Hello everyone, and thanks for looking/helping.

Have been in the market for a little while now. Started in NYC and then to BlueNile. Eventually was referred by a close friend to a local jeweler. Hesitant at first as I figured I would pay more, but thought I'd check it out at least. Anyways, the jeweler is quite nice and patient and explains well so am comfortable with him. Here is what I'm getting, but part of me tells me the price is too high.

2.5 carat Round Stone
SI2 - a very good SI2, very little to naked eye, seen mainly from side which we are okay with.
H color, VG polish, excellent cut, no fluoro.
GIA cert.

Initially asked 27k, now at 26,200.

The setting is a halo setting, platinum ring. Ring weight ~7-8 grams. Will have 20-22 0.7 carat stones, so total weight on the setting will be ~1.5 carats.

Total price is 29,200.

What do you think? Good, decent, or rip off?

Thanks again!

Sorry, can't really say anything very meaningful without more information. My advice would be to get an ideal cut online and compare them side by side. You might save some money that way.

HCA as follows:

Factor Grade
Light Return Very Good
Fire Good
Scintillation Good
Spread
or diameter for weight Very Good
Total Visual Performance 4.1 - Good - Only if price is your main criterion

Here is a link for search results for only excellent cut within your specs from 2.25 to 2.75 carat. You can see how much difference the cut quality makes in the price.

Are you set on the carat weight or would you go smaller for a better cut?
