This is the third time this has happened, but to the largest degree. My pics on my computer get mixed up. It shows one thing, but when I click it open, it''s an entirely different picture. I have scanned in the past, and nothing was found. WHAT is doing this?

os?
program they open in?

latest updates applied?

strm, what is os?

They are in a folder in My Pictures, and I''ve got all updates applied.

Thanks!

os if I am not mistaken is operating system :)

thats the end of my knowledge there

Ellen-OS is the Operating System your computer is running on. For PCs its usually some version of Windows (98, XP, Vista) and for Macs it usually OS-X (Tiger, Leopard).

I wish I could offer more assistance. Is there some sort of pattern emerging? Are all the pictures one file name off? Maybe strmrdr will be able to chime in.

ETA: Deelight, you beat me to it!

No pattern, except it's always pics at the very top of the folder. And the other two times, it's just been a couple pics, this time it's a bunch. And upon closer inspection, they have been changed to pictures I don't even have on my computer anymore.

I try :)

I can ask BF tomorrow when he is home he may have an idea but by then hopefully storm can answer :D

Ellen, I can't figure it out. I tried doing a quick search for what it could be but didn't really find anything useful. Have you tried a good windows troubleshooting forum? Perhaps you can barter services with someone; advice on the 4 Cs in exchange for jpg assistance

?

It sounds frustrating though

Dee, thank you!

somehow, lol! I love the bartering idea.

And it IS frustrating, especially now because one of the pics that should be there, that has now disappeared, was of my youngest son and I at a wedding last summer.

Thanks strm. Lemme make sure I understand.

I disable thumbnail caching. Open the folder, restart. Then do I have to disable again, or will it still be disabled and I just open folder and restart it twice more?

Sorry if I'm being dumb.

And how do I turn it back on?

disable, open folder, reboot, open folder, reboot, turn back on.
You turn it back on by undoing the setting change above back to what it was.

Also if there are subfolders with pictures in them open them also.

Ok, I got to the 4th step to turn it off, but instead of having a long list on the right to choose from, all it says is:

(at the top, left)

Setting

(icon) Turn off shell protocol protected mode

And to the right at top it says :State, and underneath it says, Not configured.

Hold on, I think I got it, I''ll explain later.

I was in Computer Config first, then saw User Config. But, it didn''t work.

Thanks anyway strm.

What does this? So I can keep it from happening again/worse?

1) Click on Start
2) Click on Search
3) Click on All Files and Folders
4) Type the following in the section called "all or part of the file name"
thumbs.db
5) In the Look in box, make sure Local Hard Drives is chosen
6) Click Search
7) A long list of thumbs.db files should appear, click on Edit, Select All
8) Click on File, and choose Delete
9) Close the Search Results window

It didn''t find anything strm. One note, while in progress, it said, Not searching hidden files. I didn''t hide any files, probably my oldest.
20.gif
Would that make any difference?

And thank you for trying to help me.

tell it to search hidden files, they are hidden.

I tried this too, it found nothing. Can I just do system restore?

Ellen: there is a little man in your computer that''s mixing your pics each night..
Just kidding dear I have no clue.
I know of someone who called a tech ( few years back) to come and open the computer to retrieve pics that were emailed to him.
Anyways hope you get it sorted out..
