Okay, I work in a mall (a toy store, although I typically work in the kiosk that's owned by it). Yesterday, after work I may have... gone into Zales to peek at sapphire rings.
I know I know! Maul store, right? But I have no intention of actually buying from Zales or Kays or any of them, and I wanted to just try on a sapphire ring or two to see if the "blue" thing was what I wanted. I've been bouncing back and forth between white sapphire and blue sapphire recently. So I figured a little harmless investigation was in order.
The lady that helped me was really nice and I was up front from the start that I wasn't buying today, that I was just looking and she was very patient with me, so I liked that. I said I wanted to see sapphires in person because photos and even videos were still just online. I didn't mention that we aren't actually looking at rings at the moment...
The first ring I tried on was an oval setting. Pretty enough, but the sapphire was so dark that it looked like a black stone. Even under those mall lights. Then I asked to see a cushion cut halo (this stone had to be 3+ carats. Way more than I'm wanting, but I wanted to see the cut more than anything). She said that one was lab created so I figured it would be closer to a natural stone of the quality I'd be looking for. Well....
Gah!! I'm sold. The huge stone was a bit distracting on my tiny fingers (3.5....), but the blue made my heart go pitter-patter. Lol I've tried on diamonds before, and I never had that reaction.
And last night, I was talking to DBF and I said "I have a confession..." and he froze. After I told him I'd gone to look at sapphires, he went "Geez, is that all? I thought you were gonna say you were pregnant. I was gonna be like 'I disagree.'"
Haha! He's very indulgent of my sparkly obsession. And he was very happy that I've decided I want a blue sapphire because he's always wanted to get me a colored stone instead of a diamond. So it's a win all around!
But yeah, I had to share with others who share a love of pretty sparkles (even if they were in a mall).
