Pad arrived this morning. I'm pleased with the color, louped and it's very clean. I really apologize in advance for the bad pics, but I'm almost pulling my hair out trying to get decent shots of the color of this stone and it's just not happening for me. Feel free to offer up your opinions. Stone is off to the lab tomorrow morning.

Stats: Ceylon Padparadscha sapphire, 1.27 carats, untreated/unheated, VVS2 clarity, origin Sri Lanka

Nashville,
Is the stone certified/verified that it is untreated, with proof of origin and that it falls into the narrow classification of being a padparadscha? Please refresh my memory who the vendor is.

Chrono: I posted a thread about this before (I'll dig up the link, I should have posted it). Pad has paperwork from an "independent" overseas lab, which is why I'm sending it to AGL. I want to wait to name the vendor until I get lab results in case they lurk here.

I see your picture. :wavey: Which lab are you sending it to?

AGL, you all were very helpful in guiding me in the right direction as to who to send it to!

another... there is darkness in some of these, it's the stone reflecting my camera lens.

The colour is a very pretty pink, coupled with it being a super clean stone worries me that it might be a synthetic sapphire. AGL should be able to settle this once and for all. Good for you! :appl:

I hope it does turn out to be legitimate, I really love the color...

But yes, definitely need the cert on it. Do you think the color (if untreated/unheated) would qualify as padparadscha based on the pics?

I like the colour, but dare not hazard a guess as to whether it is a "padparadscha."

Will you be coming to New York?

Luckily there's a 7 day return period after cert comes back, so I'm shipping it to AGL tomorrow. Mildly optimistic, hope that it comes back with the coveted "pad" color, but would be happy even if it's not deemed a padparadscha but natural. The main thing I want is an all natural stone. I like the color enough to keep it if it's unheated/non BE diffused.

Lovely pad! I'm also considering a padparadscha for my e-ring. Fingers crossed that it comes back as unheated or heat only!

just from what I can see it does seem to have , in my opinion, pad-like color..of course we all know how varied this is..what richard Wise calls a pad i don't prefer...he knows a lot more than I do and has seen man many more so technically would be correct but i am talking opinion wise as with padparadscha it seems to me opinion is better since nothing ever seems set in stone(no pun intended) with what a pad should look like..so, it looks pad like to me ..at least closer than many I have seen posted on here before..but hard to tell from pics

Whatever it is, it is a mighty pretty colour. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

It is a bright and pretty stone! But it seems a tad lighter than the usual "pad" I've seen. Since that's not your main concern I guess it should not be an issue then. Hopefully it comes back with double bonus:) "Natural" & "Padparadscha" Do keep us update soon!

Thanks for the replies so far! I was going for a lighter shade. Lots of the pads I looked through on my search were either hot pink or bright orange, and I really wanted something that whispered. The stone is a chameleon. It looks different every time I look at it. Sometimes it sparkles, sometimes it shimmers, sometimes it glows. Insanely hard to photograph ;(

Going through monitor shock too, 1.27ct isn't *quite* as big as I thought it'd be IRL!

pads are supposed to be light to medium sat., correct?

Pretty, I hope it turns out to be untreated. :))

I've probably read about 150,000 definitions of what a "true padparadscha" color is, and I still have no one defining answer.

This stone seems to have a light orange pink mix. I'd say the close-up is probably the closest to it's color that I could find, but it's even a little lighter than that IRL.

There have been more than enough discussions on PS as to what is a padparadscha and what isn’t, so I myself would not dare guess it yours will qualify as one. But if AGL states their opinion that it isn’t a padparascha sapphire and you still like the colour, I think you should be able to negotiate a lower pricing with the vendor if that stone was sold to you as one with the padparadscha premium.

I really truly wish Mr. Zeolite would post more often. He has been collecting for years, and I highly regard his opinion. He stated that no one should buy a padparadscha without a padparadscha expert at their side because the marketing term is used so loosely on stones that are not so great. I'm not saying that about yours, just letting you know what he said on this board at one time if my memory serves me correctly. I hope you paid a fair price on it, and I hope it comes back from the AGL as natural with Ceylon origin. Good luck!

I know he needs to hang around more..ole Zeo is probably off roaming some corner of the world :sun:

Hi Nashville-

I'm interested to see how your pad shopping experience turns out! I, too, was looking for a pad for my engagement ring and just ran into more questions and uncertainties than answers. I then decided that I would go the diamond route for "the ring" and have picked a beautiful cut which I am very excited about. Hopefully you will be able to share some thoughts and some good news when that certification comes back in the future since I will certainly be looking someday, just not right now.

By the way, from what I can see in the pics, the stone is very beautiful! How would you like to have it set?

Nashville- It will be great if it is certified as a Padparascha. This one appears to have the delicate warm colour that I would prefer in a Padparadscha.
We wait for the results!
