I am seriously considering this one here:

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Excellent-Cut-Round-Diamond-1545160.asp

Shape: Round
Carat Weight: 2.01
Cut: Excellent
Color: I
Clarity: SI1
Certificate: GIA
Depth: 60.5%
Table: 58.0%
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 8.15*8.18*4.94

HCA 1.0!!!

Here is the idealscope image:

And here is what the gemologist said about it:
"You'll be pleased to know that diamond 1545160 (2.01crt I SI1) has great fire, brilliance, and scintillation and performs the best of you selections. It has a higher "I" color and the gemologist feels that it is very close to having an "H" color. Additionally, its inclusions blend so well that the average eye will view it as eye clean. It's a beautiful diamond with an excellent cut and I highly recommend it for your diamond purchase."
Rep says:
"I believe you'll be very pleased with diamond 1545160 and highly recommend it for such an important purchase. It's a fantastic value and will look great mounted in any setting."

Wire price is $15,760, which I agree is pretty good value based on what I see out there. My ONLY hesitation at the moment is whether 2ct is large enough and whether a 2.5 ct will look substantially larger to justify paying an extra $5K. I visited yet another local jeweler and looked at 2 czs side by side, one on the left hand, one on the right. I asked random customers to pick out the larger one from a conversation distance. They had trouble and had to look for a long time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!!! :wavey:

I think the stone looks great and is a great price. A high I color is very nice. I do think there is a significant difference between 2 and 2.5 cts, though.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Yay! The stone looks wonderful!

Please make sure you are comfortable with the size before you buy it. I am pretty sure that I can tell the difference between a 2ct and a 2.5ct. You'll end up having to pay $15760 or more if you want to upgrade with JA later.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Gah!
I was very comfortable with the size UNTIL I tried on a 2.5. I had no idea shrinkage could happen before you even owned the diamond! :o

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

It is smashing and a great price.

But if you think its too small now, then go bigger. It won't grow once you have it.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Looks like a great stone! BUT there is a big difference between a 2 and 2.5ct. Definitely go for the size now or you wont be truly happy. Keep searching the right stone is out there!

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Or buy from a vendor with a better upgrade policy. You are pretty much stuck if you buy this one.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I know... I am really feeling stuck. I love the stone and I love the price. I just really wish it was a little bit bigger :(

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I was ready to settle on a smaller stone around 1.7ct, but I'm so glad I went with my 2.1ct. You have to have a realistic expectation though. It is very difficult to find an eye clean SI2 around the size you want. Have you heard back from Yekutiel by the way?

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I think if you love this stone, than get it. It is a fantastic price!!! The ideal scope is perfect, and it's completely eye clean. This is the 2nd? stone you've been thrilled about? If you keep looking you're never going to be happy. You'll always want the bigger and better. Yes, there's a big difference between a 2 ct and a 2.5 in size BUT also in BUDGET! Set you *max* budget, and get the biggest you can with the standards you've set and stick with it then STOP looking. You'll constantly loose out on great opportunities. Also - I think JA has a great upgrade policy.

I am waiting to speak to Yekutiel tomorrow. He's been really busy and kind of hard to get a hold of now with the holidays. The problem is, I only have this JA stone on hold until Monday, and I am not sure Yekutiel will be able to come up with something for me before then. If he doesn't, I'll either get the this JA 2ct one or perhaps that other Bluenile 2.41ct, which they believe is eye clean but no images or idealscope of it, so a big unknown there.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Oooooh, I've got my tongue hanging out, following your diamond choices! I could never, ever afford this much on a ring but I do love to live vicariously through others! :appl:

I think that if you really want a 2.5 you should get it now. Diamond prices aren't going down, and although an extra 5k is a lot, it's not so much when spread over a lifetime. I think this JA stone is really amazing value, but sounds like you may not be happy with it. I wouldn't sacrifice cut to go larger though. Since this cut is so good, the diamond will appear larger with all those flashes, anyway.

But if you can afford a 2.5 with a cut as good as this, well... :naughty: And maybe if you could get an H? My e-ring is Hearts on Fire I color, so even though it's a good quality stone, the slight yellow tint does bother me a bit, I'll be honest.

Well, I do feel guilty about spending this much money on a diamond when we could find more "appropriate" uses for it, but at the same time... whatever Lola wants... :naughty:

This one from Bluenile is another option:

It's 2.41 ct. The price difference is $2,000. They believe it's eye clean to an average consumer. It has medium fluorescence (which could be good for masking a bit of color?), It's GIA X, X, VG polish. HCA is 1.5. But that is all the information I will be able to get before buying it. No image, no idealscope.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Blue Nile is fantastic about accepting returns. They are just so fast and professional it's unreal. Others here like the PS vendors better, but I've dealt with BN a lot and they are a real favourite of mine. I've bought a number of diamonds and have always been happy without all the bells-and-whistles pictures and images, as long as the HCA score looks good.

An I colour with fluoro sounds good. And it's only $2k more - not bad at all!

Will BN ship you the diamond to inspect before having it set?

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I am not setting with them anyway, so it's not a problem. They do charge you for return shipping and insurance, which could be upwards of $100.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I guess the best way to tell is with your eyes. But if you did want all the images, you'll have to go with another vendor. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed in this one - BN doesn't sell duds, at least not in the Ideal category (they do have a Fair category which I don't much like the look of!) and since the HCA score is good..... :naughty:

I also think the price is quite competitive. Bear in mind that we're all cut nuts here and people like to look at all the images, but I have bought a lot of stuff online just using the lab reports and the HCA, and always been happy. I tend to go for SI1-SI2 in order to get higher colour, and I've never had an eye-clean issue. I've also bought some lovely diamonds in E.B. Horn in Boston looking at no data at all, just my eyes, and I'm super-happy with those pieces too. So I don't think that all that data is necessary unless you really want it. (I can hear the howls of horror now from all the others!)

I looked at the chart of inclusions, and it looks as if they're mainly crystals. I've got a gorgeous D colour 0.52 which is an SI2, but since they're white I can't see anything even with a x30 loupe. If these inclusions are crystals, I would think it's OK - I mean, they aren't black carbon spots, you know? Full disclosure, though, I'm a total colour queen and could care less about clarity, as long as the stone is relatively eye-clean.

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Thank you for your thoughts. I don't trust my eyes much, especially when I don't have a point of reference. I know when I get the stone in my hands I know I will be happy. I just want to make sure it looks good on paper as well :)

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

I dont think i would want to give up that nice 2.01 that you know is eye clean for one that might not be.... Just food for thought

Re: OK, I think I found a really good one! 2ct RB, idealscop

Since JA has a great return policy, it wouldn't hurt to order the stone. However, I'm really hoping that Yekuiel can get the nice 2.4ct I/VS2 I found for you earlier.
