Now I really did it :((

Junebug and Ov, i wish you were here to come shopping with me today. I bought all the plants yesterday and just didn't feel like making up the pots today so I will do that tomorrow. I went shopping for a few hours today while my husband golfed. I'm going to try to get him to take me to dinner tonight. We will see how that goes although ordering in a pizza also sounds good. OV, if you were here I would still drag you to dinner with me. Kristie and Jimmianne are you up for shopping and dinner? I need to stop talking about food. I'm so hungry!

Marcy. Where are you? Are you having a good weekend? Is Marty golfing?

Junebug, Please let me know if you plan on selling your current SC home. Can you get to the home by car or do you need to take a ferry?

Jimmianne, My husband prefers flying United for international flights. He says they are better than American. He also likes British Airlines. Please keep in mind he has only flown business or first class. He is a bit of a travel snob. When we traveled to a California a few months ago his friend travels so much for American that they escorted all of us on the plane before anyone else was allowed to board. That was kind of weird feeling. People were looking at us like who the heck are you. First class flyers do not like to see anyone getting on a plane before them. It was pretty funny actually.

Missy, I hope you are having fun with you family today. Have fun cycling tomorrow! Will there be a new pair of earrings in your future?

LLJsmom, I'm glad you have been popping in again. The last I heard from my niece she said her boyfriend has decided he wants to handle the ring shopping all by himself. My husband made the comment that he thought that was scary. He thought that was a very crazy idea considering the boyfriend knows nothing about diamonds. There is a lot going on in my nieces family at the moment. This way also have something to do with the search being slowed down.

Kristie, The furbaby and I will be over for a swim. How funny Maggie has a Louis Vuitton life jacket!

Missy, I'm glad you like the ring, I'm really anxious to get it!

I really appreciate your comments about the situation with my son - I can't tell you how much your kind words mean to me. I have made mistakes as a mother, but I've always tried to do my best and be there for my kids and I'll continue doing that, and just try to help my son figure out the direction he wants to go in, or at least help him figure out what to do while he's trying to decide lol. Thanks for your encouraging words, they helped, a lot.

Yes, against my better judgement I'm a little excited about getting a slightly bigger house closer to the beach! Part of me wants to downsize and questions needing more room, and I'm comfortable with what we have. But lately I've been thinking you only live once so why not just go for it. You mentioned guests…dh and I were saying it would be nice to have a place where we could host family and friends more conveniently. We can accommodate a couple of people at our current house, and it's ok but we're sort of on top of each other. Dh has lost touch a little with his siblings, and I was thinking this would be a great way to reconnect with them - if they want to visit, they can just come to us. :cheeky: And we wouldn't really have to worry about entertaining, we'd have a pool and the beach right there.

I don't really have many opportunities to go to the beach right now because of the situation with my mother, but it's a great house from what we can see and we don't want to miss this opportunity. And in the meantime we'll still get chances to use it, even if we can't spend a whole lot of time there right now.

One of the reasons my dh likes the house is because it's been built to withstand hurricanes…it's built high up, concrete walls reinforced with steel, hurricane proof windows, and some other features I can't remember. I don't think it has a generator though, will have to ask the realtor about that, it's a good point. And thanks for mentioning flood insurance. If I think of anything else I'll be sure to ask you. Thanks for sharing in my excitement!

Hope you had a good visit with your family, and have a great time cycling tomorrow!

Oh, and I'm thinking that getting an endless pool sounds very doable! I'd be so happy for you if it worked out, it sounds like you would really love it. I'm excited about the prospect! :appl:

Ovi, I should have mentioned the stats of the ring- it's GIA Y-Z and the pear measures 8.96 x 6.36. I'm thinking that with the halo the finger coverage will be enough but now I'm second-guessing that but we'll see. It's funny, if you asked me a year ago if I would ever buy a yellow gold ring I would have said no. But recently I've seen several beautiful yg rings on PS and have changed my mind about it. PS will do that to a person lol!

A few posts back I mentioned my son is having a very tough time figuring out what type of work he wants to do - thank you for sharing that it took you a while to figure out what you wanted to do, it helps me to be reminded that sometimes it takes a while to decide on a career path.

Ugh, sounds like you had a really rough day - I'm so glad it's over and you're safe at home, try to get some rest!

LLJsmom, thank you SO much for your support and for sharing the story of your cousin, it actually helps a lot and your cousin reminds me of my son - strong science and math skills, but also has a creative side and an interest in the arts. That's what we're trying to help him figure out right now, a way to incorporate both things lol. I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your thoughts on this!

Thanks for your compliments on the ring! I'm hoping I love it, it was a good compromise for me - I realized I didn't want to spend a ton of money but still wanted something pretty and a little special, so hopefully this ring will do the trick.

And I love your new sunglasses! They're fabulous!

Oh, and don't worry about trying to keep up! I struggle with that too, and miss some things. It's just great to hear from you, jump in whenever you can!

Jimmianne, thanks for the reassurance about my son, everyone has been so great. That is so cool that you have an endless pool! It must be so enjoyable to be able to swim whenever you want - great exercise too! Oh, and I'd keep the water warm too :D

Oh, we have a place in Kiawah Island, SC - about 35 minutes or so from Charleston.

Kristie, as you usual you have great insight and advice! Thanks for your input - yeah, as a parent it's so hard to figure out how much you should interject yourself into your kid's life, how much control you should take - I've struggled with that the whole time I've been a parent. My gut is telling me he needs some guidance and encouragement - But you're right, nobody can really tell him what to do, he does need to work it out himself. I haven't had a chance yet to check out Maslow's pyramid but I will. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts, you made some great points. I like your advice about not relaying my worry and concern to him , because what the heck good is that going to do anyway - I'm going to make sure I just remain supportive and do what I can to help him figure things out.

I'm so happy I'm going to become a member of the pear club lol! I'll be sure to post pics as soon as I get it.

Calliecake, I should have the ring by next Wednesday or Thursday. And yeah, I'll keep you posted about our house! No ferry needed, you just drive right on lol

Follow your gut, junebug, encouragement and support are very different from control and guilt (the tools of bad parents). I told you that you were one of the good ones

Good morning NIRDIs!

