Hi there,

Have been lurking for awhile, but am new to this forum. I am looking at buying a 2.09 carat L VS2 OMC from a private party and need a recommendation for a Seattle area appraiser. I have searched here and found a couple names, but the threads were a bit old, so thought I''d see if anyone has some names?

The seller will be sending the diamond to a 3rd party appraiser near me so that I can see the stone and verify specs via appraisal. The appraiser will also act as escrow agent for the transaction.

I have seen countless pics and video clips of this diamond and spoken to an antique jeweler/dealer who has seen it in person, so I have no doubt that this diamond will be wonderful!

Once the transaction is final, you will all have to help me choose a setting for it. Right now I''m thinking Lean Mege halo...

Thanks for the help!

Hi and welcome!

WOW!!! The diamond sounds incredible and I bet it will be super gorgeous with an L colour!!! Regarding the appraiser, at the top right of the page you will see Resources, hold the mouse over it and you will see appraisers, click and you will see a map, click on your area and I found 7 appraisers come up, hopefully one will be convenient for you.

Leon sounds good too....

I have seen video clips of the stone and it''s really TDF. The moment I laid eyes on it I felt touched by it''s age, the history it has survived, wondered what stories it had to tell. The color is gorgeous - just a beautiful candlelight warmth that positively GLOWS.

I was also considering a 1.24 carat M VVS1 ideal cut H&A (really cool diamond from Wink), but when I saw it it just didn''t speak to me the same way as the OMC.

I have located an appraiser whose name isn''t on the tool above (thanks for letting me know about that - I wouldn''t have thought to look there!) but I did find her name referenced through PS in a thread somewhere. She is very close to home and super fast - will meet with me the moment she receives it! She also has a lot of knowledge about antique diamonds (did you know there are diamond cutters, many in India, who are cutting new diamonds into antique cuts? She says there are a lot on the market passing as antiques but she can tell the difference). Within 1 hour of contacting her she has already spoken with the seller and arranged for shipment and called me back with status. She seems very professional.

This is my FIRST diamond purchase and any advice on the process is appreciated! The seller is a doll and I did speak to someone who recently purchased another antique diamond from her (priced even higher than mine!) and was very happy with the diamond and the seller.

Ericad,

The feel for what you''re doing is good, friendly, and community based. Frankly, I support it.

Just know, in principle, the problems here. Though I had the guy I bought my diamond from be in touch with my appraiser directly...a disadvantage of that could be in having the appraiser finding it valuable to serve two customers...you...and the seller...who they can do future business with. This could be good for them..and not necessarily so good for you, if the piece is even slightly marginal.

Buying real estate...my first home was with a real estate agent who was a friend. My second home...the agent was an unknown to me. Evaluating...right now...based on this particular scenario...I could not tell you which approach was better for sure...except...no...the first one was better.

Science only goes so far.

Regards,
