Nerves about clarity. Cavity?

I purchased a diamond on Saturday. It’s something that I have been looking for for a while. It wasn’t very expensive. It is perfect cut wise, but the clarity is S12. I’ve never had a stone below VS2. I can easily get past the clarity visually but I’m getting nervous about a particular cavity structurally. I reached out to the company that I purchased from and since they have not processed the order, they will allow me to cancel within the next hour. Advice? IMG_2183.png

Also, if anyone follows me on IG and is willing to message me and look over the video I would appreciate it

I hope you were able to get advice. I have SI1 and SI2 stones and I looked at the plots and both have cavities etc and they were set and reset fine.

Thank you. that makes me feel better. I wasn’t able to get much advice but I did speak to a friend in the business who calmed me down about it. He said the same thing; he has yet to see an issue when setting. I absolutely love the cut on the stone and they have a good return policy so I’m going for it! I think the clarity grade is mostly caused by the numerous small feathers.

I’m sorry I didn’t see this in time to answer. I think if the stone has a return policy, just check it out before getting cold feet.

In my experience, if you see the cut you want in an old cut, buy it and look at it. Inclusions have withstood decades in these stones and settings can protect most things you might feel nervous about.

I really looking forward to you seeing this antique diamond and hearing what you think about it!

Thank you! I’m very excited about the stone. I’ve been looking for something like it for quite some time. I’m glad I didn’t let it get away. I think I’m going to be pleasantly surprised by how well most of those feathers blend in. I’m sure it can be set in a way to protect the cavity though it might not even be necessary.

Most of my old diamonds are SI2 and I1 stones. Here is some information about inclusions and durability that I found on Pricescope that has generally made me unconcerned about most inclusions, especially in antiques.

Don't be concerned. I spent six years (yes, six) looking for a specific color and cut yellow diamond, when I found it, it had surface inclusions, which at first I was unsure of. Just get the diamond you want. As long as it isn't bore-drilled, what do you have to worry about.

The diamond didn’t pass quality control with the vendor. I’m disappointed but I know my perfect stone will eventually pop up.

Did they explain why? Curious.

They just told me that there was damage to the stone. I did notice something off in the 360 video that I couldn’t quite match to the GIA report.

Ah. So not to do with the clarity grade per se. Too bad!

Looks like I got played. Alex Park just posted my stone. The exact same one that I purchased.

Editing: I am considering purchasing it from Alex, even though his price is a lot more than what I paid, but I am talking with brilliance and they’re claiming they had it in hand and rejected it due to damage. Ugh

Wow, what a crazy situation. I am happy to report that the stone is mine! I bluntly asked Alex about the situation. Alex purchased it weeks ago. It came to him directly from India, so it was definitely never delivered to the lying *******s at brilliance.com. He also inspected the stone and said there is no damage and the weight still matches the weight on the Cert so there was no repaired damage.

Sorry to hear about the run around-but I am glad that you secured the stone-love it!

Thank you! It was a crazy weird situation. I’m not gonna lie it totally stings to pay a couple grand more but I couldn’t bear the thought of letting it get away. I am so excited about this stone! Now I’m focusing on trying to think up the perfect setting!

Oh, be still my heart… A MOVAL!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I am so excited for you!!! Please post lots of pics when you get it!

What are you thinking setting wise? Modern/antique inspired? I have an entire folder with saved moval settings I can look through and see if I have anything you might like! Congrats!

Oh what a bummer of a situation. Which makes me think that brilliance.com never even had the stone so despite it being cheaper it was never really available. They probably made an error and some excuse to get out of the sale. I'm glad you're getting it from Alex and can't wait to see what you do with it.

I will! I’m soooo excited. I have been searching for the stone for a very long time and the strong blue fluorescence is just the cherry on top. I have a Pinterest board with tons of ideas. I was originally thinking something more antique inspired. I’m a bit all over the place right now though. It sucks because I would totally have Alex do the setting If I knew what I wanted. part of me wants to put it in a halo of single cut diamonds but part of me also just wants to put it in a chunky bezel.

I agree. I definitely don’t think they ever had it in hand, especially since Alex purchased it direct from India two days after I did. there wouldn’t even be enough time for it to have shipped to brilliance and back. Also, Alex paid more for it than the price I initially did so we kind of suspect that Alex‘s buyer made the vendor a higher offer so they canceled my sale. Regardless of the situation, the people at brilliance blatantly lied to me.

This makes sense.
I had them tell me a story years ago, proceed with caution.

I’ve placed 4 orders from them and have only actually received 1. The others were all just the normal it sold before they got to it situation, but this tale is just ridiculous. I’m pretty disgusted by their lying.

On a positive note here are some of my ideas. I really hope I can make a decision and set this one quickly. I have three other loose diamonds just sitting in my safe because I am so indecisive on how to set them. I really annoy myself. I’m pretty set on platinum, but I’ll see how I feel when I get the stone. I wasn’t initially planning on a bezel, but I do feel like it’ll make me feel more secure about the feathers and cavity. If I do a halo, I think I’m gonna do single cut diamonds.IMG_2692.jpeg

Please have Alex set it in a simple file WQ bezel so you can wear it. You have so many loose diamonds already!

That’s a great turnaround in the story. Sad that you were unable to get it from the seller you paid (so much less!). But on the bright side, if Alex bought it he must’ve seen something amazing about it which should allay your concerns. Can’t wait to see it set!

The top image - OMG!

I’m trying to make a decision about setting so I can get a quote from Alex. If I can’t make a decision I’ll send it to Caysie and have her custom design someone. The top setting that I posted is my favorite but I feel I want to protect the stone more. Here’s another inspo pic but it almost feels to clunky IMG_2694.jpeg