Jimmianne, thank you so much for all that endless pool info. I LOVE it. Greg was ready to start looking into it right now (bless him) but I decided we should wait till after his garage is built because I know that is going to cost more than we are thinking it will and we cannot do 2 big expenditures at this time. I did send away for info so I can get a better idea of pricing and also to see if it can go on the 3rd floor. I have a sinking (haha get it :cheeky: ) feeling the 3rd floor might not be able to hold the weight and I have to figure out how much weight our attic can hold. There is no basement or ground floor structure we can put it in so everything depends on if the 3rd floor can hold the weight of the pool. They are bigger than I thought those endless indoor pools!

Any progress re France airline tickets?

LLJsmom, That's amazing you are running so well and for such long distances. I am in awe of you because even before when I could run I never ran that far or long. Running was never my thing and I guess that's lucky for me because now it can never be but I don't miss it because I never did long distance running like you . How is your friend who had the accident doing? Is she getting back to her "normal" life and activities?

I am enjoying my Reformer, thanks for asking. I use it every day and it is a great workout. I have been focusing on my core and leg strengthening exercises as well. It is a very different workout from my elliptical and I love the balance of doing the 2 every day.

Greg and I had one private lesson from Victor (my physical therapist) a few months ago and he came to our house and showed us lots of different exercises and was here for over an hour and a half. But all those months being in PT with Victor and doing Pilates on the reformer there (same reformer as the one we bought for our home) has given me enough of a solid background that I don't feel the need for private instruction anymore.

We have lots of videos also to add to our exercise repertoire should we need to but right now I have enough to keep me busy and enough areas to work on that I don't need any additional lessons at least for now. I spend about 30 minutes a day on our reformer and about an hour and a half on the Arc Trainer. I have been slacking off on doing free weights as I have to tone up my upper arms but I so hate doing free weights that I have been lazy with that. :blackeye: Haha I wish I could get a weight machine in here because I know I would be way more likely to workout my upper body with weights that way but there is no more room left for any exercise equipment in either home so I guess I am OOL.

Kristie, I am so happy your finger is feeling better. It looks like eczema to me but as I said it could be so many different skin conditions that if it comes back again or doesn't continue to get better get thee to a good dermatologist please. Zinc oxide is a very good topical and in fact has helped many with POD but for some reason doesn't give me relief at all. But it has very soothing properties and it is helpful to have on hand in the house as a first aid treatment for a variety of skin conditions. That and raw unheated unfiltered honey.

Callie, haha no I doubt it. I haven't even showed him the earrings I showed you guys. I seriously need to stop spending so we can start saving for retirement and for my endless pool. 8)

Is Jeff playing golf today? What are your Sunday plans?

What kind of dress did your niece end up getting on Thursday? I don't think I told you but I ordered 4 new dresses online and they were delivered Thursday night and I love them. They are the same style with flared open sleeves and above the knee length and 3 of them are pretty prints and one of them is solid black. I wore the orange print yesterday with my taupe SW boots (1st time I wore the taupe colored boots) and it looked nice together. I'm very happy with this purchase as I had no clue how the dresses were going to fit and they fit perfectly. I gained a few lbs and I think clothes are fitting me better though I have my annual physical and also annual gyn appt (I made them the same day to get them both over with I hate going to the doctors) in 2 weeks and I am sort of afraid to see what the scale shows my weight to be...

How is your sweet doggie doing? Any decisions re the flu shot? Is the epidemic there under control? My sister still says my kitties don't need the flu shot but I am still uncertain if they might need it in the future. The flu issue is still a problem for humans where we are according to the internist at our clinic where I work. He said because the flu shot this year was so ineffective it allowed this flu strain to persist well into these warmer months and we are not sure when this flu season will be over. It might just last into the next flu season as we usually start giving our patents injections in late August for the flu.

Ovi, ugh, I am sorry you had a day from hell Saturday and I hope today you spend relaxing and pampering yourself and rejuvenating for the week ahead. Thinking of you and sending happy Sunday vibes your way.

Junebug, I am very excited for your potential new beach house! One of the problems with ours is that it only has 2 guest bedrooms and the 2nd one is right near the master so really not ideal for lots of guests or privacy when we do have guests. So I think getting a larger house where you can host friends and family would be lovely for you and your dh. And it sounds like that house is covered re storms and safety and flooding too. You can always add a generator after you move in and it was one of the best beach house purchases we made so far. It was not that expensive. Please keep us posted on your thoughts re the beach house. We are all very excited and hope it works out for you guys.

OMG We have to wait till Wed or Thursday for your pear ring??? What gives? Tell David to ship it overnight ASAP please. How can we all wait that long? :boohoo: :cheeky:
Seriously I cannot wait for you to receive your pear ring so I can imagine how excited you are to get it. :appl:

Marcy, hope you are enjoying a marvelous weekend!
Same for Sharon and Sarah. Love the spring and the nice spring weather and hoping everyone is enjoying it. I cannot believe it is May already!

It was cooler yesterday than we thought it would be but a gorgeous day. We had a nice time with my family though my nieces are quite rambunctious and truth be told I was glad when it was time to leave. I know that sounds awful but there was a lot of shrieking going on (fun shrieking but piercing nonetheless) and Greg and I are both sensitive to loud and piercing sounds especially for hours on end haha. Love my nieces but they are at an age where they are wild and rough and a bit crazy too lol. It was very nice to see my parents too. My mom looked quite fashionable yesterday. I should have gotten a picture of her darn I didn't even think of it. And my dad loved the sunhat we got him. He's so funny. I get my sense of humor from him.

Today we are hoping for a lovely cycling day by the shore with just the ocean waves to listen to. That's a sound we both enjoy. :wavey:

ETA attaching a pic from yesterday of my most rambunctious niece wearing my OEC ring. Yes I was crazy letting her wear it lol.

Junebug, I was sorry to see that Kiawah is almost 100 miles from Pawley's Island, the place I go....but !'m so excited for you about a new beach house. I hope you'll keep us in the loop as you have this adventure. I would love to have my own place at the beach, but am not sure how often I could get there with the farm, so I can enjoy your adventure, eh? details welcome and encouraged!

Missy, I have been evilly thinking that a pool would fit in Greg's workshop. You only need enough room to walk around it, not a big room, and the workshop could be made a little larger. Forgive me, Greg.
I will be afraid to come to NY if I don't stop encouraging LOL perhaps I will change my name and Greg will never know who was behind the pool-push.

