Hello! I have good news to report: Gary at ERD found me a beautiful cushion!!!! Now, it doesn''t look like Scarlet16''s but it is still beautiful! I can''t stop looking at pictures of it, and even my boyfriend commented on how pretty it is (strange for him). I know this may be a silly question, but will the black cross always be black in all angles?

Please let me know what you think. Thank you!!

Girdle is thin to slightly thick
Its a very pretty cushion.

I know! I think I realized that nothing is going to be PERFECT. Good cushions are hard to come by these days, and I discovered that the cutter of Scarlet''s diamond doesn''t cut them anymore. So, I either wait forever or sacrafice something. I know that maltese crosses are typical of cushions, and more people want them, so to find one that doesn''t have it is a rarity.
Kristalulu,

I gotta tell you what you like about Scarlet''s stone is the PICTURE! It is a really great picture illuminating just the right virtual facets. You are looking for rectangular stones with a slightly shallow crown. By choosing this depth in your selection your are hoping that the virtual facets sitting on top of the 2,4,6,8 positions will be broken up in a way that pleases your eye.

You can''t confirm this just by the depth and even more so you can''t tell this from photographs, depending on the source of the light you may or might not see this from one photograph to the next for the same diamond that is why I asked for an ASET.

Photographs are good for one thing, identifying the facet structure not for defining light performance.

I dont care for the dark cross in the center. does it bother you?

Okay, here is the ASET image. This one doesn''t look like others that I have seen - where are the blues and greens? Could someone please explain it to me? Thank you!!

Its a poor image, out of focus and the lighting is not setup as well as it could be. Sorry tough to tell much from that image.

Is this one of ERD''s new images Krista?

Yes, this is one of their new images.

I guess they are still learning how to take an ASET image. I got to give them props for taking this step though.

Ditto. And also props for taking the leap and sending it to a PS customer knowing that it will go up on PS and we will rile them about it!

I think we are being nice today :) and recognize the effort!

My ASET images look like crap but then again I am not in the jewelry business.

I am sorta wondering if that is a messed up idealscope image versus an aset.

Hello, just want to let you all know that we did not purchase this stone. The search continues...

What decided it for you?

Gary actually got this stone for me originally, last Thursday. I saw it in person, and was choosing between it and a 1.24 D VS1, and ultimately went with the latter. This was a good looking stone though. It definitely had a strong Maltese cross, and was just a darker stone overall than what I went with

Yes, this is one of their new images.
Well they still have to work on setting up the ASET camera properly.
The white balance is pretty far off, red needs to be turned down and blue up.
The gamma is too high, exposure is too bright as well needs to be taken down a little.

The goal of a proper ASET image is to accurately reflect the characteristics of the diamond, that image above hides the true obstruction(darkness) in the stone.

What ultimately decided it for me was the strong maltese cross. Even though it met all my other criteria, I really need to wait for the perfect stone. I HATE WAITING!!

Charmypoo - where can you see the chunky cushions ERD has available on the website?

Take a look at this thread very different looks from an August Vintage Cushion, this should help you understand how little you can really tell from a photograph about light return.
This stone has excellent light performance and gathers overhead light under the table very efficiently but you might not know this by judging from some of the photographs.

I know its hard waiting Krista but it will be worth it.

ERD don't provide images of their stones as standard, you have to request that info in each case.

ECF,

With your permission I''d like to use some of those shots in an upcoming article I am writing, they are really good for showing facet structure and also how lighting can really change the appearance of the same stone in a photograph.

Hello!! I''m back with a new cushion that a vender just sent me pictures of. Okay, now I haven''t seen it in person, but will tomorrow and hopefully will have more pictures to share. This one looks VERY promising... The vender is unable to offer other analysis photos such as ASET and idealscope, so I''m going to have to trust my eyes tomorrow. It just came out of the GIA and the vender said the cutter just recut it from a larger stone for better light performance so I''m pretty excited!

On with the stats:
1.52ct. 8 main cushion brilliant
H
VS2
7.73 x 6.48 x 4.19 (ratio 1.19)
Very good polish
Good symmetry
Table: 57%
Depth: 64.7%
Strong blue fluor (YEAH!!)
Small culet
Girdle: thin to thick

Let me know what you think from these initial photos!

Let''s try that again.

Remove the "#" from the names of the images, PS does not like symbols.

Okay lets try this one, but it may be a little blurry because I enlarged it.

And here is the not-enlarged photo since that one is mammoth.

I''m no expert but the stone looks very pretty. I love chunky cushion.
