Hello all,
We just purchased my engagement ring from Blue Nile and I'm a little concerned with the diamond.
Sometimes it looks beautiful.. icy, sparkly, firey and sometimes it looks really dull and whiteish. This is the first diamond I have ever owned so I was wondering if this is normal. I've attached some photos.

Here are the stats:
.90 carat Round
F color
SI1 clarity
Excellent Cut
Excellent Sym/Polish
Medium Blue Fluorescence
58% table
60.2% depth
.9 rating on HCA

The lighting and color in the environment will make a diamond look different in different settings. Diamonds generally do not sparkle in fluorescent lighting, for example. But they look terrific in big stores such as WalMart or Home Depot due to the type lighting used there. If the walls are yellow or brown, the stone can look a little more tinted. Natural daylight (not in the sun) outside is the best place to see the true color of the stone, in my opinion.

Your ring is beautiful! Congrats!

(Be sure to clean it every few days by soaking in jewelry cleaner or in hot water with a little Dawn in it. You can very gently brush the stone with a super soft baby toothbrush.

Thank you! How long should I soak it?

I generally give mine a little scrub and rinse after I wear them and keep a soft toothbrush set aside just for that.

I think your stone looks beautiful and the image is perfect! Congrats on your lovely stone and setting!

If you have an extra set of clear x-mas lights, look at your ring with them and see the fireworks.

 I thought that I was the only one that did this. Wish I could carry a strand around in my purse!

Congratulations! Your ring is gorgeous. Don't worry, diamonds can look dark or dull in certain lighting conditions, even in ideal cut colorless stones.

You can soak it while you're taking a shower or doing your hair. Buy a baby toothbrush specifically for your ring! It'll be the best $2 you've spent!

Don't worry at all - your ring is fab!!!

I love all the things about it, including the fluoresence. Just enjoy it.
