Anybody have theirs pierced? I have been thinking about it, but my world is somewhat conservative. I want a really tiny teeny diamond. I think they are so beautiful. I am obsessed. Anybody willing to share pics or thoughts?

I have my nose pierced! I''ve had it pierced for about 8 years. It hurts quite a bit to get pierced, actually, but it heals very quickly-much faster than any other piercing, in my opinion. I like mine a lot! I don''t have pictures, but I just wear a small surgical steel stud that I bought at the piercer.

If you do get it done, go to a good body piercing place-don''t get someone with an ear piercing gun to do it. Also, my piercer recommended wearing a hoop at first because it''s easier to clean. I was in college at the time so a hoop was fine for me. Hope this helps!

P.S. When I take it out you can''t really tell I have a hole there. If you look closely you can, but since it''s on the side of my nose it''s not obvious.

I forgot to add that I don''t know how well it would go over in a conservative world. My dad who is pretty conservative was NOT happy with me! He got over it pretty quickly, but still. I work in fashion so it''s fine for me to have my nose pierced.

I had mine pierced when I lived in Germany. I accidently pulled it out the same day when I took my top off. The pain was horrible! I pushed it back in again but it kept getting infected and I had to take it out for good.

I had my nose pierced for about a year in my mid-20s. A new job required that I remove it, but I liked having it. DH said he wouldn''t have dated me if I had it when he met me (silly man!).

I'll preface this by saying I do like piercings of all kinds and have worn jewelry in some very unlikely places.

I thought nose piercings were so pretty I did mine twice when I was 15 (in 1972). My mother said "You know, someday you're just going to have a big, ugly pore where that thing was. She was pretty much right. I'm 50 years old and I have telltale signs of the short-term piercings. I don't regret it, but I really, really, really think this particualar piercing looks best on non-white women - unless it's a b***s-out septum ring. I also think your somewhat conservative world might take the fun out of having it and that retainers look like hell.

I've had this piercing for nearly 15 years.

I know it''s something to really think about before doing it but I guess I need to find a pic somewhere to show how subtle this would be. Let me go look. And, I totally know the risks of doing this such as scarring and infection.

Ninama- Ouch Girl! Thanks for the information.

Hehe your DH sounds like my FI.

I always wanted my nose pierced, but decided against it. I live in a conservative world also.

I used to have my belly button pierced, and I remember that I removed it for a while and then thought about putting another ring in there....
I asked FI if he thought I should, and he goes "Why, are you feeling particularly pre-teen today?"

I haven''t put it back in since.

p.s. OUCH Ninama!!!

Just adding my .02.

My cousin had her nose pierced in high school. (over 10 years ago) It looked awesome for a while, but then she got really sick. Apparently all of the sneezing/blowing caused it to enlarge. So, now she has to wear a MONSTER stud so it doesn''t fall through the hole. She tried just taking it out, but the hold is ginormous and is disturbing to look at.

So, I don''t know if she just didn''t take care of it properly during her illness, or if this is something that just happens every once in a while.

My DH has always wanted me to get mine pierced, and I have to admit, every couple years I think about it again!

Well, I can''t find any sites that have good pictures of what I want. So to describe it, imagine the size of a dot that a ball point pen would make. The stud that I would have appears flush with the skin with no prongs and is placed at the crease of the nostril. Very subtle. I wish I could find a good pic.

SDL- What kind of piercing did she have that looked so bad?

Hey girl--

I have had mine pierced for almost 7 years. I absolutely love it!! Healed within a few days, never gets infected, and I like the way it looks. You do have to do your due diligence on cleaning it daily--I use a q-tip and some alcohol every morning before putting my makeup on. They make great clear studs to put in when you don''t want to or can''t wear your nose ring. I wear a small black onyx stud, its very tiny like the diamond studs you are referring to. I have worn my clear stud for multiple occasions, and no one has ever known my nose was pierced. My experience was positive, and I say go for it!

ETA--some of you mentioned your significant others didn''t like the idea of nose rings. My ex-husband was a very conservative research scientist. We attended many functions with big companies that gave him stipends and funding options for his lab work. He was very opposed to the nose ring idea. So, me being me,

I did it anyways, and after a couple of days, he told me that he actually really liked it. Within a few months, he told me he would have regretted me not getting it done. I wore clear studs for all conservative events, and even for work. Its kind of like a hidden tattoo--you know its there, but only people you want to see it have to. My current husband loves the nose ring. First thing he commented on when he met me. Oh, and I live in a very conservative area as well. But many MANY people have piercings of one kind or another. Just my 2 cents!

Makes my nose twitch just thinking about it. As an allergy sufferer, I can''t imagine a more annoying spot for a piercing . . . I can imagine more painful spots for a piercing, I suppose.

first personal opinion:
I don''t like the looks of them and think they are gross.

