thanks for all the well-wishes
and especially for all the help and advice that is available on these boards...
Seriously, we went to like 5-6 different ring shops and I was actually SUPER happy that
I went with Mark cause the jewelry stores were all charging pretty outrageously inflated
prices for stones that didn't hold a candle to the one that I got through Mark.
If you're on the fence about a cushion that you're looking at with him, the best advice
I can give is to *trust his eyes*. It seems like he and the guys at Good Old Gold really
know their cushions and will steer you right.
The proposal pretty much went without a hitch. Prior to popping the question, I made a quick (secret)
call to her dad to ask for his permission, which he gave quite quickly (probably cause he was in the
middle of a game).
She was actually kinda cute - she was looking at rings online and getting a little stressed out
about the prices and what we could afford. She even told some of the jewelers we visited that she
was ok with something smaller if the quality was still good and if it was within our price range.
I could almost see her hopes and dreams flying out the window.
"What do you think about this one?" she asked me, pointing to a ring on a website.
"That one's nice, but it has the double prongs like the Harry Winston one" I said.
(Yes, we went to a Harry Winston store, which probably didn't help her anxiety)
Then pulling out the custom ring box I had made, I said, "what do you think about
this one instead?" This was followed by a look of disbelief and several "is this real?!?!"
and OMGs... I think there was at least one episode of her slapping herself (lightly) to
make sure she wasn't dreaming. After she said yes, this was followed by a lot of jumping around and
calling her family to let them know.
