Obsessed with Barry's Stones: 9.8mm too big for a ring?

Athena ~

It will be absolutely lovely! I also wear a small size (a five) and I think with the right setting, (not a lot of extras surrounding the gem itself), you'll be extremely pleased. :D Can't wait to see the pics when you receive this beauty!

Very nice! Nope, I don't think its too big at all.

As a client of mine used to tell me, if she could still lift her arm to show it off, then it wasn't too big...

Heck no! I wear a 4 and I sport the 11mm asscher in my avatar often. Just keep telling yourself it's not garish, it's fabulous!

Not at all. If you are fine with it, does it maer what others think about it? I have a size 4.5 finger and sport rings with stones around 10 mm.

You bought that!!! I visited that stone at least 20 times, trying to decide to spring for it with 4 projects ahead of it. I'm glad a PSer did. It will look wonderful! Anything that beautiful can't ever be wrong in any way -- especially if set simply so the stone is the main attraction. Pics when you receive it, please, quickly!!!! :appl:

So, I personally think stones SHOULD be big! :appl:

Go Big or Go Home, that's my motto!

I agree with iLander!! :naughty: I definitely don't think its too big.

The setting will make a difference too, what kind of setting are you thinking of going with this for this one?

A size 5.75 finger is about 16.3mm wide. This means that any stone under 16.3mm is just right. When you get over that you really need to wear it for special occasions or have a job which allows a large stone to work well with it. Movie stars and hairdressers can get away with it, while a dentist or proctologist would have a have a much more difficult time wearing a large stone...at least while working.

LOL - Yeah, I don't think I'd see a proctologist that wore a 16mm stone. hmmm

I don't know Michael. Hairdressers use hot tools and blow dryers. I don't think I would want that near my gems.

I'm a programmer/database developer, so I wear lots of huge rings all day long. The computer code doesn't really hurt them too much.

I'm a legal secretary, so I type all day. I love having big old bling on to stare at while I type - as long as it doesn't twist. It's hard to type with the stones are face down!

I heard back!! I'm going to do it!! I've asked them to make the rope a little smaller though. It's so going to be worth the wait (I'll go crazy, but that's OK).

Never to big! Ever! Rock that stone!!! Your gem will look gorgeous in that setting! :cheeky: So exciting! Cant wait to see the finished product!

I didn't get my Jolly Green Giant in the mail today. :-( I hate waiting on the USPS.
