Hello everyone, Im new here...

anyway I purchased a Neil lane from Kay
http://www.kay.com/en/kaystore/enga...ld-99064360799--1/100006/100006.100007.100010

If you look at the specs is says the center stone color is rated H-I and the clarity is rated SI2-I1.

After I got the ring I noticed a large carbon spot in the center, so I had them order another and that too has an easily visible carbon spot that can be seen with the naked eye.

Here is a pic of the ring i purchased the 2nd time with a screwdriver pointing to the spot.

For a ring that cost over $5000 I think it should be better quality, but since I am new to this I dont have much to compare- I have since been spending hours researching. I found this site and believe you all can help.

What are you opinions?
Does my pic look like I1 or worse?
How normal is this, do you think im better off getting the same ring form the diamond district in the city?
or is there a better diamond store by me? I live in Long Island.

Thanks in advance everyone!

If you can see it, yes that'd be considered an I1...What's their return policy? How long ago did you buy it? We could definitely find you a ring within your budget and better quality!

If you can return the ring and get your money back, do so right away. That is an I1 type of an inclusion, in my opinion. I1 inclusions are typically visible to the naked eye. Yes, there are several jewelers in the New York City area that are often recommended on this forum Each of them can show you diamonds and settings that are a much better value:
Good Old Gold
ID Jewelry
Diamonds by Lauren
ERD
James Allen

You can find their contact information here: https://www.pricescope.com/featured-sponsors

if its returnable, yes you can find a better quality stone.

Without knowing your exact budget i know there are some option here for our online vendors.

one option you might consider is Good old Gold, i think thats actually on long island, if i am not mistaken.

without them trying trying to find you one, just based of what they have on there sight i would say these

http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10163/

but i bet if you go in there he would be worlds of help

wow Thank you everyone for such quick responses!

Return policy is 60 days. I 1st ordered it Nov 27th, 2012 so i have about 2 weeks left...

Good Old Gold is 5 mins away!

Thanks again for all the help!

as far as budget...this ring was $5200

She really loves the halo design and It was a 3/4 karat princess center.

Any ideas what I should be looking for? VS2 for clarity and GHI for color?
I really dont want anything visible to the naked eye?

I definitely want one that is clear and sparkles in any light, so I guess go for a better color?

Again, thanks for all your help!

A diamond of comparable specs would be around $2000 with the online PS vendors - I am guessing the center stone is between 0.8 to 0.9ct. A comparable setting can be had for under $2000. So overall you probably paid a little bit more than you would through a PS vendor.

Also, if you are set on Kay's .. why not try ebay?

Same as your ring but bigger ...

I'm glad to hear you are still within your return period. I think you will find your $5200 gets you a much nicer diamond at GOG. It's cut quality that makes a diamond sparkle. Color and clarity are personal preferences, but princess shapes do tend to show yellow easier than other shapes, but G-H-I should be okay. Clarity may impact sparkle; it depends on the types of inclusions. Good Old Gold will show you several stones in your budget and you can compare them. They'll be able to help you with a halo setting, too.

ETA: I just saw the link that Nielseel posted from Good Old Gold. That looks like a very nice princess. You might want to give Good Old Gold a call and ask them to put that one on hold, and ask them if you can compare that stone to a G and an H.

Never even knew GOG was right next to where I live, I eat at Moes all the time and never realized. I guess being uneducated I automatically went to the mall.

We are open to any jeweler not just Kay, probably not Kay at all now.

Has anyone had experience with GOG that has posted here?

(hope they can get a size 4.5 for her tiny hands)
