Ok, so we are trying to visualize what our boys are going to wear/how they will look now that the BMs are taken care of, and not sure what will look best!

Fiance is wearing a kilt, the first square with the green/blue/red/gold tartan is his pattern. Our girls are wearing hunter green. The tartan is the plaid of the US Marine Corps.

The GM are wearing tuxes. I kind of think the idea of having their vests custom made in the USMC plaid of FI''s kilt would be cool, but question is, would it look stupid or overkill, or dumb since they wouldnt match the BMs exactly? They would have a black tie as picture, so all that would be plaid would be the vests. The BMs will not have anything with the tartan plaid on them, just hunter green.

There''s always the option to wear hunter green vests/ties as shown. My mom thinks they should wear all black as shown in the last picture, but Im not sure if them in all black would look ok with the girls in green.

But does the all green vest/tie look weird? They will have black tuxes on of course.

Or would a green vest/black tie look best.

What would you stylish ladies think would look best? Trying to get some objective opinions because my mind is clouded.

I really don''t like the plaid vests.. Why not have all the boys in Kilts? I was at a wedding where they did this and it looked very nice.

I think the hunter green vests and ties are nice. Or hunter green with black tie.

The black/vest tie would look fine too. That is what we are doing. Its simple and classic

I am also facing the kilt coordination dilemma sometime after "boy soon."

I personally think that the plaid vests may be overkill. We haven''t yet decided (I am avoiding real decision making until there is something real on my finger!

) if all the groomsmen will also be in kilts, or just BF and his best man. I am leaning towards making kilts optional for all GMs and having the other groomsmen wear black tuxes, vests and ties to coordinate with BF''s Prince Charlie jacket.

So....I would suggest the black vest and ties first. It could potentially be very difficult to truly match the hunter greens well. Have you considered a black with hunter green tone on tone type texture? (I just described that REALLY badly!) In some lights it would likely look black, but would pick up the green of the dresses in photos.

Sorry, if I''ve confused you even more!

hey girls! thanks for the opinions. I did want all of them in kilts, but when we saw the pricetag...eesh. So we decided to keep the GM in black tuxes. I think the plaid vests are unique but really when I thought about it I was like, well, maybe it would be too much.s

i havent researched vests too much but a black one with green tones may look good! im thinking I will have to take a swatch with me so i can see if the hunter greens will truly match. If I do go with the green vests I think I will lean toward a black tie. My mom suggested black with black, so at least if nothing else looks ok there is a classic standby!

Have you thought about having pocket squares or ties made for the GM in the plaid fabric? You could use those with either the green or black vests. If you wanted to bring the plaid into the girls emsemble you could wrap the flower stems in the plaid fabric instead of ribbon.....Just some ideas...

OOOOH! GREAT call on the pocket square idea! I love that!
I think my vote is now black tux/vest/tie with custom pocket square. (It could also be a gift to groomsmen.)

Good luck!

All black is boring IMO. At least let the vests be hunter green or something. Why can''t the groomsmen have hunter green bowties too? Need some color to match the bridesmaids. It''s a wedding, not a funeral.

One of my friends went through a similar dilemma. Her husband wore a kilt and the groomsmen had pocket squares to match the kilt. They wore black vests but did not have on ties, instead the top of the shirt had a black button. I''m not describing it really well but it looked great. The bridesmaids (in maroon dresses) had plaid ribbons wrapped around their bouquets.

I really like the ideas you have all come up with! I am going to see if the kilt maker can make pocket squares in the tartan and maybe some ribbon for the girls bouquets, since we are making our own it would be easy to assimilate.

:)

oooh....love the black vest/tie with plaid square look - very tasteful!! are the girls going to have a touch of plaid on their dress too? maybe a ribbon belt?

eta - nevermind, that prob won't look good with the dress style you chose (which is totally cute BTW!)

I loved everyone''s advice so I asked the kilt maker if he can make pocket squares and if he has ribbon in the plaid. He said YES! WOO! Now what do y''all think about this.

The girls are in the green dresses and we will wrap the stems of their bouquets with the plaid ribbon.

The kiltmaker said he could make plaid bow ties too to match with the pocket square. Hmmmm. I definitely want them to wear vests, and I have seen pics of vests with bow ties but I am not sure about the bow tie thing.

so now what do you think would look best?

A black tux with:

a black vest, plaid bow tie and plaid pocket square?
a black vest and black regular tie as shown above with just the pocket square being plaid?
or hunter green vest/tie as shown above with the plaid pocket square?

The BM/GM will be walking down the aisle together so I want them to coordinate some!

thanks for listening to my crazy ideas, I have NO sense of style so I have no clue!!!
