Nyc October 2024 show Gtg?

I think that's who my Georgiana wants to be when she grows up!

Haha! I saved this poem Hancock Jewlers posted on IG earlier this summer, it perfectly sums up what so many of us love about om/oec’s

I like old cuts and I can not lie,
You other jewellers can't deny,
That when an old miner walks in with an itty bitty crown
and a big culet in your face
You get sprung

Sooo many gorgeous things, thank you for sharing! Are the prices better than regular retail/ig/ website?

I feel like I have limited experience! but for some, yes. I tried this bracelet, which was $2,750 in person.

Also sometimes people were willing to haggle a bit - they would make it known. My seller took $300 off my earrings. People selling who came in from a different city with less a strong web or social presence seemed a bit more open. I think they seemed to want to make it worthwhile, but could be flexible on pricing. Other vendors (UK mostly) did not seem open, which is totally understandable. Really a mix of personalities.

All in all a wonderful experience and a rare opportunity to try and see items in person that I’d been stalking online.

Edit: I also hunted a bit. My earrings were a better price than I’d seen online after much searching. I saw a Brazilian company who made lovely, small but substantial bezel-set YG natural diamond tennis bracelets (forgot the carat weight) that were $2K. Me and my friend were both impressed and she was wearing a daintier tennis bracelet. There were plenty of people selling charms for $200, etc…so definitely options!

Oh can you please share dets and price?

I forget the details! The show quite drove things out of my head. A beautiful platinum bracelet with safety chain and clasp. $15K. I still have the seller’s card and info, which I can dig out if anyone wants.

I was just curious! I have no business getting info on more bracelets

That is all very interesting information- thank you for sharing!

I find that retail vendors often give discounts at the show, I'm guessing partially because they don't have to deal with shipping / insurance / return fraud if you are walking away with a piece in hand. And there are also some wholesale vendors (that don't normally sell to public) who will sell at wholesale prices private buyers, or at least a fairly good price compared to retail. And I definitely find stuff at the shows that don't get posted to websites. It is always worth trying to negotiate a price too (definitely if you are buying more than one piece), especially if you can afford to pay in cash/Venmo/Zelle. But you should always do your research beforehand to know if the prices are good or not!

Fun story. I was at the show on Saturday, and saw a vendor (Keyamour) who I had seen at another antique jewelry show in the same venue back in April. I saw that they still had a pair of earrings I had drooled over at that show, so decided to ask about the price. The earrings:

Please allow me to say this photo doesn't do them any justice. Platinum, coral, onyx, diamonds. Exquisite. So the lovely salesperson hauls them out of the case, and I gently ask, how much? Y'all, they wanted ELEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. I thanked her for her time, and ran away in povo shame. Lol!

Absolutely!! Some of the vendors had a vibe of unaffordability, particularly those who carried a lot of branded pieces, and I just steered away from those. But the small vendors can be tough to read. This one really threw me for a loop!

Yeah I’m not seeing 11k in that lol - is it a designer or something?

Nope, just immaculately preserved art deco meets archaeological revival.

The seller has them listed on 1st Dibs for $17,600!

And last but certainly not least, how could I not come home with these beauties that perfectly match my ring? Unexpected, I wasn’t looking for them, but that’s usually when something comes along that’s hard to resist! Edwardian and French-swoooon! (show lighting does not do them justice!)

Thank you!!

Loved the snake ring as well and it’s from one of my favorite dealers that I’ve bought from previously, Roy Rover! The owner Julia is just the sweetest and her prices are very fair. She had various ones….

I had a really nice chat with the Roy Rover folks! And looked at that same crescent pendant! I nearly bought a pair of earrings from them, and told myself I would go back for them Sunday, then talked myself out of it. :(