2nd:
A friends of mine daughter got a paid summer internship in an office.
She walked in and the secretary told her too take it off or she would never work there.
She did and got the job.
Couple months later forgot and wore it too work and was made too leave for the day with no pay.
Despite an awesome review she was not hired back the next summer and she feels it was because the senior partner that sent her home rejected her application.
Now if that is the true reason or not who knows.
She does not wear one anymore.

I have a friend with that type of piercing; she has a tiny tiny opal. I was looking for a picture that I could post for you, but it''s so subtle it doesn''t really show in the pictures. I think hers looks nice on her, but personally I don''t think it would suit my face. Why not get a tiny magnetic earing to wear around for a while and see if you like the look?

I am definitely not a fan. I''m thankful that my 19 year old daughter thinks they are ugly-and many of her friends have them.

I have had mine pierced for 12 years. I wear it everyday, never take it out, never had any infections. I did have it done by a proper piercist and would recommend them over the gun anytime. I wear a tiny silver ball, its really wee and I love it. I blow my nose fine and never take it out except to clean it once in a while.

I do think that there''s a certain style of nose that suits it better than others and also it really depends on where you wear it on your nose. I had a friend who had it done and it was too far forward and looked silly, she took it out after a few days because everyone was commenting on it.

I''ll try and post a pic tomorrow for you.

As for looks, I''m pretty neutral when it comes to nose piercings. Some I think look good others not so much. I don''t really think about it after an initial look.

One thing I remember though, I had taken some class on body language something or other, and the teacher mentioned nose piercings.

I remember that one thing that stuck in my head, he said that nose piercings were thought of in some cultures as a sign of being a submissive woman and that many women who had it as a fashion statement didn''t realize what they were doing. Somehow he related having a nose ring to cattle herding? Anyways, I dont remember much else about it, but whenever I see nose rings now it reminds me of that a bit which I don''t like at all.

I went with my ex to get her nose pierced. Ha....... she was a bleeder. It was strange?! Just a nose, but it trailed so quickly down the side of her.

I think it depends on your nose shape. I think they can look cute, but for people that have freckles, or an already interesting face, it''s overdone.

People with already clean smooth looks,skin... seem to do well with it, right? It''s a point of interest, think cindy... oh, what''serr name. That chick with the beauty mark.

I''d bet my life on my husband hating it if I pierced my nose. That being said if I had met him when it was still pierced I certainly wouldn''t have taken it out for him.

Six years after the fact I don''t miss my piercing at all; but I am glad I had it for a while, it was fun. And I had no holes, nor did I have any issues with infection. It was the transition from college to career that meant it had to be removed (I worked for a conservative PEO at the time).

I don''t have mine done. I work in a conservative area and the adults and kids look at my uncommon ear piercings oddly (I have a hoops through the conch and the rook in both ears).

Ninama, THAT is one of the piercings I want! I love it. It must have taken forever to heal... it took a long, long time for my rook and conch to heal.

It''s gone now but this is what you want. I had my FI special order an 18g stud for me. I''ll have to find out the company he got it from. Most shops will use a 16g but if you want it small you need an 18g.

I had my nostril pierced for several years - I really loved it and never had any problems with infection, etc. I started out with a teeny tiny diamond (ala Christing Aguilera in that video with Ricky Martin), and then got really creative with different gemstones. There is a seller on ebay that makes really beautiful body jewelry - I must have at least 20 of her pieces - I even had her do some custom pieces for me (navel and other places). I think the store name is Amazon Jewelry.

i had my nose pierced twice in my early 20''s. I had a small silver stud next to a thin silver hoop. I absolutely LOVED it!! I had just one for about 3 years and then had the second one done and had that for 2 years. Had to take them out for work. I no longer work but its been about 6 years since I''ve had them in and they are closed up, although if you look close you can see the holes.

The first time I got it pierced it bled like CRAZY! I dont think its normal and it kinda freaked out the piercer (and me!!) but the second time no blood at all. I''ll try to find a pic and scan it in. A small diamond would look cool, but I think they are still frowned on quite a bit in most work environments.

At one point I had my tragus on my left ear pierced, my rook on my right ear (had to have balance!), my tongue, and my belly button. Oh yeah, and five going up from the lobe and two in the cartilage of both ears. Total of 18 piercings?

I've never wanted a nose piercing or any other facial piercing. I was made to work in the back at Williams Sonoma because of my tragus piercing-I had taken out the rook (it never truly healed)-they only allow lobe piercings. Bleh.

One day I really want to get my tragus again (the little chunk of skin and cartilage right in front of the ear hole) and my two cartilage at the top of both ears again-only done by a piercer. They were done with a gun the first time.

My FSIL has a tiny tiny diamond in her nose and I think it's perfect for her.

Ninama--that is AWESOME--what else do you have pierced? And what tattoos do you have?

