Not Your Daughter's Jeans?

I feel like there may have been a thread on this, but I can't find it...

Has anyone tried NYDJ? Do you like them? How do they fit? What do you like best style-wise?

NEED a new pair of jeans NOW!!!

My experience is that you either love 'em or hate 'em. They don't fit me well, so I'm in the "hate" camp, but a couple of my friends think they are the best thing since sliced bread. My suggestion is that you find a store that carries them, grab a range of sizes in every style and see if they work for you. My issue with them is that if they are big enough to fit in the hip without making my face turn blue, they gap at the waist. YMMV.

Hmm. Don't know how the front thingy works. I just grabbed a pile of jeans a couple of years ago and bought the ones that looked the best. Once I wanted other pairs I googled the ones I had and found out it was one of their 'standard' styles. I'm not creative so I just bought more of the same in washes and colors I like.

As for sizing. If the material is thinner I go one size smaller. If the fabric is thicker I go with my normal size. The thinner material stretches more. So as I wear them they get too loose. If I order on the net, I usually just get my normal size. Macy's is usually cheaper, but I hate them so I usually just call Nordstroms and ask them to price match, or if I'm in the store, ask them to price match. Works as long as it is the same pair.

I'm a fan. I have multiple pairs of these, all dark denim bootcut. They are very flattering and they look great from behind, a sort of butt-lift effect. I buy them at least two sizes smaller than I usually wear, although that could be because they're in US sizes and I live in the UK. Try them on for the right fit, because it's hard to judge.

They fit my body shape nicely and don't gape around the waist like every other pair of jeans on the planet. I detest jeans that sit below my waist, I do not care whether I'm supposed to love them or not, they are the work of the devil. The NYDJ tend to be cut a little higher, and that won't appeal to everyone - again, I'd say to try them on before deciding, because they are probably a little more expensive than they need to be.

One pair fell apart after about 6 months wear - I emailed the company and they sent me a new pair, no quibble. They do have excellent customer service.

I tried on a pair at Neiman's once & hated them. Tried a size smaller than my usual slacks size & they hugged so tightly, you could see the cellulite in my legs, YACK! One reason you don't wear your daughter's jeans is they show all the foibles in your outline. NYDJ were worse.

Yup.

The jeans I like I get from, believe it or not, Coldwater Creek. They are the knit denim, boot cut, and fit really beautifully. I have multiple pairs in every color. And here's the funny thing: my two daughters, who are in their 20's and are very fashion conscious, do too, so that should tell you something about how flattering and comfortable they are. All three of us have completely different body types, wear different sizes, and we all look, if I do say so myself, pretty darn good. I don't ever buy the skinny-leg version, which my younger daughter does, but if that's the style you prefer, those look great and fit beautifully too.

I tried on NYDJ at a local store and I truly did not like them. My sister, on the other hand, bought 2 pair.

I love Gap Long and Lean. The woman at the Gap store was the one who told me that would be my ideal jean and she was right.It sits exactly where I want, just below my belly button and not just above my butt. They fit my body type perfectly in the hips, waist, and butt. The length ( average) is perfect for me as I always need to buy "tall" and hem them. They have also survived numerous washings in the machine and come out look new each and every time.

When I am thin (i.e., not now... ) I like the Lucky retro riders. In general, I like the Gap curvy, but I don't love where they hit me -- enough muffin top to start my own bakery -- ACK!!! So we'll see how these go. I'm heading to the mall after I get done with my client and trying some on. I would really like to limit myself to one pair, since I DO (please god...!!!) intend to drop some of this weight now that I've had the second knee surgery and can start working out again, but if they are *fabulous* I may have to go for two! Will post you all later on what I find.

I've never tried NYDJ (and for some reason the name kind of turns me off)...but I like a lot of the Lucky brand jeans...

I've got a bit of muffin, but have really narrow hips (once I heard a woman making fun of me because of this! ) so most of my jeans have to be narrow in the hips, to fit well, hence the muffin...

I agee Lucky has some great styles. The pair I have is lower cut so if I wear a long shirt, there's no muffin to show. I also wear Seven of Mankind which seem to fit better than others.

