ( www.adwar.com). I priced a few out for a colored stone I am getting and the prices were super reasonable (I asked briangavindiamonds.com for pricing). Also look at Stuller (www.stuller.com). Both of these are wholesalers that do not sell to the public, but any jeweler on here can get their settings in and finish them for you.

http://www.stuller.com/products/products.aspx?gid=100320&cid=8240 How about this one? Since it is for a peg head it can accomodate a emerald cut with no problem. Would look great!

I emailed Briangavin''s and they said it would be a minimum of $2000.

I did mention that the halo is optional, and the diamonds in the channel wouldn''t have to go all the way around due to my budget. Figured but again couldn''t hurt to ask though. =)

Adwar and Stuller will be next on my list to check out as soon as I get some free time. Off on my way to work but was able to glance at the Stuller. Very pretty and simple, I''ll have to email them although the diamonds might be a little too big in the band but I figure they''ll figure it out... I wonder how much the diamonds in the channel setting would cost.

Double post.

I'm speaking with Lesley at Brian Gavin seeing if they can fit my emerald cut into one of their simplest but yet stunningly beautiful settings. We shall see! And I've also emailed whiteflash as well. (Side note but I test drived my ring for a bit today and the skin directly under my ring is mildly irritated and thinking it might be from the 14k. Hoping 18k is good)

I'll ask this later if the setting is possible with an Emerald Cut, but from what I can tell "Catalog settings may be purchased without a diamond. However if you decide to return the setting it must be in its original condition. Any setting that has been worked on by a jeweler is a final sale. The Life Time Warranty does not apply to settings that have had the diamond set into them by another jeweler." So I'm assuming they will be able to set my diamond if I ship it to them for a fee and this will let me be within the Lifetime warranty.

However, if I wanted to see the setting before sending the diamond, I would have to wait to receive the setting, send it back with the diamond and then wait for it to come back again. My goodness, that'll take longer than I would like! I want to get engaged/ start wearing the beautiful ring asap!

Cinna: I think you are in good hands with Lesley. I think you are better off with a well designed band that may be less bling than you wanted than something of lower quality. My e-ring (made by Brian) is very plain but I think it gives me options to accesorize with bands and such without such a commitment for the setting.

Exactly what I'm thinking.

I love their bead Cathedral and after I sent an email to them, I saw another pricescoper's pictures of it irl and it just blew me away. Simple yet gorgeous. Lesley is seeing if my emerald cut diamond is able to fit in the setting but if it is able to, I am seeing if I can purchase a matching wedding band along with it.

I have a question for you though. I hear that you should get your prongs checked every six months or so. But if you buy from Brian Gavin, do you have to ship it back every so often? How does it work?

A side note: Anyone know how to message a user? I want to know more details about the same setting she purchased from Brian Gavin. I'm worried the diamond could sit too high on my finger.
