Hi everyone!

Longtime lurker -- newly engaged!

I cannot express my gratitude enough to all of you for your information and willingness to share. I am so impressed, and will continue to be a part of this community because of it.

Here are the stats:

1.37 GIA K SI3 transitional cut, completely eye-clean, can't believe it! Set in Precision Set cushion shaped halo with split shank, with .87 carats of F/G french cut (french cut/channel set on shank) diamonds.

There is just ONE tiny issue!

I had my jeweler add double claw prongs in the talon shape, but I am not completely sold. They are not refined enough (like a Leon or Canera), and I am afraid they are not exactly what I want. Any advice? I will upload hand shots soon.

Again, thank you to all of you! What a thrill it is! :)

Congrats on your engagement! I love your ring, it is gorgeous! The setting is perfect for that stone! I do see what you mean about the prongs. I guess you could talk to the jeweler and see what they say. Part of me would be worried about messing with the setting though. Maybe wait a few weeks and see if it still bothers you??

Your ring is gorgeous! Congratulations!

Congratulations! And what a beautiful ring! I cannot believe that its I3

It's gorgeous~~ But you gotta give us larger photos than those two itty bitty ones :wavey:

Those claw prongs are a specialty of those amazing metalsmiths. Is your jeweler able to refine it some more? I think they can file it, no?

Wonderful news and fabulous ring!! Its a beauty :appl:

I agree with Yenny - see if they still bother you in a weeks time or more... and if they do, before your guy starts to alter them, see samples of his version of a 'claw prong'. If what he shows you is not up to snuff, perhaps you could approach a vendor who's work you do like, to see if they would agree to just adjust the prong shape?

I don't know if that is something one of our PS vendors would tackle, but you could send an email just to check it out.

There is some gorgeous prong work out there, that's for sure, but as Madelise noted, LM and VC are at the top of their craft when it comes to those prongs, so it may be hard to get that look from someone else who doesn't specialize in that effect, KWIM??

I hope it all works out well whatever direction you go for!!!

AND ITS BEAUTIFUL!! NEVER lose site of that - its a GORGEOUS ring!!! :appl:  :appl:

Congratulations on your engagement - I love your ring, it's beautiful :wavey:

Hi everyone!

Thank you for your responses and suggestions; I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I decided to drop my ring off at my jeweler and the master metalsmith agreed that the talon claw prongs need refining. Even he said it would drive him crazy! I will get it back in a week or so, and will be sure to post the photos. I can hardly wait to get it back, I told them to not rush this job :)

We inherited my center stone, and while I love it very very much, I do hope to upgrade to a stone with better proportions, even though this stone does a fine job of sparkling for what her dimensions are. When I do replace the center, I feel like the claw prongs won't seem to "crowd" it as much. Does that make sense?

I will also upload a few hand shots I took earlier today (before giving it to my jeweler to fix); at least there will be a reference for before and afters. Am I crazy?!

Again, thank you to all of you! xx

Not crazy at all. There are so many of us that are very strict with the most minute details of our rings. Esp with having cellphones and digital cameras to take lots of bling pics blown up in larger sizes, these minute details become a little bit larger than life

If you plan on upgrading, you might have to change the whole setting if the diamond is larger by quite a bit! But one step at a time ;)) Handle that later when you're upgrading.
