Newbie question: Lazare or Tiffany & Co..?

hi peeps..im looking for a proposal ring for my girlfriend and stumbled onto this forum. im new here and hope some of u can share some inputs with me. This whole process is abit nerve wrecking as its the 1st time im buying a diamond ring and i hope she will like it. anyway, i''ve looked around, did some research and finally gotten down to this 2 rings. the specs are below..

Lazare kaplan
.46carat/ G colour / vs1
-its a 6 prongs round diamond with 5 loose stones embedded on each side totalling .2carat

Tiffany&Co Novo
.42carat/ G colour / vs1
-its a 4 prongs square diamond with 8 loose stones embedded on each side totalling .12carat

Both are ideal cut diamonds. im having a hard time deciding between this 2 rings as both are reputable names and quite comparable. but the thing is the tiffany ring cost almost $2000 more than the Lazare diamond. are there any factors i need to know before deciding on which one to get? Ultimately,my gf will love tiffany''s but the Lazare seems more worth it to me..any inputs will be much appreciated. Thks alot

Better not to start...but if you start...better not to stop.

Regarding your choice...though you could read the tutorial above under knowledge, and establish some benchmarks for your choice...

Based on limited but genuine personal experience, I can confirm what you know...both are great names, and the Lazarre choice would probably be swell, and rightfully appreciated.

I''d say the first question to answer is, which shape does your girl want?

Another question is, does the Nove face up as big as the round (diameter wise)? I kinda doubt it, as squares usually face up smaller. Is size important to her?


I happen to love both types of stones, but it''s ultimately what your girl would want. Sorry I''m not more help!
 
I''d say get the Lazare and buy your wedding bands from Tiffany with the 2k you saved!
 
I vote for the round too and use the 2k for a tiffany wedding band or you could get a really pretty diamond band from www.signedpieces.com.

You say your GF will love Tiffany''s so if you can swing the extra $2k, I''d go for that. My best friend got a Tiff''s from her man and I know she LOVES it, no others will do, even a Lazare.

Tough choices...... Has your girlfriend seen the rings or diamonds?

Those are VERY different looks. If I were you I would make certain she likes both looks before deciding. My bet is that she will strongly prefer one over the other because they are so different.

I have a ring similar to the novo and I love it. But would I really want a plain solitaire with a round? No.

There are also other *cheaper* places to go if you''re interested whose stones and settings will be super high quality...
 
Pick the one your girlfriend likes if you can afford it, that''s the most important factor.
 
I''d buy a hearts and arrows diamond that was larger and not pay for the LK brand name if I wanted a round stone (see Good Old Gold or WhiteFlash for examples). But if I wanted a brand name ring, I''d rather have the Tiffany.
 
Get what the lady wants if you can afford it and if she''s in love with the Nova.
 
I would see about finding out which one she would prefer.

Ditto, or the one she prefers.

Also, would she rather have a larger stone that is non-designer, or a designer ring? I would keep in mind her preferences.
 
wow..thanks for all the valuable suggestions! to save the 2k to buy another wedding band? i''ve never thought of that..haha..
anyway on the thoughts about which diamond is bigger, i''ll prefer quality over a bigger sized rock. i took my gal to view the rings from lazare and she''s fine with it. But you know how some gals just go abit crazy over the tiffany brand..(no offence). especially when the Novo is a new design. i ran up some info on LK and kind of like the fact that the company sets some ethical standard on its trade like not dealing with conflict diamonds and stuff..its good to know that when im buying something im also supporting a cause.

when i read through the feedback,i figured there''s no right or wrong choice when we are comparing the 2 stones.
Its which ''brand'' she''s more comfortable with and will show off proudly to her galfriends..well, girls will be girls.

its still a tough choice. im ok with the extra 2k if i feel its worth it. the thing is, i don''t. its only right that u pay more for a bigger cut or a better quality. but i feel the extra 2k only goes to the blue box n paperbag. i tink theres''s a way to get around my lady..maybe i''ll still pay the price of a tiffany''s but get a larger rock from Lazare? Well I think the Nova is a very special style of ring and why not just get what she wants if you can afford it? If not, that''s another issue. If she wants a bigger ring from Lazare fine, if not then get the Tiffany. Personally I would rather have a smaller ring that was exactly what I wanted then a bigger one that wasn''t my first choice - but people have different opinions on this. And my fiance let me pick out my own ring.

I mean there seems to be an assumption that the premium you pay at Lazare is ''worth it'' but I''m sure some of that is rent, marketing, etc. I don''t know the ring you''re looking at at Lazare but I love the Nova.
