Iam having extreme difficulty in finding any good quality stones with good color and saturation . Iam making a ring for myself and i need a 2 to 3 carat oval cut stone anyone has any clue where to find something decent

You have asked this question before and gotten a few responses but you never came back and posted again. The last post you made you said you wanted a "real" paraiba and not one of the wannabe's from mozam. or nigeria. Now you want one from Nigeria?

Nigerian material is the least saturated in color out of the three locales for this material, Mozambique and Brazil being other two locations. I doubt you will find anything super saturated if limiting your search to Nigerian material, even though some of it is very attractive.

Is there a reason you are choosing Nigerian material? Sometimes the cutters frequently mentioned on this site have cuprian stones, though 3 carats is getting up there in size. What specifically are you looking for? color? cut?

To a response to your reply original material from the Bathalia mine is going for 20 to 30 thousand a carat if you can even find anything . So i decided to opt for the nigerian or mozam which is in my price range of about 3 to 7 thousand a carat for decent material. Any dealers you know offhand

You state you want a saturated gem, but there's a reason why the top stones from the Bathalia mine are going for $30K/ct and up (although, to be honest, I think that's overpriced for tourmaline). Not sure what kind of saturation you're looking for, but don't expect the same quality of top gem material from Brazil.

Paraibainternational.com deals in paraiba tourmaline from various locations. Do not restrict yourself to one location, as Mozambique has nice stones as well.

I second TL's suggestion. Also, check with Gene at Precision Gem, and Jeff White, who may have access to some brilliant rough, if I'm remembering correctly, and then of coure try Africagems and Swala.

If you want a well saturated gem, irrespective of locality you will be paying top dollar. It's almost impossible to give you an $x per carat because this material is highly sought after and not common at all.

Why don't you consider the stone you originally asked about, the one that is for sale on Precisiongem and being sold by a pricescope member? That is, if I recall correctly, from Mozambique but has great saturation. I don't know if it's still for sale but it'd be worth seeing.

These stones do not come around very often. If you see one then you should get it without hesitation otherwise it probably won't be there when you go back again. They never stay around very long. If you've moved away from having to have a Brazilian stone then you should look for the best you can afford irrespective of locality. There is no particular kudos if you buy a Mozambique over a Nigerian or the other way around

In terms of the material that Paraibainternational have .......... it's not great - but that's indicative of the market.

I am also confused by the post so I am trying to clear things up for myself. By going with a Nigerian cuprian, it’s probably going to be a huge disappointment if you’ve seen the finest Brazilian paraibas. Although I have not seen any comparable Nigerian cuprian tourmaline, I wonder if you will end up being disappointed in the end. I am only trying to get a realistic feel of what you are looking for.

Another good website for the tourmalines is JTV, they sell quite a bit and stand behind all sales.