I made an impulse buy on eBay a few days ago - an old Tiffany plat. eternity band that has a 14 day return policy. It comes in the old beat up box & pouch from a very high volume 100% seller, so fingers crossed.
This is what happens. Someone mentioned Tiffany, so I had to go hunting.
All this DBL excitement sent me to his website to look around and drool [hate that word]. PS is a great place to get IDEAS. haha

Today is Art Roundtable day again. We are doing some printmaking in my friend's studio which should be a blast. Play.

I hope everyone is having nice weather today for a beautiful Sunday!

ps. I wonder how universal the Old Cut popularity is. The jeweler [ the one with the wonky appraiser] buys them and has them recut to RB!
need I say CRIMINAL???

edit - Missy I love your photos. What gives? Do you only know cute people?!?!
just think back - I'll bet WE never shrieked.
a bike ride with the sound of ocean waves - it's like dreaming awake. Lovely.

Gorgeous photos and gorgeous niece and did I say Greg was a looker too? Missy, bad girl, keep your Bea safe. :rodent: It would only get worse if I let Sapphie wear my necklaces. :naughty:

Missy can we see pix of your dresses and info pleasie?

Can you girls enlighten me please what an endless pool is, I feel that I keep missing info.

Jimmianne, please do share your band once you get it, we love eye candy. Hope you are not upset about this FB thing and that all is in order, mine is.

Hi Junebug and Callie. I want to go shopping with you Callie. That is a given and then we go out and eat. We would like Kristie and all the other girls join us too, Marcy come on too.

Junebug it sounds to me like your ring will have nice finger coverage but of course you have to see that IRL because it totally depends on the person. I am very excited for you!

I want to write more girls but I have the mother of all headaches today, I am literally dying here unable to do anything and have so much to do. I am sure my hormones are acting up badly, it seems that as I get older they get way worse. I am practically unable to function from them, I could really use a nice massage today.

Tomorrow is work of course and let me tell you I definitely do not feel like it. I also do not feel like sitting home but I could use some rest. I tried napping today which I had not been able to do in about 6 months and I was finally able to take a half an hour nap until my mother woke me up, of course in the crappy mood that she has been in lately.

Have a great weekend everyone, hugs to you all.

Hi Girls

Missy, I know exactly what you mean by your nieces being wild at this age. My brothers girls always would act up something awful when we would go out shopping together. The two older cousins were the absolute worst. I remember my nephew saying to me that he was embarrassed to even be seen with them and he was younger. The rough housing was the absolute worst. The shrieking didn't bother me as much. The two girls once knocked over four racks of prom dresses in a store. It was like watching dominos fall in slow motion. I seriously could have killed the two of them and then die of embarrassment. They were the ages your nieces are and were certainly old enough to know better. Believe me there were days I was glad I got to go back home to my nice quiet house after I dropped them off. I do miss them being that age at times though. I miss all those belly laughs when they couldn't stop laughing.

I got up early this morning and planted all the plants in pots. They look so pretty but I have a feeling I will be sore tomorrow. Moving iron erns is pretty rough. I have no upper body strength at all.

Isnt it great when you take a chance and order dresses and they actually fit nice. They sound really cute. I bought a dress while shopping with my niece at Forever 21 of all places. It's just a longer tee shirt dress with 3/4 length sleeves, You know you are in one of those stores when there is practally no difference in sizing for the small, medium and large. I had to laugh, I had three women come up to me and ask where I purchased the dress yesterday. It was all of $15 dollars. I'm glad I bought a couple of them because they will probably fall apart once they are washed. My niece ended up getting a lace dress to wear for the wedding. It was a simple sleeveless shift dress that looked great in her. She wanted a pink one but it was back ordered until mid June so she ended up getting it in black. Now we have to go shoe shopping for her.

Junebug, I'm with Missy. Thursday is too long of a wait for your ring. The suspense is killing us. Why isn't he overnighting it to you? I'm sure you will love it. If you love it in the photo, I'm sure it will be much prettier in person. I don't like photos of my rings but love them in person. Pictures just don't do diamonds justice. I'm so excited for you. I also like that it's a pear. It will look so pretty on your hand.

OV, I'm sorry you are dealing with headaches. I used to get awful headaches all the time when I was your age. My bosses could tell by looking at me when they would start. The only thing I can tell you is I got them less frequently once I hit menopause. It was the only good thing about it. Do you have anything you can take that works for the pain? I hope tomorrow your day at work isn't as bad as you are expecting.

Marcy, I hope everything is okay and you have just been busy. I miss you!

Kristie, What are you doing today?

Jimmianne, The jeweler I frequent often has told me all OEC's are basically junk. I looked at him, smiled and said I was surprised he felt that way because I find them stunning and hope to get one for myself. I think the reason they say this is because they don't have them in their stores. He also made the comment that they have recut a few. They act as though hearts and arrows are the most beautiful things on the planet. I have never longed for a hearts and arrows diamond but am dying for an OEC.

Hi Callie! Can you show us a pic of your new dress(es), I love these fun buys too. I want new dresses badly but am holding off on them for the moment. I also want to have a lot of other type of fun in life and right now you know what I am going through costs a lot. Also, I really want to make some new projects and dying for a diamond ring pretty much. But even I would be buying at that price for sure, I just badly want yellow dresses to go with my yellow diamonds and the ones I have seen are high end.

Hmm, I think the overall sentiment has changed about old cuts for the most part, they used to be recut but now the good ones are not. Old cuts are popular here at auctions but the problem is that you rarely see those gorgeous OECs that I see on PS and if I did, I would fall head over heels. Nevertheless I have seen some amazing warm fancy cuts that were old cuts at auction and they were unfortunately not within my price range. I would have loved to own them.

I do like modern ideals I cannot say I do not but they do not have the personality of old cuts to me and also if they are modern I want them in fancy colors or lower, warmer colors, those stones to me have more personality. Not sure what happened to me as I used to be such a high white person and I still find them beautiful but perhaps not for me personally.

Yes, I get debilitating headaches, like I have blurry vision and terrible pain and feel knocked out from hormones, I also get every other symptom much worse as I get older not that it was ever light for me. Hopefully tomorrow will be an ok day. Maybe even good. I am a bit nervous about a project that was just done for work but we shall see.

