Hi, all. I haven''t been here very long, but wanted to share my good news...I received a beautiful, romantic proposal yesterday and a gorgeous, 2-carat princess-cut diamond in a plain platinum setting...a red rose...champagne poured into two vintage glasses belonging to BF''s uncle...In a perfect outdoors spot w/special meaning to my now fiance, under a blue sky and gentle breezes. This mid-40s girl never thought this could happen for her again. Miracles do occur! I was so exhausted last night...Fiance went home and I dropped into bed feeling like I would sleep for 12 hours...then I woke up at 7:30 this a.m. and couldn''t go back to sleep.
As some of you may know, I''m 45 and was married to a wonderful man for 14 years, who three years ago died of a brain tumor we''d struggled with for years and years. I loved and love him so much. My now fiance is the oldest brother of my hubby''s best, dearest, oldest friend (he''s divorced). My fiance, unbeknownst to me, during this week before the proposal, went to visit both my dad and stepmother and my mom and stepfather, and told them he was going to ask. I know this sounds old-fashioned -- especially since I''m 45 and he''s 52 -- but it really cemented his "wonderfulness" in the eyes of my family, and got us off to a solid start in terms of those relationships (which I know, having been married before, wind up really impacting your life as a couple).
Now come the planning and the adjustments! I think we''re aiming for October or November as our date, and I''ll be moving into his home and renting out the condo I purchased when my husband passed and I sold our house (after a disturbed neighbor broke in one night, and the police advised me to leave). My fiance has a son, 20, and two daughters, 23 and 25. One is in college, one is on her first job after college and living at home for the time being, and one is on her way to MBA school in New York and is herself engaged. My fiance also has four brothers, and LOTS of nieces and nephews. Will I fit in?!
When my husband passed away, I thought I could never love again. This a different love, but just as wonderful. It is teaching me that, in the world of love, there''s "never subtraction, only addition..."
Yay!! Thanks for listening.
