I really like this stone I just would like some more experienced OEC lovers to chime in. The stone is priced a tad under $6,000. Is it worth it? Based on GIA report. My ring size is a 5.5 I'm hoping this will be a forever diamond for me.20201106_104958.jpg20201106_104523.jpg20201106_102034.jpg20201106_102351.jpg20201106_102337.jpg

I think that seems a reasonable price.

It is very pretty.

It goes a bit dark for me personally in the center, but that's just me...I am not one of the experts.

A few more photos would be helpful!

I agree. The center is a bit dark. Have you seen other OECs? I think you should try some more before committing.

I can’t speak about the faceting because I don’t know anything about OECs. I do have an M faint brown which is much smaller than this diamond. I prefer brown undertones over yellow. I think the K color is helped by the undertone..It looks beautiful to me.

It's not a bad price and it's lovely stone. I prefer color in my old cuts so I like that it's a K.
What does your gut say?
This 'flavor' is a deeper example with a tiny table. Sparkly at the edges, but you will see distinct on/off through the middle depending on the angle. Probably less of a kozibe effect. Have you seen any others to compare what kind of facet patterning you like? I ask because they have their own personalities and you have to compare to know which one does it for you. Old cuts are by feel much more than specifications. Your eye has to say yea. If your eye is happy then it's the one for you.
Is there any video?- that would help us get a better feel.
I am by no means an expert, a novice really  I just know what my eyeballs like.
I hope some of the ladies who own oecs come by to impart their wisdom.

I think the price is okay as whole on balance. I have seen ones that are similar specs that are priced lower. The biggest thing is the performance. In some of your photos it does look like the center can be a little bit dark, but I think that that could just be the way your hand was tilted.

The only real way to judge the performance of any antique cut is by your eyes. Does it have a nice light up/light off pattern? How is the light return? Do you get nice large chunky pastel flashes?

Static photos of old cuts are really not helpful unfortunately for those questions.

I wonder if the darkness in the middle is just in photos. I have one diamond that photographs similarly but in person is quite nice.

This is one of a few selected. I was a little on the fence when seeing the brown tint but being the largest stone i figured I would start there. I still have a few that are close in measurements but smaller weight.Screenshot_20201106-134407_Instagram.jpg

This one is smaller...look at face up size, not carats....but I think has gorgeous faceting. I had almost bought it for myself but decided I wanted a higher color

This is the same stone so you can see it on a hand...

This one is very pretty the faceting is perfection I've never ordered from jewelsbygrace. Have you ever ordered from her before? How's the return policy?

It’s beautiful! I cannot speak to value for price but as far as beauty goes, this stone has it.

ps - your ring is gorgeous by the way

Thank you. I really need to clean it. I never take it off

In the pictures that you took, it looks like it's reflecting your camera to me. Or your cell phone case.

Is Old World Diamonds the vendor? If so, just ask Adam his honest opinion of the stone is compared to others in your budget.

I will say that as far as vendors go I would prefer to buy from Adam versus Grace myself.

I posted another photo of it from the dealer. It does look better in person then the videos he sent. I questioned the pastels in the video as I didn't see much there but figured I'd need to see it in person. It doesn't give off the pastels like I thought it would. I thought maybe due to the cut just being good? I'll try to post a youtube video or the one he sent.

Yes, Adam is the vendor. He sent me a few to chose from he thought this was good for my budget and said I should start here. I also like another one he sent thats smaller weight but faces about the same. I definitely wanted to see this because of weight and its gia report happens to be my wedding date.

I think it looks better in person than the video I was sent but it looks like its dark in some of photos. Not sure if I sold thought

I ordered my stone from Grace, it came very fast - no complaints. She has a 3-day return policy.

I have never ordered from Adam but have heard excellent things.

It really is pretty - agree with other comments. What you see with your eyes is most important. Photos can be tricky, videos are better. But even then...if you want big chunky flashes and aren't seeing them, then I might reach out to Adam about other options.

Flashes of color are from the environment, so lighting matters a lot.

There so many different OEC styles and flavors - the stone from Grace is up my alley, but may not be up yours! (But it might also be!)

I would ask him to let you know which ones he thinks have the best performance out of the ones that meet your specifications. I wouldn't focus on carat weight as much as I would focus on performance. Plus in old cuts, the weight really doesn't mean anything in terms of spread. It's all about the millimeter face size.

I would honestly just ask him for your budget, what is the best performing diamond that he can recommend to you and see what he picks as his favorite.

For myself, I have worked with both Grace and Adam. I personally have preferred my interactions with Adam. I've had multiple transactions with both. Everybody has vendors they click with better, and he is one of my vendors that I quite like even though I've not bought from him in a moment.

On old cuts, you can pretty much ignore the cut grade. It's not helpful.

A lot of how an old cut performs is due to the lighting condition. Have you tried taking the stone outside in shaded diffused light? Or have you seen it in low interior light, similar to candlelight? That's usually where they will perform best.

However generally speaking you have to like how they perform and it may not be a stone that is lively enough for you.

What I would encourage you to do is take a look at his Instagram on the videos, and send him what you like as far as performance. You could also use some of Grace's videos as an example. There are different faceting styles that you see in old stones. Grace generally has good videos, Even though a couple recently that have been posted aren't close enough to be helpful.

Adding a thread.

It's an old mine, but it gives an example of what I like to see in an old cut. But what I like is different than someone else. That's why looking at a lot is helpful to see what you like.

I bought my earrings from him thats why I went back to him for this. He's very nice and understanding. I think I'll continue to look as I really want those pastels. No matter where I take it I'm not really seeing them as much as I'd like.

Thats a good idea I think I will try to find some rings or stones with the pastels im looking for. This stone isn't as lively no matter where I move it and I did take it outside back porch but still not as much fire as I wanted. I have a princess cut stone and feel the fire in that is comparable to this. It does have its moments but not enough

She takes great videos of her rings...it the first one has a bunch of different OEC cuts and you can see how they perform in different lighting..there aren't the best close-up shops, but if you look through her other posts / Etsy items, you can figure out which cuts produce the desired look you want

The bottom rings on her index and middle finger in the first vid made me think of you...big chunky flashes despite not being huge stones

I follow her online too. Yes her rings have that fire in looking for. Her OEC is amazing I definitely want to see those pastels and have those flashes. This stone is pretty but its lacking that. I did reach back out to Adam I hope he finds me something in the near future.

have you sent Adam a pic of a stone with an example of the facet patterning you want to see?
that might help. That’s what I did.
however - the pic you get from him might not look like what you’d imagine to see. That’s where trusting Adam comes in. (My stones pic from him is not what I expected to see- but it looks exactly like I requested, on my hand)

i agree with previous posters - it seems this stone probably does throw fire/pastels, but you might just be wishing for/looking for a broader faceting pattern (esp in the perimeter) that will throw broader flashes of fire/pastels in the right environment?