ETA-my tragus bled. A lot. And then the night after I woke up with my ear full of dried blood. I managed to hide it from my mom for about a year, and my dad randomly noticed one time when my hair was up-he ALWAYS made comments about it afterwards-but he's a suit and very conservative like that, so it was expected from him. I would say the tragus took about a year to heal, but once it did-it was great. I do want it again...

I have my nose pierced. I had it done by a friend when I was 16. I''m 36 now and still have it. I''ve never needed to take it out for a job- yet.

I''m hoping I can find a relaxed spa enviroment to do massage so I don''t have to. I''ve worked in retail, bank services and am now in an office and no one has ever said anything about it. I have a small silver hoop. I also have my navel (14 years ago) tongue (12 years ago) and one of the ''girls'' (8 years ago) And my ears of course.

I think a good example of what you''re looking for is the actresss that plays Lily on Young and the Restless. She has a tiny, tiny diamond stud that you can''t even really see until the light hits it a certain way and then you see a bit of sparkle.

Yes Legacy that is what I want!
What''s the mm size of the stone please? Thanks for posting your pic . I find nothing repulsive about it. To me its no different than an ear piercing so I''m not sure what the gross factor is. Now, I would never get a ring or a bone because IMO that''s not pretty. So to each his own.
I appreciate all the information and I am considering doing it. Researching my local piercing places. I no longer work so that''s not an issue at all. And, I don''t care what anyone thinks of me especially someone that makes a judgement based on a nose piercing. It might be an issue for social functions with my husband, but it sounds like I can get a clear stud and that would remedy his issue.

Your piercer would probably tell you this, but one of the benefits of NOT using the gun is that you can use a thicker gauge- that way if they get yanked, they don''t pull out.

The hoop in the helix (top cartilage) is 16guage... it''s been pulled at the salon IDK how many times and has never cut into the ear or been pulled out. If the hoop is too thin, when pulled it can just rip right through the ear. My rooks have 18g... the bar is MUCH easier to do... trying to get the curve for the hoop in that thick area was not fun and was slow. The hoops in my conch are 14g. The conch took forever to heal and the rooks forever and day! One thing I really love about my hoops is that they are custom made- most of the hoops have the little ball you twist so you can take it out... these don''t twist... you have to pull the end out of the ball with pliers. Bummer if I want to take them out because I can''t... but I don''t have to worry about losing them either. Last summer when I was sick, the advice nurse told me to go into ER immediately. I grabbed some pliers just in case lol. I did end up having to have emergency surgery... I had tried taking them out but couldn''t, so the dr. just taped my ears up real good (they don''t want to risk anything falling into the surgery site).

Sooooo all of that to say, anyone getting a piercing should have it done by a pro and use a thicker gauge. Oh, and none of that iodized steel or whatever it''s called- the colored metal- none of that on a fresh piercing.

That''s basically when I lost all of my piercings...surgery. Not cool. By the time I was healed enough to think about my tragus and rook the holes had already started closing.

I don''t regret taking out the rook though-I had it for over 3 years and it still hadn''t closed.

And don''t get me started on my tongue. I had that sucker pierced 3 times...Getting your tongue pierced is pretty painless in case anyone is considering it. It''s just awkward to eat afterwards. However, I had to take mine out when it started chipping my teeth.

Diamond Quest----

After I read the last post by you, I had to share a little story with ya.

So, I live in an area where many people are pretty wealthy. (I am not one of them though
39.gif
) There is a strong social stigma of appearances. 16 year olds drive luxury cars, moms tote their Coach and Prada purses, the women stay at home and raise the kids while their hubbys make the big bucks to support the lifestyle. Hey, its all good. To each their own. Not my lifestyle, but I don''t look down upon them for the way they choose to live. Anyways, about 5 years ago, I was just getting my own business off the ground. I moonlighted at a posh day spa for about 6 months. One evening, here comes Prada mom into the salon with her 5 kids in tow. I couldn''t believe that someone would pay $60 for an EIGHT year old to get a haircut, but hey, I worked 50% commission, so bring it on! Anyways, the mom was nice and friendly, and chatting with me while I am cutting her son''s hair. She turns to me and says "I assume you don''t have children?". I told her no, and asked her why she thought that. She says to me "Well, I don''t think the PTA would think very highly of your nose ring". It took me about 10 seconds to get over the shock and my reply to her was "well, they have no problem with meth and speed addicted soccer moms, so whats the deal? My nose ring comes out, drug habits require rehab". Lets just say she didn''t say anything else about ANYTHING while I finished up her little darlings haircut.

DISCLAIMER---I have no issues, personal or professional, with anyone who is a former addict, current addict, a soccer mom, stay at home mom, or a person of financial privilege. I don''t want anyone to think I am calling them out or anything. Just a personal experience that I had that I laugh about, and I love telling the story.