Already planning next weekend, may go to Budapest after a long time to a girls' night out and to meet some people the next day. I cannot say it would be bad.

Congrats on the dress your niece got. Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Lovely weather is coming our way this week.

Happy Sunday!

Missy, I should look for some of that allergy medicine. We’ve had some rain the last few days so the pollen must be down today. I can almost breathe out of one side of my nose. Marty ended up picking up the alcohol for the party so he forgot to look for Freakshow. I guarantee that will be included in a Christmas gift for our friends. I hope you had a nice ride at the beach house and talked Greg in to staying overnight.

Ovi, I think the intermediate salsa class would work great for you; you’ll find more experienced partners and I bet they’ll all be delighted to help you. I know you enjoy it so I hope you keep going.

Jimmianne, uploading virus should be pursed and prosecuted. I got one about 10 years ago that corrupted every executable on the computer. So once we opened a program it quit working. That was in the days when a lot of software was installed off floppy disks so if you tried to reinstall the program your install disks were corrupted as well. Most places sold us new copies at a discounted price. Those PB cups look delicious.

Junebug, I can’t wait to see your new pear ring. How exciting. I think the spinel will look fabulous in a halo ring too. I will be anxious to hear what you think of the beach house. We went from a smallish place (for us) to a place larger than we needed but we like the space especially for company or parties. I am glad to hear your mom is doing okay. I think the same way about being a golf widow; I can always find something to do and Marty enjoys it so I’m okay with it. One of Marty’s golf buddies has a wife who doesn’t think that way. Poor guy had to stay home from golf yesterday because she wanted him to do something. I am sure Marty was as thrilled as your husband when I started to like larger and more expensive jewelry. He was very hesitant when I bought my diamond from Whiteflash but after seeing the diamond he didn’t say a work when I ordered a band and studs from them. I am sure your son will figure out what he wants to do sometimes it takes some trial and error to see what you like to do and what you don’t.

Callie, I hate when one of my favorite characters get killed off in a series. I only watch a few shows but the ones I like I faithfully watch and enjoy them. Glad you had a nice time shopping and that your niece found a dress. It sounds like your husband needs a weekend of golf and I am sure you’ll enjoy working on your pots. Yes, I can join you and Junebug as a golf widow. Your former neighbor sounds fun. I had a busy weekend but I was thinking of you ladies.

LLJsmom,, I do remember Blade Runner, Marty had it on TV a few weeks ago. What is said is right on the money; you have to keep building on your knowledge and skills and you will eventually find what you want to do with your life. The old saying is enjoy your job and you’ll never work a day in your life.

Kristie, I am glad your finger is better today. I can see why you love pears; your pear is gorgeous. I don’t have a pear in a ring at all; I must remedy that someday. That is awesome you got a discount on Freakshow and there is a game to play with it. Great idea. Marty didn’t look for any when he stopped at the liquor store yesterday; he was stocking up on beer this time. I completely understand having indoor pools in Alaska. Marty sure enjoyed swimming a few times on our visit down there.

We had a busy weekend. Friday night I realized I hadn’t done my astronomy newsletter yet so I worked on that and get it posted; it was still May 1st but just more towards the end of the day.

Yesterday my sister and BIL came to town to pick up her benitoite ring and we went out for lunch. After golf Marty and I made some stuff to take to a cribbage tournament and then watch the fight. Sadly I took 3rd in the cribbage tournament and was bored watching the fight but we had a fun time. My friend’s sister had her 3-month-old baby girl there; she is a cutie. She is a happy baby and never fussed at all even when she got tired.

Today I slept in and did my dreaded grocery shopping. I am working on laundry and wishing there was one more day this weekend.
s
Take care.
Marcy

Here is a picture of my sister's new ring. It's a .37 ct benitoite cut by Barry at acstones.com. She picked a setting from Stullers and I had my benchman here in town order the ring and mount her gemstone. She is very happy with it. It is a nice bright blue color; similar to tanzanite.

Marcy I love the benitoite ring!!! Are you *sure* that belongs to your sister???? There are some good Stuller settings to be had, I have their crown setting for my 12-mm 4 Peaks round. Glad you and Marty are doing well! We killed a Freakshow yesterday.

Glad everyone is chugging along.

Kristie, yes my sister took her ring home with her yesterday. It is a pretty and lively gemstone. I like you can look up the stalker settings from home then just get your benchman to order it in for you. Yay for killing a bottle of Freakshow yesterday. It is good wine.

Missy, how sweet Greg wants to look into getting you the pool right away! I was thinking the same thing as Jimmianne, maybe it could be incorporated somehow into the new garage/workshop. :read: It would be so wonderful if this works out!

You made me laugh with the description of your nieces! I remember when my kids were that age and so full of energy (aka wild and really, really noisy :cheeky: ) - by about 7 at night I'd be saying to myself I can't wait until these kids are in bed! :D Your caption on the pic of your niece wearing your OEC made me laugh too - it looks good on her! Love the pics, both your niece and Greg look great.

Oooh Jimmianne, a Tiffany band! Very exciting! Would love to see pics when you get it, sounds like a great find.

Ovi, so sorry about your headache, so frustrating, especially when you have things to do. I occasionally get really bad sinus headaches and I think it's due to hormones. Is there anything you can take? Over the counter meds help me a little.

I hope you're feeling better by tomorrow and work goes well for you!

I smiled when I read you want to buy some yellow outfits to match your diamonds. I've been thinking today I need to get some yellow tops to match my ring haha!

Oh, here's a website that shows what an endless pool is - it's basically a treadmill for swimming lol!
http://endlesspools.com

Calliecake, I think the hold-up on my ring is because I'm having it sized, which I hope wasn't a mistake because if I return the ring I have to pay for the sizing - but I didn't want to worry about having it sized myself and I thought it would be best if DBL did it. Hopefully I like this ring!

The dresses you bought sound adorable! I really need to find some casual dresses for the summer, they're so comfortable and easy.

Marcy, thanks for sharing that you and Marty went up in size with your new house, that makes me feel like my reasoning makes sense and makes me feel better about considering this house.

Glad you had a chance to get together with your sister and BIL this weekend. Wow, her ring is gorgeous!!! As I was reading your post I was hoping you'd include a pic, and there it was. :D What a lovely color, and that setting is really pretty. Barry has such beautiful stones.

