Cool, isn't it? Mine does that in sunlight except there are more colours since mine is an I colour. It looks as if yours is a higher colour grade than that?

yes its an F color marquise .90 carat vs1. i love the rainbows

i would love to see other colors to see the difference of rainbows

Very cool pic! :sun:

Great shot! :appl:

When I was outside today my rings were doing that in the car. I wished I had taken a picture. Very cool!

it was an easy pic to take. just used my iphone and a piece of paper and positioning in the sun. i was surprised with the outcome

Body color actually has nothing to do with the rainbows. It is dispersion of the light. This is a byproduct of the cutting angles and proportions, not body color.

it made me curious to know why the reflection of the table was bent in the ew position. and why all the rainbows were on the edge

Great photo.

I saw lots of rainbows and "disco ball lights" when my fiance proposed to me last Sunday in very bright sunlight :) It was so pretty! I can't stop staring at my ring... I want to take rainbow lights pictures but it's overcast in Vancouver right now.

awesome shot!

Ditto. Body color has nothing to do with it - it's all in the cut and the way the light disperses through it!

So pretty! You should make that your avatar picture!

I wanna say that Mara coined the phrase "Sparkle Drops" for this effect a long ways back. I think the best places for these shots are in the car and on a plane.

I took this pic in my house during the evening before the sun started to really set. It works best on the edge of
Where the sun peers in. If you keep the diamond on the border then point it to where there is no sunlight you can see your 'bling'. I'm still curios to know why on the right of the pic there is an easy to west shape. I always thought that was the reflection of the table but my marquise is set north to south. I understand that the colours are from the dispersion of the light but why is it flipped?

It's not flipped. The further away, the more stretched the reflections. If you look at the closer white reflections, you'll see that the table reflections are in the proper positions.

Cool shot!

You should repost a copy of your pic into the "Fire" thread. Cool shot!

I stand corrected!

I don't get it, though, because I'm sure I get more rainbow-coloured flashes of light from my I colour e-ring than my D colour pendant and studs. Not talking about the dispersion/reflection effect above, but actual light coming from the diamond in dimmer lighting.

Where is the fire thread? I tried to search but nothing. I'd love to see more pics of fire

Car is great, mirror shots double the reflection.
Actually I see the best Sparkle Drops in church!! It's very distracting, my husband has to nudge me to pay attention. I'm seriously thinking of giving everything a nice bath and doing a photo shoot in church one of these days;)
