((I am cross listing this from Rocky Talk, I hope you don't mind))

OK I just gave up on the internet search. As new as I am to this I want to see things in person, at least to start out. It's hard to figure out what I want with internet photos, quantitative info sets and CAD renderings. Almost all of the pics just look so prefab to me! I was set on an Ann McKay/Caleb Meyer piece because of the personal artisan feel, but my fiancee had a strong negative reaction to them

Can anyone recommend any New York City jewelry designers, jewelers and/or diamond district stores they've had good experiences with? I am looking for a simple but charismatic (is that a thing?) yellow gold sapphire e-ring in the area of 1600-1800 (aka not above 2000).

Definitely go to ID Jewelers. They give excellent service to PSer's (tell them you're from PS), and their prices are excellent. They have lots of already set pieces, but since you want something very specific, I would call or email them a day or so before you go, so they can pull pieces from other jewelers on 47th street. Then they can present you with a range of options. They're very nice.

They do very well with custom pieces, since they can pick out diamonds of excellent cut for your piece, better than a prefab setting. But they have a huge selection of everything.

You can see the sapphire that they just set for me in my recent thread "Blue Sapphire FINALLY Set". I also give a description of working with them. They're just off Fifth Avenue, so if you're walking, come from that direction.

You can also find them on the internet, or ebay, but their selection and prices are even better in person. There are a LOT of sellers on 47th, but personally I can''t tell the good from the bad, so a PS-vetted seller is my preference. If they don't have anything you like, you can ask them for reference to trusted vintage jewelers. Since you want something unique, that might work too.

Finally, a foothold! :) Thank you so much for your reply. I will definitely schedule a visit and post any conclusions.

And can I just say that your finished product is absolutely gorgeous. It was a pleasure reading your thread and very informative as well.
