OEC yellow diamond - would you send it to GIA?

Well the curiosity got the best of me :Up_to_something: Results from GIA :

Old European
0.58 c
SI2 (this surprises me I couldn't find anything!)

Origin - natural (yay!)
FANCY YELLOW! (yay YAY! I was expecting FLY at best)
Even distribution

depth 71%
table 51%
girdle - extremely thin to very thick
culet - slightly large

strong green fluor - I love the fluor on this stone!

This ring is gold (which I can't wear) so now I have to decide what to do with it!

As always, I appreciate all your opinions and input. PS'ers make the learning fun! :appl:

Congrats on the GIA confirmation! :appl: Just be careful with the extremely thin girdle and since you don't wear yellow gold, I offer to wear it for you.

Yay amazing!!

If you're sellin that setting I know someone who has been looking for one of those for some time :Up_to_something: lol

Darn it, I was just gonna call dibs on the setting! :Up_to_something:

What a gorgeous ring! Could you have the shank cut off and rebuilt in platinum?

That's awesome!

Gorgeous ring! Glad the GIA report exceeded your expectations and more importantly glad you love it! :appl:
My vote is reset to platinum since you cannot wear gold but love that setting so maybe duplicate it in plat?

Hurray! Congrats :)

You would do that for me? Thanks Chrono! :wavey:

NKOTB & Niel, thank you! I imagine I won't sell the setting, sorry. These stones have been together for a long time. So assuming I can come up with a design I like and can afford, I'd like to keep all the diamonds together. The white diamonds aren't the greatest but I'm sentimental like that. So I'd like to keep them together. But we'll see.......

I think I'd like to try and make something more band - like rather than a halo. Or possibly a halo with some additional yellow melee.

Thank you Asscherhalo, Missy & Mico!

can you not wear gold or do you just not prefer it? could just rhodium plate it for the time being?

Oh rats. Are you going to keep it a ring? Seems one affordable option would be to turn it into a pendent. The halo is plat right?

Super beautiful ring...whatever you do with it :)

I haven't had it tested but it does appear to be plat. Definitely an option!

Thank you Moneymeister!!

I love happy endings like this! Now you have manageable problems -figuring out what you next step is. :)) Congrats on the good news!

It's SO pretty & even better to have such happy news! Great! I hope you can do something about the setting quickly so you can WEAR the thing!

Hi,

What good news.

Annette

KEWL!!!!

That's a very rare bird you've got there jbkhere... OEC's in Fancy Yellow are extremely rare!!
Congrats!

Thank you Minou, JewelFreak & Smith! :wavey:

Thanks Rock! - I'd been wondering about that. I keep looking for ideas and/or comparables and wasn't coming up with much. I thought I wasn't using the correct search terms  .

if the head is in platinum couldn't you just reshank it in platinum? would keep the costs down and preserve the history even better than just keeping the stones together. i hope to convince you because the setting is just so darn pretty.

years ago when i just started looking at diamonds and had only just discovered pricescope i saw on ebay 2 rings one with a yellow OEC and another with a pink oec. yes a pink oec, small though it was. they were on there at the same time so although they caught my interest i didn't realise how rare they were. nowadays i think of them often :(

I like the suggestion of a reshank; you not only preserve most the gorgeous original setting, but it is also cost effective and wearable for you.

Thanks Hippi & Chrono!
I'm still a bit undecided about the setting. Hubs just reminded me that I've got a parcel of slightly larger and better/brighter OECs that I might consider using as surrounding stones instead. I'll have to think on that one for a bit. Meanwhile - I'll send yellow off to David Atlas....

Very nice! I would try to keep the diamonds around the yellow stone because the contrast really helps to enhance the color of the center stone.

I can wear gold...send it to me! Its really lovely!

Edit - Now aren't you glad you had it certed...I mean graded...I mean assessed?!? Doh!

Thanks DiamondSeeker! I'm also thinking about putting a yellow gold cup under the yellow diamond to help amp up the color too. But I'd need the cup to either not touch my finger or have platinum behind it a bit. Unfortunately both yellow and white gold make me itch. I've always assumed its the nickel (silver does the same too) I know if I look I can find gold not alloyed with nickel but its mostly just easier to find platinum. I do want to try a 22 or 24k gold band at some point just to see if I could possibly wear higher carat gold without the problem. But since I don't want to end up with some thing I can't wear - I'm not willing to pay a premium for it :)

I've been wanting more of a band lately so I'm still torn about keeping this as its existing halo or as a center in a five stone or something similar to this Caleb Meyer. Of course I also really like the idea of bezeling the center yellow and milgrain around the outside white stones like this...

Thank you tyty333! Yes, I am indeed very happy to have had GIA grade the stone. Sorry tho - Chrono called the setting first
