I had the arthritic shank on my ring removed and a new, regular shank created. It is more of a narrow shank but I apologize because I don''t know the exac mm specs. I know it is two-point-something and tapers smaller toward the underside. I love the soft knife-edge it now has.

This one shows how low my stones are set (I know I am always talking about it but here is a good photo to show what I''m talking about). The center is 3.29 ct -- a 9.59 mm, so you can see that it is possible to have a larger stone sit "low". (Sorry for the fuzzy corner of a pillow I mounted the ring on for the photo!)

Another angle, this time on the finger...

And the other side of the finger...

More straight on view...

And one showing the full "finger coverage"! You can see it has more of a "band" look, rather than e-ring look, which is what I was striving for.

Thank you, Bling Diva!
I was lucky to fall upon a local jeweler who is a master craftsman and laser welder. Because he does all his own work, all jobs take two weeks. However, I had to wait longer because he was going on vacation right when I brought my ring to him, so that added extra wait time. When it was ready for pick-up, I was leaving that same afternoon for my vacation, only to determine while I was sitting on the airplane that it was too tight and needed to be more "sculpted" and narrow -- so I had to wait a week until I got back from vacation to give it to him to work on again. Then his usual two week wait after that! SO, finally after FIVE weeks of not having my "baby", I am very pleased.

I have always loved your ring HL.
Love these pics

Headlight, your ring is gorgeous and I''m so glad you like the new shank! I''ve gone back to your photos time and again because I love the trillions with the round. Such a beautiful ring!

ooooh very nice! the three stone, tapered shank is what I originally wanted on my ering... alas the style only came for smaller ctw stones, so I think mine is just a stock setting... but one can hope !! your new shank just reminded me how lovely it looks!!!

I bet you can guess how much I love the new shank on your beautiful ring...

It really looks fabulous. I used to think larger stones needed bulkier shanks...but I''ve reformed!

Beautiful new shank for your beautiful ring! I love low set diamonds, much more practical for women these days.

What a gorgeous ring!

Thanks, everyone! Gosh, it is fun to "re-post" your ring even though it isn''t new!!!
Widget, after seeing your new GORGEOUS ring -- drooooooooooooooool -- I was inspired to bring out the camera and make an attempt. I have never been a big fan of "heavier" rings and when I had my ring in its original form I knew I was never thrilled with it -- I was always checking out rings in jeweler''s windows to see how wide the shanks were (I''m sure people thought I was scoping out the joint!). Since I was a little girl I have always wanted the BIG diamond on the teeny, tiny shank!!! Also, I love the soft knife-edge look. I ordered the Tiffany replica band from Superbcert/Excel the other day because I think it would look good with my ring''s shank. I am usually the one on this forum that always says to wear three-stone rings with no band, but I had to make this a size 5 to get over my knuckle with ease as to not irriate and cause further enlargement yet my ring size is really about a 4-1/2 (4-1/4 on a cold, dry day) so I figured that if there were days when it was too loose on the finger, I could pair it with a band to take up some of the space. Even though I''ve never been a fan of three stone rings with a band, I figured that at the very least, if the bands have similar looking shanks, it looks more like it should go together -- I don''t know, we''ll see when the ring arrives -- I''ll post pics. However, I''ve had my ring back since Friday night and it has actually fit really well which is so strange! For some reason it isn''t spinning on me even though I can clearly see the extra space between my finger and the ring!!! Also, with it being a size 5, that is the perfect size for my ring finger on the right hand, so if need be I can wear it on that hand which initially bothered me when I first began having the knuckle proglem a few years back but I guess since I got engaged 17 years ago, nobody cares anymore!!! Half the married people I know don''t even wear a ring. I also have those little plastic tube things from Comfees that I actually cut into fourths and I can put one of those onto the underside and it stays in place without being obvious but I haven''t even needed it so I''m thrilled about that.

Headlight, I love it! It''s amazing what one small -- but vital -- change can do to a treasured piece of jewelry! I am very eager to see pics of your madeover ring with that Tiffany replica band. I''ve been lusting after one myself (even though like you, I also prefer wearing my 3-stone e-ring ring alone!).

Yay for pinched shanks!!!

Me too....LOVE that pinched look on the shank. Beautiful!!!

Can you tell me what a arthrictic shank is.
I am looking for a setting for a 5 ct pear that sits a little high.

Love your ring

That looks gorgeous. The shank looks so delicate. I just love the round/trillion combination.

Sorry for just replying now -- for some reason I''m not getting emailed the replies to this thread.

I will definitely post pics for you. Hopefully I''ll receive it from Excel soon. I know they already charged my credit card.
Your ring is what inspired me to try their Tiffany replica band!
Did you end up returning the one from eweddingrings.com?
That one has a "hard" knife edge, whereas it appears as though the Excel/Superbcert one is more of a "soft" knife edge (or so we hope).
It was about double the price of the one from eweddingrings but if it "works" with the ring it is worth it.
If it wasn''t for the fact that when it is cold out and my finger size totally shrinks (but my knuckle not so much) I wouldn''t need to consider a band, but some many three-stone ladies here on PS have begun to change my opinion in regards to wearing it with a band!

Lookinggood35,
An arthritic shank is a ring that actually has a mechanism so that it can open and close; thus, you don''t need to put the ring on over your knuckle. Examples of these can be see at sights such as www.lockshank.com and www.superfitonline.com
So, this has nothing to do with any particular type of setting.

With a stone as large as 5 carats, it is already going to sit pretty high just by virtue of its dimensions -- you might not want something that is going to make it sit even higher because it could get banged up easily, not be very practical, and also would probably spin because of the unbalanced element of it being so top heavy.

I would definitely love to see it, though, because I am consider a large pear for my next upgrade.

Thanks, everyone, for all the nice compliments!!!

Wow, that is soooo gorgeous!! i wanna see more pictures. bigger pictures!