Yeah, these weekends fly by, don't they? Can't believe it's almost Monday already.

Kristie, thank you! I'm making every effort to handle this the right way, I have to remind myself this is not the end of the world and things will eventually work out.

Hope everyone had a great weekend, see you all tomorrow!

Hi NIRDIs.

Once again I missed several posts when I responded earlier.

Missy your niece is adorable. You are setting her standards high for rings and diamonds.

Jimmianne, a Tiffany platinum band sounds fabulous. I am anxious to see it. I think my Tiffany band is my favorite ring but I really like channel set bands so I also have a WF .55 ctw band that I switch back and forth a few weeks at a time. Marty wants me to buy another Tiffany band and have it made in to my ering so I'd have a matching set. I don't think I'd like having 8mm of band on my finger. It's the only piece of jewelry I've ever put on my hand and immediately said "we'll take it". Marty was stunned.

Ovi, I hope you sleep well tonight and your headache is better tomorrow.

Callie, I can't imagine the noise and mess of your nieces knocking over those racks of dresses. It's a good story to tell now though, right? It is interesting how jewelers are so snobby and disinterested about things they really don't know anything about. I used to argue with them now I just smile and move along.

Junebug, here are some of the thoughts that went through our minds when we were deciding to move. Our old house was 1100 sq feet and an unfinished basement. We used one of our 3 bedrooms as our den / computer room. Once Marty started working at home he hated being in there because the living room with all of his "toys" were in sight. Even if we finished that basement he would have hated it down there because we had egress windows down there so there wasn't any sunlight ever coming in. He wanted a walkout basement with high ceilings. Our dining room table made out to 52 x 36 inches so we could only have 4 people over for a meal and we were crowded then (summers were okay we had a very decent sized patio). The second bedroom had a twin bed and was right next to our bedroom so it limited company and was weird if we did have someone in there. We had our current house built and debated between 2 plans, one with 1600 sq feet on the main floor or one with 2100 sq feet. We each voted by room which one we preferred and ended up going with the larger plan. Marty's office downstairs is made out of 1 1/2 bedrooms and it is right by his huge man cave and kitchenette. The 2 spare bedrooms upstairs are on a different side of the house so we tell people we have a guest wing for them. We have a den upstairs where we could put a bed in too if we had a crowd. The basement doesn't have any beds but there is plenty of space down there for sleepovers. We went from too small to too big but I like having the extra space. There are dresser drawers and closets that are empty in here. That certainly wasn't the case at our old house. It was a good move financially too (I hope) because we'd been in our old place 17.5 years so we ended up getting more out of it than we owed enabling us to pay off unsecured debt completely and even with a higher house payment our monthly bills went down. Of course now that my parents are gone Marty would love to move to a warmer climate so he can play golf all the time but I think we need to stay here awhile so we don't walk away with nothing or even owing something. Also we will face retirement with a house payment rather than living somewhere for decades and paying it off. So time will tell if it was a smart move for us or not. I imagine a beach house will hold it's value so it is probably a good investment. The housing market here continues to rise and we don't have kids or pets that might do damage to our house so I can't imagine we'd take a loss on this house but it is always hard to say. Right now I am pretty happy we decided to go for it. Sorry if that was TMI but I remember all the thoughts and discussions we had a few years ago. Our lot and walkout basement worked out great for angles too; we don't have a single egress window well and our back yard is perfectly flat. Marty picked the lot well.

I think I'm going to bed soon. I'm am very tired which is abnormal for me. I am guessing it's stupid allergies.

Have a great Monday.
Marcy

Good morning NIRDIs!

Jimmianne ooh la la a Tiffany band. Cannot wait till you get it and hope it lives up to your expectations.

Junebug, that makes sense but can't they size it more quickly? I mean it takes a short time to resize and then ship overnight. Tell David to make it happen. I hate waiting. :cheeky: But well I guess the anticipation can be good too...have I mentioned how excited I am to see this pear on your lovely hand? :appl:

When are you going to see the new beach house? Is it this upcoming weekend? I think I am even more excited about this possibility of a new beach house than your new bling. Am I a bad PSer? It's just the thought of a beautiful new beach home near the beach and with a pool is so exciting. Wishing this house is everything you want it to be and that it works out for you! :appl:

Jimmianne and Junebug, Oh if only the pool could go in Greg's workshop to be but unfortunately his workshop is hardly big enough for his needs. We cannot go as big for his workshop as what he had at the old beach house because there just isn't enough room and no full basement. At the old beach house the whole double garage was his workshop as the whole huge basement was as well. Now his workspace (due to space and aesthetics) will only be about 12 by 24 so not enough space at all. But thanks for that suggestion because it would have been a great one if it would have been a large enough workshop.

Callie, I know kids are boisterous and that's cool with me and I enjoy that much of the time but my nieces are very rough with me when they are playing but I know it's because they love me they can be that way with me but still. I often am a bit bruised when I come home from visiting them.

I do agree the endless laughter is very nice and I love laughing. Visiting them never disappoints that way. Oh to be a kid without any real responsibilities is very nice but I don't think one appreciates it till there is something to compare it to if you kwim.

I wonder if we could go back knowing what we know and got to relive some of our childhood how different we would view it looking at it through a different perspective...still no interest in going back because I like the "freedom" that comes with being an adult but still it would be interesting to relive some of it and view it through our adult eyes knowing what we know.

I'm glad you finished potting the plants Callie. I was disappointed because when we got to the beach house yesterday Julio had not planted the trees in the backyard as promised. He was supposed to do that this past Friday so Greg is going to call and see what happened. I need privacy in the backyard and since the gardener cut the big grasses down to enable them to grow back it is too exposed on that side. I fully expect our neighbor will be unhappy about that but I believe that privacy is important as much as we can do anyway in the backyard since we are all pretty exposed back there. Most people have nothing for privacy and it leaves me scratching my head as to why more people don't plant more for a screen at least but I know nobody wants to block any of the water view still IMO there has to be a happy medium.

Your dress buys sound great and very practical too. I love a good deal and I find with summer dresses one doesn't have to spend a fortune to look good yanno? Plus with our tastes frequently changing it is nice to be able to make some relatively inexpensive purchases whenever we want to. It's funny how we get compliments on sometimes the least expensive clothing lol. Your niece's dress sounds perfect. I love a simple sleeveless shift and you cannot go wrong with black.

