I got my paws on some rough, and was going to have it cut into an Asscher. However, since Danburite performs like a diamond, a friend suggested that I think about brilliant cuts instead. Any thoughts?

I don''t know. A round brilliant would be pretty, but if Chrono chimes in I bet she could help better than me.

I already have 2 coloured rbs. Since this is being custom-cut, I thought I''d try something different.

I like Chrono''s asscher.

So do I. But, my friend has me wondering if a brilliant cut will be a better use of the danburite''s diamond-like qualities.

Well you have a rb ering so why not asscher.

Is an asscher less sparkly than, say, a cushion?

No, I think they are very pretty. I saw one for the first time and loved it.

They are pretty. I love cushions, but I''m not sure if I want a yellow one.

what about a radiant or square cut round or flanders?

Can you post a picture of the rough? That might help a bit as to the shape. What is the size of the rough? The cutter will most like be able to make the best recommendation as to the final shape for you.

I don''t see why not an asscher. My pink spinel also has dispersive properties and under sunlight, it sparkles blue, purple, orange, gold, etc. I love it.

Let me get the cutter/dealer''s permission first. I don''t know what size the rough is, but he thinks it will yield a 4-8 ct Asscher.

I love your pink spinel too. Wish I had one.

May I ask who is the cutter?
Does he think the asscher cut is doable?
Will it be a square emerald cut (3 crown/3 pavilion) or a true octagonal royal asscher (3 crown/7 pavilion)?

It''s Jeff White. He does thinkg the asscher is doable. It had better be a royal asscher.

I'd trust his judgement. For something 4-8 carats, an asscher would be lovely. It'll look tacky as a round stone. Don't forget to post pics of the rough and its journey into a beautiful cut gemstone.

Will do.

Here''s the rough.
Disclaimer: The cutter has not seen it and cannot vouch for the accuracy of the pic.

Harriet,
The colour is so yummy.

One can easily mistake it for a yellow sapphire.

It''s really unusual for a Danburite. Are you interested?

Tiada duit lagi.

Sorry, my Malayu is very very limited.

No more money = I''m broke!

I''ve got money flowing out to pay for my various projects. My last paraiba purchase was quite pricey because these are very rare. Add to the fact that it was a specialty cut and with top colour = $$$ but I managed a very competitive deal because of some past misunderstanding that led to another stone I wanted to buy being sold. Not to mention that I also have Richard Homer cutting me a pair of amethysts

Thanks for the vocab lesson. You lucky girl -- you have so many things coming!

Once all these are done, I''m going on a temporary fast until the end of the year. My project for next year is to set my red spinels, Pinkie, Richard Homer''s amethysts and the Paraiba.

What projects do you have on your plate? What happened to the rhodolites?

How about a cut cornered square-- brilliant cut... something like a barion modified brilliant crossed with a radiant. Would look fabulous. My little wee danburite is cut that way and it really out performs both the oval and the modified rectangular cut.

How about a round portuguese brilliant? Love love love those..

My plate''s pretty full. My e-ring goes to Leon Mege next week. I also have a Heliodor, a few Rhodolites, and a Rose de France to set. I''m also looking for a pair of white opals, and a spinel or two. Phew!

Aren''t they lovely? But I already have 1, and would like to try something different.
