Thought I would share my first project.

Stone:
tiny .61ct/ 5.5mm Burmese spinel.
The baby pink color may be less than ideal, but I think it's cute and am pretty happy with how it turned out. Sparkly in person!

Setting:
A cheapie from LOGR and, while not perfect, it actually seems pretty sturdy and substantial and the diamonds look much nicer than they do in the pics. I paid the BIN price rather than at auction; not sure if that made the difference? Anyway, pleasantly surprised!

Very pretty-- and congrats on setting something-- I still haven't succeeded in doing that!

Beautiful!

Gorgeous!!

Who set the stone in the setting for you?

Thanks! Lol, I know what you mean. I LOVE searching for gems, but somehow don't really get around to setting them. I'm not sure if it's because I enjoy the hunt and would rather put my $$ into gems, or because there's something really appealing about the limitless possibilities in an unset gem.

Or maybe I'm just lazy.

txgreeneyes - It was a local jeweler (whom I WON'T be using again, as he was really unpleasant!).

Nice!! :appl: :appl: Glad to hear you're happy with the setting. I have a few stones that size, perhaps I should consider LOGR for at least one of them. I've heard such mixed reviews, I've been hesitant. Sorry to hear the setter was unpleasant, though! Hopefully there is someone else nearby who can look after your next project (do you have one in mind yet?).

I adore the color of your spinel and the setting is very pretty. Very nice indeed!

Spinels are great stones, aren't they? You get so much from them...color, brilliance, durability...and my favorite..the dispersion/fire. Just love them. Great stone to have set in a nice ring. Congrats!

Pretty!

The only ideal stone that matters is one that appeals to the owners eye.

What ring size are you? That stone looks huge on your finger!

Very pretty! What a beautiful stone, such a lovely color, and looks very lively - and I really like the setting, the profile is so nice. It looks quite substantial on your finger too!

What a great first project! More pics please!

Hello fellow newbie! :wavey:

That doesn't look tiny at all. The color is very pretty and the ring looks lovely on your hand.
How long did shipping take on the LOGR setting?

Horray for your first project! I have to say that I love the combo!!!

Lovely! Setting & spinel are a wonderful combination. You must have nice small hands -- it looks plenty big on you!

5.5 mm in a halo is perfect on your finger. You must be one of the lucky ones to have a size 2 or thereabouts finger. Overall, I think you did extremely well for a first project. The colour and cutting look good and the setting doesn't look flimsy. You've set the bar high for future projects.

Congratulations! That first project is a big hump to get over.

Congratulations on a very pretty first project! I bet it won't be your last :naughty:

The underside of the setting looks pretty, too. Very nice first project and don't you love the sparkle!

Not bad at all for a first project! It's really pretty :)

Bling: I wish my first project had looked like that! I love blush pink and think your ring is lovely. Good job!

Thanks, all!

NKOTB - Do give LOGR a try. They accept returns to a US address, which gave them an edge over most other Chinese sellers in my mind. And yeah, it's tougher than I thought to find a jeweler worth trusting. I DO indeed have a next project in mind -- Have a couple of things going with DanielM.... :naughty:

royalstarrynight - I'm a size 4.5. I've noticed that all my rings tend to look larger in pics.... Not that I'm complaining, lol.

Freke - Thanks! I don't have any more pics, just these awful evening ones. Will have to try this weekend. If the sun ever decides to come out again, that is. It's been depressingly grey all week. :blackeye:

MrsBlue - It look a couple of weeks, but this was over the Christmas holidays. Not sure if that's standard?

Sarahbear - Aw, thank you! You have a ton of rings I admire.... I often go back to look at pics of yours halos and others' rings for inspiration. :)

Really pretty and it looks great on your hand.
