oops..wrong photo above.. this one.. I meant to post, but the one above was on a camping trip. No leash ever while camping. She stays in the site by herself, leads my mountain bike through the woods always within 10-20 feet and does not chase other dogs.. I really had to beat that into her.. but she really has become a great dog..not to mention a great camper, hiker and Swimmer!

L-O-V-E these pics! I just wandered onto this topic.
We have two rescue dogs from the DC animal shelter. We rescued Vlady (vladimir) in 2000 - severly abused and starved, and Cooper in 2005 - people couldn''t hide him from the landlord anymore. Both are wonderful dogs. Vlady is the white one - American Eskimo Dog and Cooper is Sheltie mix (11 lbs). When we got Vlady he was 19 lbs (foster home) and when he was at the shelter he was 13 lbs.... 29 lbs is more normal. Vlady has lived with us in DC, Nigeria and now in the UK. Cooper is a total lap dog.

Boomer was diagnosed with hip dysplasia in both hips this year. He is not even 2 yet.
He started limping and I thought his leg had fallen asleep or something. Poor baby might have to have surgery one day, but for now we give him Rimadil twice a day and Glucosamine once a day. He seems good as new. He won''t be doing any agility training like leaping over burning cars any time soon, but that''s okay by me.

How could you not love this face? He is such a sugar plum!

I am sorry to say this is pretty indicative of what might happen when buying a dog from a mall. Is he kennel club registered? Here in the UK any dogs with a history of such issues have to be screened before their offspring can be sold as kennel club registered. This in theory eliminates as much as possible the risk of these things occuring. He is the most beautiful dog and thank goodness a responsible and loving owner rescued him from whence he came. However, if no-one bought from Malls they wouldn''t bother selling dogs. People should only ever buy from reputable breeders and have the opportunity of seeing mother and possibly father first, to assess tempermant. Sorry to bang on, but I love dogs so much and cannot bear to think how some are treated.

Finally, why do we have to buy either cat or dog people? i love and have them all, and a horse and a guinea pig. I love animals full stop (period) for American cousins.

Here''s my baby - Harry (full name is Harry Winston - I wanted his first name to Winston, but my FI liked Harry more so, we just combined the two)! He''s just 10 weeks old and the most precious thing you can imagine! He''s a purebred Yorkshire Terrior and quite the little heart breaker. We just picked up our new little girl today from a local shelter. Maggie now has a new friend! She is a cutie pie. She is only 13 pounds. Mutts are truly a gift from god. We are going to rename her… any recommendations?

Our dog Roxy has been going up and down the slide with our kids'' since we brought her home at 8 weeks old. (She is 1 1/2 years old now.) She gets up the ladder all by herself. I remeber seeing her for the first time in the tree house. I said, "how did the dog get in the tree-house?" The kids'' said, "Oh, she got up there by herself and she can slide down."