You know, I had talked to a friend a few years back and she commented that the "hot spot" to get tummy tucks was some dr. down the road and I wasn't sure if she was joking. But then recently talking to another mom, she told me of NUMEROUS moms who've had them. I'm literally the only one left who's had c/sections and hasn't had a tuck!

Well... that was... interesting...

Went to Bloomies and tried on every style in three different colors... I even tried some Michael Kors and Ralph Lauren since they were on the way to the fitting room... and then I went to Old Navy and bought the same jeans I own already, but one size bigger. For $29.50 a pair, I was tempted to get all three washes, but I made myself stop at two.

About the NYDJ... I don't know exactly how to explain this... they felt, um, *weird*. The fabric itself was like nothing else that's ever molded itself to my a$$ (and I do mean MOLDED). I could have probably gotten used to the feel, but there were these horizontal lines under my butt, right at the part where my thighs bulged the most (and quite strangely, I must say!). My jeans right now are a 6, I just bought 8s at Old Navy, becuase I put everything in the dryer 'til it begs for mercy so I know how much these will shrink, but I tried on the NYDF in a 4, 6 and 8, and none of them fit. I even tried a 10 in one style, becuase I really really really wanted to like them (not to mention I had a 20% off Bloomies coupon!), but those were WAY to big.

Sigh.

I know that there are women in this world who can find jeans that fit them beautifully, they they look marvelous in them, but I guess I'm not ever going to be one of them...

OK, so I just tried on the other pair of jeans (I got them in two washes, and tried the darker, but not the lighter) and I have to exchange them becuase the waist is SIGNIFICANLY tigter. One of the things I really liked about the darker ones was no muffin top, but here I've got baked goods all over the damn place!

I like the levis longs ALOT but I gained 15 lbs and now mine are tight but I refuse to buy bigger ones so I am just addressing the muffing top!

I also, I bought a second pair of the levis, same model number, etc. online and they are totally different jeans and fit totally differently...

My favorite khakis are by Anne Taylo. I bought them years ago and I have never found a another pair with the same cut I noticed the other day they are starting to wear thin, I don't know what I am going to do!??!?!?!

Yes, it's the woman's shopping trifecta of dread.

I won't even go into a B&M store to try on swimsuits anymore. I order several online, and try them on in the peace and privacy of my own home. There's something about the lighting and close-up positioning of a dressing room mirror that makes swimsuits look much, much worse in a store than they ever look in real life. That's my theory, anyway. And if I really look that way in a swimsuit, I would just as soon not know, thank you very much.

I'm glad you found at least one pair of jeans you like. That's a successful shopping day in my book.

Jumping in here to recommend you try J Jill jeans. I wear nothing else. You can get them either in the store on on line. I have one of every style. They fit me perfectly and are so comfortable

I rarely wear jeans and haven't tried that particular brand. I'm super short waisted- like SUPER short waisted. Even "low rise" women's jeans tend to hit pretty high on my waist. The '90s women's jeans actually touched my bra strap.

So anyway, when I was size 0/2 but still hourglass figured, I loved men's 501 straight leg, button fly Levis- the waist fit around my upper hips, just like nothing else did. Now that I'm size 16, and even more hour glass figured I assumed I would need a different style of jean. Nope. Men's still fit me best. I have to buy for them to fit around my hips, rather than my waist, but they work better than women's styles for whatever weird reason. Women's jeans just irk me- too much spandex maybe? If they fit they will fall off due to the waist gapping too much I think, and the waist is almost always way too high still, even the "low rise" kind. I have hips- always have- and it makes no sense that the men's styles work better, but they always have for me. (I think my short waist has a lot to do with it.)

If you end up cursing all and sundry women's jeans maybe wander into the mens department. Even for short women like me (5'2") you can still find men's sizes that are not too long in the leg.

I just bought a pair at Nordstrom Rack last Friday. I'd never tried them on before, but decided to just to see if that were decent. I haven't worn them yet, but in trying them on, they're okay. They fit. I don't LOVE them, but to be honest, I don't love anything much these days because I'm still trying to come to gribs with not being the size 4 I was before I got married.

I'm taking them to Turkey, so I'll have a verdict in the next two week if I love 'em or hate 'em!

And I have no idea which style I bought. I should go look!