Ovi, I hope your headache is all gone this morning. That is tough dealing with debilitating headaches especially given everything else you are handling at the moment. Are you eating frequently enough? I know for me if my blood sugar drops I get a headache and in fact when I was in nursery and kindergarten I had special treatment re school snacks in that I had to get one every couple of hours to prevent those headaches while everyone else only had one snack during the school day. Just mentioning this in case your blood sugar has something to do with the headaches and worth considering.

What did you end up doing yesterday? I hope you relaxed and just enjoyed being off work and having the day to yourself. We watched the movie Julia last night with Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda. It had rave reviews on Netflix but I didn't love it. It was a little slow but we enjoyed watching Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave. They were both very good in the movie. Based on a true story so it should have been more compelling but it wasn't for me.

What does your workweek look like? Anything special happening? Are you still enjoying pink Sapphie? What other projects do you have coming in the next couple of months? I am very interested in any new jewelry plans you may have.

Please get yourself a different Salsa partner and yes consider a different class altogether. I like the intermediate class suggestion.

Thanks Junebug for sharing the link with Ovi. Ovi here is a pic I will attach of one of the endless pools they have on their website. A small one will probably cost as much as a family size car (says that on their website but I am waiting for a quote). My main concern is if the third floor will support the weight and if it cannot I cannot get one. So I am hoping it will support the weight because it would be amazing if we could get a pool. Not now but in the future because I really want Greg to get his workshop. Big problem is Greg was reading through the minutes of the zoning board meetings and it looks like they ruled against anything that needed a variance so we are concerned. We need several variances (3) to get what we want and where we want it. Sigh. Who knew this zoning board was so freakin difficult. ::)

Please share anything new with you and what your plans are Ovi. :wavey:

Marcy, thanks for the detailed write up of your thoughts when you purchased you bigger home. You guys did everything right. Especially having the guest bedrooms not on top of the master. It is weird having guests right next to your bedroom.

I love the ring you got for your sister. Beautiful and I love the color of that gem.

Haha I agree with you. We need a few more days in each weekend. I mean I have them but Greg doesn't and it is not as good when you don't have someone to be your partner in crime with on extended weekends. I wouldn't be in such a hurry for Greg to retire if he could do 3 day workweeks yanno? But that is not to be and in fact it looks like my wishes for a possible earlier retirement is impossible. Darn, why couldn't we have all been born filthy rich. ;( :rodent:

How are you feeling this morning? I am sorry your allergies are being such a pain and I have to say that the allergy meds I am taking help a lot but not totally. I think this is a very bad allergy season. I suggest trying something for relief and though it won't be perfect it will be helpful at least somewhat and provide a rest from the sneezing/sniffling/coughing/breathing and exhaustion you are dealing with due to allergies.

Sadly no we didn't get to stay overnight at the beach house but enjoyed a great Sunday cycling by the ocean. It was over way too fast however. :((

Glad you slept in a bit Sunday and got all your errands finished at least!

Kristie, glad you killed a Freakshow yesterday lol. Sounds like a painless way to go. We bought some wine this past Friday at Costco liquor in Brooklyn. We got 6 bottles of white and a few bottles of my favorite Moscato- Bartenura Moscato. We don't drink much wine or Moscato but it is good to have on hand for guests. Didn't see the Freakshow but when we have the opportunity to go shopping for more liquor I will definitely keep it on my to buy list.

Any plans happening this week? All I can think of is in sunny Arizona almost every day feels like vacation lol. Sun, lovely warm weather and the pool and you cannot go wrong. :sun:

Missy, I see what you're saying about the workshop, makes sense. I did a quick google search and found this on the Endless pool website:

"Locating an Endless Pool above ground floor requires the review of a professional engineer to ensure that the upper-floor room has the structural integrity to support the weight of an Endless Pool.

Endless Pools highly recommends that both the pool and Water Quality System be located near a floor drain or that a sump pump be installed. In addition, the area surrounding the pool should be protected and appropriate floor and wall covering materials utilized."

So, I'm thinking a pool on the upper floor sounds doable! I included the second part, I think something could be figured out with regard to that. I understand that you want to focus on the workshop right now, just wanted to pass on what I read. It would be very cool if this could work out!

Fingers crossed that everything falls into place with the variances.

I know, I'm anxious to get this ring too!!! - I'm feeling pretty good about it right now, I think I'm going to like it. I'm thinking it might be ready sooner, but I'll be at my mother's Tuesday and Wednesday - but if my son is around he can sign for it. David said he'd call when they ship it out so we'll see.

I'm so glad you're excited about this house missy! It makes me feel I'm not being foolish by going up in size at this point in our lives lol. At some point we'll have to downsize I guess, I can't picture us being 80 and living there, but we're not 80 yet so why not live it up a little while we can? Lately I've been feeling a little sentimental - I mentioned losing touch with dh's family, but I've also lost touch with a few of my family members, and it would be nice to reconnect and I think having a place with enough room to host people comfortably will be really nice.

This is going to be a short trip - we're getting there this Thursday afternoon and will be home late Saturday night. I wanted to be home by Sunday, since it's Mother's Day - I'm going to my mother's and spending the day and night. But even a quick getaway will be fun, it will be nice to spend some time with dh.

Marcy, thanks so much for sharing your thought processes about buying a larger house - it was extremely helpful to me - as I said to missy, it makes me feel like I'm not being ridiculous for thinking about it! It's a big decision, I totally get that there are lots of factors to think about. You should hear the conversations dh and I have been having these past few weeks! Lots of things to consider. It really sounds like it was the right move for you and Marty, you and he sound very comfortable and happy in your home, and that's very important. I guess a person could spend months weighing the pros and cons, but at the end of the day sometimes you just have to go with your gut and do what feels right. I can't help but think you will make money on your current house when the time comes to sell. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hope everyone is having a good Monday! Will check in later!

Hi Girls,

Missy, So glad you and Greg were able to enjoy the day cycling yesterday. I know how much you wanted to get cycling in this past weekend. I would also check with a realtor regarding resale if you add a pool. There are quite a few built in pools in our neighborhood and I know one of the houses that sold, the new owners filled in the pool with dirt and landscaping

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you regarding the garage/workshop for Greg. I'm trying to wrap my head around them giving you a hard time about putting a garage in while one of your neighbors has a pool in the front yard. Do you have any plans for the week?

