Obama Wins!!

You know, I read a transcript on McCain''s speech last night and despite his twisting of Obama''s viewpoints, it wasn''t a poorly written speech...

FACT CHECKER should have a ball with it though. McCain supporters should be embarrassed by this speech for any number of reasons. His campaign may as well have resorted to a canned laugh/boo/applause track because the staged nature of every single "live" response to this pathetic attempt at making a "major speech" was blatantly obvious and very poorly executed. It is hard for me to decide which of the many aspects of McCain''s effort was most disturbing and grating on my nerves. Certainly the doddering old man giggling like a school girl at all of his own lame attempts to clever and humorous would rank up there, but it''s hard to ignore his tactic of repeating the same word or words two or three times for emphasis, or his constant and monotonous repetition of "That''s not change we can believe in", or whatever his exact phrase was. I saw better executed speeches in my 8th grade speech class (never mind how long ago that was) and I am salivating over the thought of Obama debating this man on national TV.

What, maybe 100 people in the crowd? No African Americans, either. In freakin'' New Orleans he has no blacks in the audience? Oh, but you served birthday cake while New Orleans drowned, then voted against Katrina relief.

Also, the GOP caucuses in Montana have delivered a surprise:
Romney 38% Paul 25% McCain 22% Huckabee 15%
Yup, the GOP nominee -- who has been the nominee for what, two months? -- got just 22 percent of the GOP activist vote. He came in third place.

For anyone that missed it, here''s the Anderson Cooper/Donna Brazile exchange from last night:

Oh that is fabulous LP!!!!Thanks for posting that.

Anyone else watching CNN right now?

OK...to avoid another threadjack, does anyone have a suggestion of a more appropriate thread to put the margarita and punch recipes in?

Of course I could put them here, and then everyone would go, "Whooo HOOOO!! Obama WINS!!! Margaritas all around!!" and remember it that way.
2.gif

Perhaps the Family/home thread somewhere? Maybe even start a "Alcoholic Drink Recipe Thread" or "Alcoholic Drink Thread" And then we can all add our recipes!! (Not that I have any, being that BF and I don''t really drink...) But other people probably have some. (You can post it here too though. I''ll remember the Obama Wins! Margaritas! part of it.)

Ooh--I like that idea, Freke! Maybe Kris will let me post his coveted margarita recipe as well, and if I can figure out how much of everything I use, I''ll add my bloody mary recipe.

Yay for drink recipes!

As for Moon''s comment and link on the other page, I just wanted to say that anyone who is supported by Geraldine Ferraro needs to reevaluate their campaign. Seriously. That woman is scary.

Obama''s has at least 3 people in mind for VP according to CNN/AP.

Including Caroline Kennedy.
23.gif
I never would have thought of her.

Wahaaaaa!!! WAIIIIIIIILLLLL!!! ....whimper, sniffle, snork......

I SO want this to be SO OVER! I''m a so blinkin'' sick of hearing about this. And if Obama picks Hillary, then he really IS as inexperienced (and dumb) as some try to portray him. The mere thought of her on his ticket makes me want to cry....

sniff.....eh...eh...eh....

I''m going to avoid the net for awhile now....

I don''t think he will pick Hillary. And the longer she waits to concede, the farther her chances go down the poo hole.

Lookie this: link

"...an inadequate black male..." "Goddamn the Democrats." are among choice quotes from her.

I can''t find any info on him thinking of Caroline, just that she is helping him to select his VP. Can you post a link?

From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/06/04/election.runningmates/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

Here is a list of possible frontrunners:

Evan Bayh: What he lacks in charisma, the telegenic Bayh makes up for in national security credentials, having served on both armed services and intelligence committees in the Senate.

Joseph Biden: A six-term senator who helms the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Biden, could offer the heavyweight foreign policy experience that Obama is often accused of lacking. But at 65 -- and seen as part of the U.S. political furniture -- he could undermine Obama''s message of change.

Michael Bloomberg: Since ruling out his own independent bid for presidency, the mayor of New York has been seen as a potential running mate for both Obama and McCain. For Obama, the media tycoon and former Republican would help mitigate the Democrat''s problem with Jewish voters brought on by outlandish rumors that he is a Muslim, but do little to attract the white, working class vote.

Wesley Clark: This former NATO commander, who failed in his bid for the 2004 presidential nomination, was seen as a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter -- a fact that could help unite the party. But the 63-year-old''s tough reputation as a no-nonsense soldier is unlikely to win much backing among party activists.

Hillary Clinton: While the "dream ticket" of a Obama-Clinton campaign could help harness Clinton''s powerbase of women and white working-class Democrats, the prospect of uniting the two rivals has won mixed support. A non-scientific CNN.com poll said 60 percent of people were not in favor of the move.

