"I dunno... Anyway does eye clean really mean you can't see it from the top but only from the side"

Yes Spidey, don't worry - diamonds are clarity graded face up and eyeclean doesn't consider the sides of the diamond!!! Eyeclean doesn't even mean necessarily that you can't see any inclusions from the top when looking g for them or at close range- it is often said to be as a working definition as " No inclusions visible in normal light at arms length viewed by a person with 2020 vision." You are fine Spidey!

As to the proposal, how about next weekend or October 1st?

The diamond is whiter than it is shown here because it is reflecting my table''s colour and my table is oak coloured...

I am a poor photographer that take pics that do not do justice to the ring I am holding right now!

It has been a real pleasure!

Best of luck with the proposal then we need HANDSHOTS!!!!

Spidey, you''re welcome. It was truly a pleasure!

Alright, I have just read a couple of threads whereby the jeweler made a mistake.

While I trust Jim, now I am getting slightly paranoid. I am an amateur so I try to do an "appraisal" by myself. I found the "signatory" feather in the diamond (reason for why it was SI1). Now do I have to get it independently appraised? Especially since it was not laser inscribed?

Or should I just go with the original gut feel that it "should be alright"?

Spidey, I really wouldn't worry about it. Jim Schultz is in my opinion a great and trustworthy vendor and I can recommend him with every confidence. It is so rare that the wrong diamond is sent out that although it is something that can happen, it is very unusual. My all means get an independant appraisal if it makes you feel better. It seems as if the diamond matches the cert just fine and I honestly don't think you need to worry, but if this is going to bug you over time, get the appraisal for peace of mind. I think you are fine but it is what you think that matters. I think the pros here would tell you the same that switching or sending out the wrong diamond is rare, plus we don't often hear of it here, if that makes you feel a bit better

I am sure the diamond you have is the one you purchased, but get it checked if it helps.

You didn''t mention insurance. One of the reasons many people do an appraisal is for insurance purposes.

If you''ll insure, you may have two options:

Use the receipt from Jim
Use an appraisal to set the basis for insurance.
Especially in the latter case, Jim''s appraisals are frequently high (mine was, as was another recently reported here). If you''d want to reduce your premium, and use an appraisal other than the one Jim gives you (a more detailed appraisal then also protects you with respect to getting, should you need a replacement some day, another high quality diamond in its place), this is another reason to get an appraisal.
I''m not sure where your comment about the inscription, or lack there of, comes in. If you really want one, some appraisers cane help you get one, though if your ring is now set, more issues would get involved, including the need to unset the diamond and reset it.

Not sure if any of this is helpful.

Congratulations btw...

Thanks peeps!

I haven''t thought of insuring the ring yet. Probably when she says yes then I might consider insuring it.

But now I think I would want to "confirm" I got the right diamond. It certainly has the same IS image when I used my IS to compare. I guess Jim is very trustworthy but I am just worried somewhere down the line someone might bungle up (cross my fingers). Think my paranoia is getting the best of me since there are a couple of threads complaining of jewelers making mistakes...

As for insuring it, Regular Guy mentions that Jim appaisals are frequently high. What does that mean? Is he "lenient" and we can expect the independent appraisal to give a "worse" appraisal?

Spidey,

Did you get an appraisal with your purchase? How was it valued, relative to what you paid? Facts always help clarify everything!

Nope, I did not get an appraisal to value the diamond. I felt a connection to this diamond (despite not seeing it in person) and think this is THE ONE. Now I just want to be sure I got THE ONE that I had chosen.

It MOST likely is, and like I said, I am probably just being paranoid. But I just wanna hear you guys if you have any other bright ideas...

Spidey you found the feather in the diamond which matches the cert? That would help me feel more secure, but you could always ask Jim as to what procedure they go through at JA to make sure the right diamonds go to those who have paid for them. I am sure Jim wouldn't mind as he would know that sometimes people must feel this way, and this might set your mind at rest too. Or when you are on shore, you could get a part verification appraisal without unmounting the diamond to make sure the diamond and the cert check out.

Also it is so rare we get threads about folk getting the wrong diamonds too, so don't let that worry you too much.

I guess it will be fine! I just drop Jim an email (hope he don't find me a nuisance!).

Anyway some hand pics (my ugly fingers, not hers, LOL):

Spidey thanks so much for the pics - I am honoured to have been able to help you find such a stunning diamond! Nothing wrong with your paws - I did ask for handshots

I hope Miss Ellen pops in to see these new pics soon!

I am sure Jim won''t find you a nuisance and he would hate to think of you being worried, he would far rather be able to set your mind at rest. I have been here for a while now on PS and everything I have heard about Jim has been positive! So send him that email and give him the chance to reassure you - I know it will help you.

36.gif
More pics, thanks!!

Spidey, I sure don''t want to tell you what to do, but if I were you, I''d get that beauty insured now. If you lose it, or someone steals it, you''re just out, all that money. I would hate to see that happen, just a thought.

As for identifying it, you''ve got a great identifying mark, your feather. If everything seems to match, I wouldn''t worry. But as said before, if it''s going to bug you, just have someone take a look!

Ditto all Miss Ellen said and double ditto the insurance. That is quite a rock you have their Spidey, don''t wait on the insurance.

I''m glad you got such a GORGEOUS ring! It really is STUNNING.

If you have any concerns, i''m sure Jim will put you at ease. I got my stone almost a year ago and just recently I emailed him with a concern and he was GREAT about getting back to me and educating me even further.

Thanks people! Jim did reply to me. And yes, he said he is "100% sure I got the right diamond" and that coming from Jim personally, I am almost at ease...
Such a cool guy!

From the pics, as well as in person, it is VERY difficult to see the feather! I had trouble finding it! It certainly is eye-clean. I had to keep looking at this ring whenever I came back from work! It will be on her finger very soon (I hope)!

Probably some more hand shots on the ACTUAL OWNER''s hand...

Yay for Jim!