Junebug, I really don't think you can go wrong with the larger home. You kids will marry one day and have children of their own. I can't think of anything more perfect than having a beach house that would be large enough for everyone to stay. Just think of the memories you could make there for you, your children and future grandchildren. As you can tell, I wouldn't think twice about it if it isn't going to hurt you financially. Beachfront property will always be highly sought after from a resale perspective. Are property taxes high in that area? Close friends of ours say their retirement home will be large because she is sure her kids will end up living in different cities. She wants a large home that everyone can come home to for the holidays with their families. I can't wait for your ring to arrive! I think you are going to love it.

Marcy, Your killing me with empty closet space. I would love another closet. Did you have a nice time with your sister? Her new ring is lovely. It's nice that your sister is also interested in jewelry. My nieces now laugh about all the dresses falling over and how they had to pick them all up. It wasn't funny at the time. Their biggest fear at the time was that I was going to take them home and tell their parents what they had done. I didn't, but we had a long talk about their behavior.

OV, I hope your headache is gone today. I know how miserable they are. I also had a terrible one last night and was up most of the night with it. Thank goodness it feels better now. I second everyone else's feelings about getting a new dance partner. This is supposed to be enjoyable for you. It's a little hard to have fun if you are feeling creeped out by your partner.

Kristie, How is Finn feeling today? Is he getting around better today? We found a solution to the wedding problem. The wedding begins at noon with the reception starting at 6:30 PM. My husband is going to the wedding and then coming home. He will still be gone about 7 hours due to travel but won't spend the night. He seems very happy with this idea.

Jimmianne, Have you made a decision regarding the airline for your trip to Paris? Are you looking forward to your trip? I'm a home body too and overseas trips just don't appeal all that much to me. I know I would have a wonderful time once I was there. It's the getting there that would be the problem for me. My old bosses wife told me I would feel completely different once I shopped in the Paris boutiques. I imagine I could do a lot of damage there. You will have to let us know if they have fabulous jewelry stores.

Callie, you are giving all sorts of ideas today : )
Still in process with tickets, but should be resolved by this evening.

My little Tiffany band came already! He must have practically overnighted it. I am most relieved - in the photos one diamond looked chipped, but he insisted it was in excellent condition for it's age, and it is. [The hallmark looks like the 70's or 80's]. It's really beautiful - very thin [2mm] and sparkly.
p1140707.jpg

Now back to reality... that's mowing & weeding.

will check in later!

Jimmianne, This band is beautiful. How in the world did I miss you getting a new ring???

Junebug, thanks for much for doing that research. We will need to get a structural engineer because we have no clue how to figure out how much weight per square foot that 3rd floor can hold. I appreciate your help and enthusiasm for my desire for this pool. We NIRDIs stick together and I like it. :appl:

And I think upgrading your beach home is not crazy at all. As you said it can be a place for your family to enjoy and host GTGs with family and friends and I agree we have to live and enjoy in the here and now. I think it's a very smart idea and I hope it works out for you guys! I am sending good vibes for a successful trip!

And this waiting is killing me re the DBL ring but I know it will be worth it. Cmon David, hurry it up please. We need the bling. :boohoo:

Grace put the "pad" ring you had been considering in her jewel journal today. It's pretty but I agree with Kristie re that ring and think you made the right choice. Gosh she has some gorgeous jewels in the journal today. I so wish we had endless money lol.

Callie, thanks for your good wishes and I hope so too. Greg really needs this workspace and I would be so upset if we cannot have it built. I was saying the same thing to him. How can our neighbors have pools in the front yards, garages right up to the street etc. and he said he is planning to take pics and present it to the board when the time comes. However he said not to get my hopes up as the board can do whatever they want. Grrrr. :nono:

As for a pool many people don't want the hassle of dealing with a pool believe it or not. But the endless pool you can just take apart so that's not a big issue with that.

No special plans the rest of the week besides work. How about you?

Jimmianne, I dub thee queen of deals. That is one beautiful band. I love it. Please take a family photo with Joy. Pretty please. Oh and it would be lovely if Puff could get in there too...:halo: No pressure now. Only if you have time and he cooperates. I can wait there is no rush. And I hope your mowing and weeding are going well. You rule Jimmianne. :appl:

Hi NIRDIs!

Missy, I must be a bad PS’er too because I’d be more excited about moving to a beach house than I would be to get a ring. Okay, I’d like both of them but still beach houses are awesome! Do your nieces like to rough house with Greg too? When my nieces were young Marty was their jungle gym; they adored him. I was just “aunt Marcy”. We sure do like our new house so I am pretty sure it was a good call. Enjoy like while you can, right? It is nice having room for guests. My sister loves her ring; she is so excited to get it. I was glad to find the stone on Barry’s website because I know he does a nice job cutting gems. I know exactly what you mean about retiring; this working for a living can really crimp our style; plus it we were stinking rich we could buy new bling every week. My allergies are a little better today thank you. I am delighted to hear you had a nice ride on Sunday. I hope they approve Greg’s workspace. We have to get any outside changes or additions approved with our HOA too and I wonder what kind of a hassle that will be.

Junebug, I bet you are very excited and anxious to get your ring on your finger. It seems to take forever when you are waiting for something like that. It’s funny you mentioned upsizing rather than downsizing a house. We knew quite a few people downsizing when we were buying our new house. That’s life though it is constantly changing. One criteria we had for the house we bought was it had to be big enough for family GTG and having friends over. I will be anxious to hear what you guys think of the beach house but getting away for a few days will be nice too. I agree deciding to buy a new place is a big decision but I always follow what my gut tells me too. I am excited for you.

Callie, I work at not filling up those empty spaces; we threw out a lot of stuff when we moved and I decided I was going to be better about not keeping things I don’t like or use. That should be a summer project to throw out more stuff. I did have a nice visit with my sister; she is very happy with her ring. She emailed me today that all the ladies she works with liked it. I am sure knocking over the dresses wasn’t funny at the time but you were a good aunt talking to them and not telling their parents. I taught me nephews to scream on carnival rides because “it makes them more fun”. My sister and BIL loved me for that one. That is great you’ve found a solution to being able to go to the wedding.

Jimmianne, your Tiffany band is beautiful. I need to go check Ebay more often. You find such great deals and beautiful rings.

