#JOTW OEC of my dreams is on my finger! (5.48 ct M VS1)

What an absolutely beautiful stone! Lucky girl!

I really love the one in your avatar too. Those chunky cluster’s are one of my favorites.

Thank you! There’s a thread for my antique cluster ring:

This was my dream cluster too! I remember last year she had a small and a large one. Truly beautiful!

Outside, under a tree. The focus isn’t great, but the colors are amazing! These are totally unedited. They’re just cropped and collaged.

I have an update! A friend of mine recommended a Facebook group where I could ask for recommendations of bench jewelers in my state, and I posted. I got a recommendation, saw his work (he fabricates and restores, but he also does claw prong setting) and made plans. I took a final chance on jewelryhoo and had them make the ring in platinum rather than white gold, and I drove an hour and a half to bring it to the new setter. Well, the third time is the charm!! He did it perfectly! I’m so happy!

So, here’s a picture of the before (set by a prominent goldsmith who clearly cannot do claw prongs at all) and after (new platinum ring, experienced claw prong setter).

Here are a few pictures of the new ring, which I ADORE! I’m wearing a 1.5mm pure 24k gold band with it in the first picture.

How wonderful to find a good bench jeweler close by! He did a great job and the ring looks beautiful!

Now we're talking! Wow, the setting is beautiful!! Those prongs are perfect. So glad you found someone who does such great work! Now you can totally enjoy your new diamond and ring.

I searched and searched, and I found it! This 5.48 ct (GIA M VS1) true antique old European cut diamond makes my heart sing! With a 51% table and a depth of 64.7%, it has both the chunky flower pattern I wanted AND the lovely architecture of a high crown. It’s 11.04 x 11.06 x 7.15mm. I found it at Eragem in a setting that wasn’t what I wanted, and they let me return the setting for a partial refund. Here is the picture from Eragem that made me fall in love with the diamond.

Here’s a circle crop of that picture:

Here are some pictures I took when it was unset:

I have had some setbacks with the setting. I had it made by jewelryhoo. They had made settings for me for my previous diamond solitaire. I ordered this one in white gold, and it proved to be a difficult alloy for setters, as I’ve had to have two made because the first one was destroyed during attempted setting. I went to a different setter for the second one. He’s an amazing goldsmith, and the diamond is secure in the prongs, but he had to do all kinds of weird things to the insides of the prongs to trick them into meeting the diamond, and I don’t like what I see when I look with a loupe. For this reason, I’m considering this setting to be temporary. When we recover a bit from spending so much on the stone, I’ll have a custom setting made, and I’ll go with platinum. For now, I’m thrilled to be able to wear this diamond of my dreams!

A thousand times wow!

Almost six carats!!! :kiss2:

T, is there any chance you might put a video of your diamond sparkling away onto YouTube and post the link? You don't have to use your real name for your channel or anything. It can be completely anonymous.

Oh, fantastic! Thank you so much!

So beautiful! Thank you!

Well, I think that diamond just wanted to be in platinum! Now it all makes sense and is STUNNING. I‘ve rarely had to wipe the drool from my screen quite so much. I hope you wear it in all joy and health!!

The ring is fantastic - and oh my goodness - those beautiful pastel flashes and facets…. Just wonderful. So glad you found it’s forever home!

What a beauty! I love the photos you took!

I'm melting over these big, chunky facets and high profile! I don't even know how you can capture such a rainbow pastel spectrum of colors. I love the diamond against the platinum shine and am obsessed with those 8 tiny prongs.

@Tourmaline, your diamond is gorgeous, beautiful facets  I'm loving your pics!
