Need your help with PAINT color

I'm looking for a slate-blue color (not dark) for my bedroom. I find this color calming. (any great blue will do too)

Anyone have the names so I can try and buy samples? I need to buy paint this weekend...for our move

Annette, my husband used to use Benjamin Moore (which is the most popular with contractors) but he switched to Sherwin Williams years ago because he liked the coverage and the consistancy of the paint better, and I thought they had nicer colors to choose from, the color doesn''t change over time and it''s very washable.

Click on the color selector, and on the next screen, type in "blues". It will bring up their entire blue color palette.
I have a Sherwin Williams fandeck here in my desk, but paint is a really personal thing and what one person might like, another might not.

If you do go with Sherwin Williams, choose their Super Paint, not Duration (their new washable paint). Super Paint is fantastic, durable, very washable, easy to work with and gives very good coverage. Duration is thin like an onion peel when dry, and we both really dislike it. For walls- eggshell finish, which at SW is satin.

All the other paints in my house are Sherwin Willliams, but all the bedding in my master is from Pottery Barn so I needed an exact color. My painter originally tried to match the Buxton Blue at Sherwin Williams and it was not the same color so I had to go to Benjamin Moore buy the real deal and have him repaint everything. If you aren''t trying to get an exact match for your bedding then SW will be fine. I have fan decks for both companies. The color tool on the website is very fun and highly addictive.

Light blues can be tricky! I''ve found a couple of great light blues over the years, but neither one is what I''d call a slate blue.

I just pulled out my Sherwin Williams fan deck- how about SW6225 Sleepy Blue (it''s one paint chip page away from true grays, but is still definitely blue) OR SW6533 Mild Blue. This one is closer towards the purple family of blue, so might not be gray enough for you. SW6218 Tradewind is also pretty and closer to the gray family of colors as well.

Good luck- choosing paint colors is one of my favorite things to do. Let us know what you decide on how how it comes out.

We painted one of our bedrooms a color called "Yarmouth Blue" from BM''s historical line and we love it.

I used a color by Rodda called Denim Blue. I just happened to find it at a hardware store and went to Walmart to have them match it.

and here is a pic of the room. I went with a blue to add some color and calm. I wanted a gray-blue so it was not so country looking. My furniture is black, except this chair, and my bedding is black and white and I used red accents. It''s very relaxing to walk into.

I just looked at my fandeck and I love Sleepy Blue. So pretty! and perfect for a bedroom.

April, look at the color right below Tradewind, it''s called Rain. I''m doing my laundry room in that color. It matches my porcelain tile and will be a nice clean contrast to my new white cabinets. Rain reminds me of Ellen''s Aqua Leon ring .

I have a bathroom in Benjamin Moore ''Yarmouth Blue'' too and I love it. Some other favourites of mine:

Benjamin Moore "Wedgewood Gray" (HC-146)
Behr "Baltic"
Farrow & Ball "Light Blue"

Those are all lights. If you want something darker check out "Van Courtland Blue" (HC-146) or "Brewster Gray" (don''t know the code)

I''m going to paint my guest room soon and I may use either BM "Piedmont Gray" (CC-690) or "Raindance" (CC-680). Haven''t tried either one yet but they both look like beautiful gray/blues.

Hey! We were almost paint twins, Appletini! Buxton Blue was one of our finalists (it helps that it''s one of the pre-made color options in the little 2oz. tester containers), and it is such a lovely color.

Atroop, another color from the BM color wheel I''d recommend taking a look at is the slightly more slate-late Van Cortland Blue (HC145) and Wedgewood Gray (HC146). In the end, our silk drapes looked better with a color that had a little more grey/neutral tone to it than Buxton, and went with the Wedgewood Gray. It has the same tonal quality as the Restoration HW Eucalyptus/Silver Sage family and we found it a touch more calming/neutral. Atroop, though Wedgewood was not available in the tiny sample bottle, Van Cortland Blue is. VCB is darker (and seemed too dark for our needs), but WG is an accurate lighter version of it; lighter still but in the same color family is Woodlawn Blue (HC147) if what you crave is VERY light walls (often necessary for North-facing rooms).

I think we used Glidden for our bedroom... The color is Arctic Blue- It''s like a very icy/light blue color. Very soft and lovely! (It''s from Home Depot)

ok. here are the blues I was thinking.

We had our bedroom painted in "Silver Strand" (as shown in D&Ts swatches) in our old house and loved it. It was a very calming color.

Okay, I found the paint spec. It''s Sherwin Williams 6239 "Upward". It''s a blue with a teeny bit of gray. It''s the second from lightest color on the paint swatch, the darkest color being a deep navy, so that gives you an idea of the undertones of the color- it shouldn''t go lavendar or battleship gray unless the light is weird. I had this color on the sun porch in my last house and it was great there too.

I don''t know that I would call it that- it''s lighter than what I think of as wedgewood. I tried to scan the paint chip in for a reference point, but it scanned in all purply and gross.

It''s really a light blue color that has just the right balance between gray and purple tones, which I think can be hard to achieve at times.