We are finally slowing down at work to a manageable workload. Next week I’m putting our newer employee who is painfully slow with someone else to see if she can pick up some time saving tips and fill in some gaps. If she isn’t better in a month I told my boss today I am going to request he find someone else and move her to a different department. My senior employee is going to be out on paternity leave for about 6 weeks next fall when we are busy so I need someone who knows what they are doing. We are slow through August so that gives us all some time to see if she improves.

Marty made chicken alfredo for supper. I am allergic to chicken but can eat small amounts with food allergy medicine. I think I took too much though it is really buzzing me and my lips keep tingling. Weird. But having chicken for dinner was worth it. Mmm. I only took 4 little strips of chicken though.

We are going to have daily thunderstorms for a few weeks here and cooler temperatures. Hopefully no more snow though.

Take care.
Marcy

Oh no! Jimmianne, Ebay has the Tiffany Etoile band in platinum in my size. Must resist impulse buying. . .

Marcy and Jimmianne, would your share the ebay link or store name? I'm new to ebay and there are so many jewelry listings, its daunting!!!! Don't worry, my fingers are bigger than yours!!!!

LOL

I'm sorry I posted about eBay and Tiffany : (
I hate to encourage this madness!
that said...here's the store LOL
http://stores.ebay.com/primevaluejewelryandantiques/

Half asleep. We have plane tickets ...finally! after a long "too late at night for a farmer" conversation.
I have the farrier here all morning tomorrow, then an orthodontist appt a couple of towns away, so will not be around, but I hope everyone has a good evening and a good day tomorrow!

Thank you!!! I posted in your airline thread, re NYT/Paris and safety.

LOL Kristie! You can help me out by buying things before I do. Here is a filtered down link to Tiffany Rings: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...RC3.A0.H0.Xtif.TRS1&_nkw=tiffany&_sacat=67725

I actually just sent my jewelry consultant at Whiteflash an email about 2 EC diamonds for my earrings. They are only around .4 carats each but face up 5.21 x 3.6 but I think they'll be perfect for earrings. :appl: I just don't want to spend a lot on occasional wear earrings.

Jimmianne, how exciting you bought your tickets. One step closer to Paris. :wavey:

Hi Girls,

Congrats on all these rings, wow, spring is here and bling is hot. :appl: :rodent: Did you get the ring Marcy? I could not see which one you actually got, I have a link to all the listings Sotheby's has on ebay.

Kristie how are you? Long time no talk, I miss you girlfriend.

Jimmianne, wow, so you really are coming to Europe. Awesome. I think you will have a wonderful time. It surely would be nice to meet. I love your band, I am a sucker for just the perfect dainty and well made eternity bands. In fact I want one myself badly too and that is actually an option to make one. You are giving me ideas. I think this would tie me over until I can get my larger diamond. Although eternities are dainty, they have such a presence albeit being feminine and delicate. I always loved tennis bracelets too, an eternity and my tennis bracelet would look beautiful together too.:))) Like I said there are some bad enabler girls around here. :rodent:

Marcy .4 is a really good size in my opinion, of course you can always halo them too to have a larger look, ECs would look beautiful in dangles IMHO but studs are always nice too.

Workday today so going pretty soon but I did want to drop by and say hi to everyone.

Hot Spring Bling
love it.

So, this is where all the Bad Girls hang out? you know, those enablerladies?
Not that anyone here needs much encouragement...

can't wait to see photos of incoming bling

Good morning girls!

Jimmianne, woohoo plane tickets are in hand. :appl: So exciting! Love Paris. Good luck at the orthodontist today and with all your other appointments. Are you wearing your Tiffany band with Joy today?

Marcy, sorry your weather is cool with thunderstorms but as long as the snow stays away!

Glad work is more manageable but yikes on the newer employee who cannot hold their own with your other employee going on paternity leave. Hope it all works out. Speaking of paternity leave do you think it is unreasonable to take maternity/paternity leave if one gets a new kitty or puppy to bond with the new furbaby during his/her formative months? :Up_to_something: :cheeky:

What is the allergen in chicken that causes your reaction? Is it in any other type of meat or other food? IDK I would stay away from whatever food I was allergic to because the potential reaction is worrisome. I mean only 4 strips caused that tingling and that was with the allergy medicine. Not to be an overly concerned momma here but please be cautious. There are meat substitutes like tempeh and seitan that even a meat lover like Greg enjoys. Our favorite vegan restaurant makes amazing dishes with these substitutes so just saying there are other options if you love chicken but it doesn't love you...

http://www.peta.org/living/food/meat-replacements/

OMG new emerald cut diamond earrings for Marcy! YAY! I cannot wait for you to get these Marcy. I love emerald cut diamonds and I think the size you chose for earrings will be perfect. Elegant, classic and timeless.

Kristie, haha be careful or you might spend hours on end (as I do for one hehe) searching ebay and wanting more bling than any person needs or can even wear within a reasonable time period even with rotating every day...be careful the addiction takes hold very quickly.

How is Finn feeling today Kristie? I am sending hugs and love his way and hope he is 100% A-OK today!

Junebug, any word or update on the pear ring? Your trip is in just 2 days and I am looking forward to you seeing the new beach house. We sort of upgraded our beach house as well come to think of it but that was for the future when we move there permanently and sell Brooklyn so really an upgrade for a future downgrade going to one home only but it has some similarities. And of course as you know I am feeling a bit ambivalent about the permanent move but no one can predict the future and living in the present and being in the moment is a valuable quality so one can enjoy their lives right now. Fingers crossed the house is everything you guys want it to be.

Callie, What are your plans for the day? It's another pretty day here and supposed to hit 80 degrees today. That's warmer than normal for this time of year. Hope you are enjoying some lovely weather too. :wavey:

Hi Ovi, Sharon, Sarah and LLJsmom, have a good day. :wavey:

Enjoy the morning and see you all later and I'm with Jimmianne, looking for all the hot spring incoming NIRDI bling. :appl:

Missy, yay!!!
of course I had to check in here before heading out.

Joy and T-band are DEF. going to the orthodontist. The gals there are blingers to say the least. I love them all - handsome young orthodontist and his five beautiful goddesses. I always feel as though I'm in a story from Greek mythology set in a jewelry store : )
Well, back to reality... or maybe not. :loopy:
