Hi,
Does anyone know which NYC Diamond District stores sell AGS 0 or Ideal cut stones? I would like to be able to see them in person to determine if it's worth investing my entire search around this 1 criteria. Thanks!

Can you go over to Good Old Gold on Long Island? They have a lot of superior cut stones in-house.

Being Im from NYC, I would see Mark or Chris at Engagement Rings Direct or Yekutiel at ID Jewelry - very well know here on the site and they can get you anything you desire. But I would also add - SH Zell & Sons, the man Steven knows his AGS000/ideal stones and the family is very trustworthy, look up reviews.. to add, they do some amazing custom e-rings if u are interested. (All 3 vendors are in the Diamond District)

I think it will be pretty tough for us to get to LI so just want to make it easier for us. I'm surprised w/all the jewelry stores in the city, none carry AGS diamonds?

I'm sure they all could show some for you if you let them know what you are looking for.

Some popular vendors are IDJewelry, Diamonds by Lauren, Excel Diamonds, James Allen.

There are vastly more GiA graded stones than AGS. But there are hearts and arrows diamonds graded by GIA as well. Few jewelers specialize in top cut quality stones because a lot of people just want the largest stone they can find and care less about cut quality. Good Old Gold just happens to specialize in top cut quality. If you go to ID Jewelry or Engagement Rings Direct, you'll need to call and make an appointment in advance and tell them what you want to see so they can call in stones for you. Usually this is done when one is ready to buy, but you can't expect that they have a selection of ideal cut stones in their stores at all times.

It is just toooooooo easy to tell you that GIA is all you need and to "trust us" we know what we are doing.

I think you will find that many of the consumers here believe after looking long and hard that Cut IS the number one criteria and that if you want an accurately graded cut you will need an AGS report.

Oh I just bought a pair of AGS ideal cut diamonds from James Allen for studs. I can hardly wait to get them now!

Make appt before you go.
Bought my wife engagement ring from them, very happy.

Thank you all so much! Very helpful. I knew there had to be some B&M stores that carried them. I understand they won't necessarily have a wide selection. I just want to see 1 or 2. Wink, I didn't mean to discount the opinions of people here, it's just that seeing is believing. I'm almost convinced cut is king, I just need to be 100% sure the AGS Ideals are everything they're cracked up to be. Plus I've heard so much about it here on PS that my curiosity to see one in person is piqued. Everyone I know emphasizes color & clarity. They think I'm a nut for thinking of cut first & foremost.
