Looking at the following two diamonds. My search has been focused on a VS2, I diamond between 1.3-1.5 carats. When jumped down to SI1s it seemed that the options opened. I''m a little hesitant on the SI1s although I know my GF is willing to sacrifice color/clarity for some. Here are the two I''m considering and would love to hear any thoughts (good and bad). By the way, the budget is between ~$7-8K for the diamond. Thanks.

By the way, the HCA came out .8 on the BlueNile stone and 1.8 on the Brian Gavin stone. Other points I''m considering the selection of settings between the two vendors (I prefer to get a matching set with the band). There are four at BN that I really like but not much at Brian Gavin.

Both look promising from the numbers. BGD should be able to call it in and take idealscope image of the stone, BN will not be able to do so.

Hi TBR,

Both diamonds have potential, with the BN stone make sure that the grade making clouds aren't impacting performance, you would need to get someone from BN to check this or take the diamond to an independant appraiser during the return period to make sure. As stonecold says, BN will not provide images regrettably.

Also concerning the HCA scores, a lower score isn't better than a higher score, the aim is to score below 2 initially then evaluate from there with images such as Idealscope and so on.

The BG diamond isn't an inventory stone but from the virtual listing so Brian would have to call it in for you for evaluation which includes images being taken.

Thanks so much for the input everyone. I''m going to follow up further on both stones. On the BG stone, it''s a BG Select stone but I''m guessing that doesn''t necessarily mean they don''t have it in-house? Also, should I be concerned at all with the feathers?

I''m still not quite sure what to make of the difference in price (approximately $800) vs. the clarity difference (VS2 vs. SI1). If all else was equal, is the clarity jump worth the price difference?

I wish it was a simple apples to apples comparison =( I''ve done my general research but there''s so much to consider. By the way, I just want to mention how great this site is.

Should be nothing to worry about for the feather as it being a VS2 clarity grade and the order it is being listed, the grade setting inclusions will be the first listed, in this case the crystal.

The clarity grade and also the upgrade/buy back policy of the BGD stone and the extra service provided such as getting ASET/IS images are responsible for the price increase.

I heard back on the BN stone and was told it was not eyeclean. I haven''t heard back from BGD. In the meantime I changed my search slightly and went one level up on clarity to VS2 (so as to not have to deal with eyeclean issues) and one level down on color to J. With this criteria, the options were even more so than before. Is there that much difference between in going to J from I even with a higher clarity? Here are some options that I found:

Yes, most people can see color in a J, whereas less often people can see clarity differences between a (random) VS2 and a (random) SI1.

Of course, in very rare cases, a VS2 may not be eye-clean...

I/J depends on personal sensitivity and preference.