Chris Dodd: A long-serving senator with solid foreign policy credentials who was previously considered as a running mate for John Kerry''s failed presidential bid in 2004, Dodd presents the same problems as Biden.

Chuck Hagel: A close friend of fellow Republican John McCain -- Obama''s general election rival -- Hagel''s strong anti-war in Iraq stance has generated cross-party appeal and though an unlikely choice he could be seen as the man to attract wavering Republican voters.

Ed Rendell: As an outspoken Clinton supporter, a Rendell partnership could rally support for Obama and as governor of swing state Pennsylvania, he could help secure key votes, but his popularity is limited outside Philadelphia.

Bill Richardson: The New Mexico governor, who identifies himself as Hispanic, could help sway the burgeoning Latino vote in addition to lending heavyweight foreign policy credentials as a former United Nations ambassador.

Kathleen Sebelius: The two-term governor of mainly Republican Kansas, Sebelius has proven cross-party support but the rising Democratic star still lacks a national profile.

Jim Webb: Another rising star, straight-talking Webb has already dismissed his vice-presidential prospects, but his appeal as a Vietnam veteran and successful novelist are clear. Webb''s bluntness, however, led one commentator to label him an "unguided missile."

They said it on CNN. I've been browsing gem sites all day while watching. Weird though that they haven't posted it anywhere...

ETA: Bill Richardson doesn't just identify as Hispanic, he is three quarters Mexican. His mother is Mexican, as are 3 out of 4 grandparents. His father was a banker living in Mexico City and he rushed Bill's mother to California to give birth to Bill so that he'd be born in the United States. Bleh. I hate when the media says that someone "identifies" with a certain race. Ps me off.

Maybe they got confused because all the news stories say that she''s helping him pick a VP not a VP candidate.

That would make a lot more sense.

I'm switching back and forth from CNN to Top Chef now...

How amazing!
Can''t wait to get organized and start knocking on doors in NH with moveon for Obama!

Freke, here is info on Caroline helping to advise on VP selection http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/

And for Moon and Diamondfan, Obama chats up the Jews:
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/06/04/obama-reaches-out-to-pro-israel-group/

So exciting, must head out for some margaritas now. Thanks for the idea and enjoy the wedding to Karen!

Seriously! Hillary is only hurting herself by refusing to concede...it''s over honey GO HOME! She holding onto this like a crazed dog with it''s favorite toy and it''s not appealing at all.

I really hope Obama does not give in and select her as his VP. There may be a good spot for her in his cabinet but not the VP.

I have to say I agree with Starset

Obama/Sebelius ''08
Living in KS I know what Sebelius can do and I''d love to see her in the national spotlight but alas I fell it''s a long shot.

Thanks for posting swimmer, I read about it earlier today. I thought it was great that Hillary was being supportive but also weird since she hasn't conceded. I did here on CNN that she will end her campaign this week and news will come out Friday.

Edit: My bad, she's "suspending" her campaign. CNN is talking about it now.

Discuss.

(To get away from the misleading Hillary thread.)

Hillary has not conceded, McCain is in need of a wheelchair and oxygen tank, and Obama about to speak. What will he say??
he''ll say.......i will tax every American to death!!

"Suspending" it?
blink.gif
Does she, with all her advisers, live on another planet? IT IS OVVVVVVVVERRRRRRRR.

Oh no she din''t.

only Dems on PS?
33.gif

No. There is also you, and some Independents. That we know about. It''s always the same people in here though...

Why yes, only dems are allowed to be PS members. I don''t know how it happened that you made it in to our super-exclusive, top-secret clubhouse...

I''m a registered democrat. I registered as such back in 1980. Then I didn''t really think about politics for all of my 20''s since I was busy, as most 20-somethings are, establishing my life and thrashing about personal issues. Politics seemed distant. In my 30''s I bacame more interested, but also alarmed as the Republican party was highjacked by religious extremists. I am still, and even more appalled today, so my chances of jumping parties is slim.

I''d prefer registering as an independent, but in Oklahoma, if you want any say in either primary, you must be a registered something, so I decided to keep my registration as a dem so I''d have at least some say in the process. Of course, around here, hell would freeze over before we''d ever elect a democratic party candidate to the presidency, so my vote for Obama will fall into the abyss.

Link to margarita recipe here. I did not mention Obama though. I think margaritas should be non-partisan...

Karen thanks for posting the recipes. I''m doing a drive by posting so I''ll check out the thread later...

I wanted to post this article on how Obama can win over Clinton supporters, esp women. I thought it was pretty good...http://www.theroot.com/id/46751
