I''m glad it turned out OK. Wow, those kids were DUMBA**ES. Stealing from their own neighborhood, trying to sell the stuff BACK in their own neighborhood, and driving a red Mustang to boot.

Could they have been any more conspicuous about it? I hope that telling their parents does some good, but I can totally see them saying "It was just a prank, they''re kids." Have you thought about pressing charges?

I''m so glad you''re alright...Those kids are the dumbest kids I''ve ever heard. Just a thought, but I''m nervous about whom the other kid was text messaging to.
Give us an update about talking to their parents!

Glad to hear you got your GPS back and equally glad your FI was able to go with you. I''m relieved to know that you didn''t end up in an unsafe situation.

Loved the part how your FI hits saved destinations, that was great. Glad you got it back. This is some story, but one with a safe ending thank goodness. I was so nervous for you!!
Yeah, do you watch Dexter by any chance?

One character stole the other''s GPS and it was a very similar scenario. Anyway, I''m so glad you''re okay!!!! I was nervous, but was also dying to know the truth of the whole matter. We have had similar thefts by neighbourhood kids. Twice. Not me or my daughter, we always lock our cars. But DH, well...

Lyra, was that in Season 2? I''ve only seen S1, but I can imagine how THAT scenario turns out.

You guys are so brave - what a great story! Are you going to report the whole thing to the police? Did they damage your car when they broke in? I would definitely pursue it so they don''t get the idea that they can get away with things.

You guys rock!

So far all we know about them is their cell phone number and that one drives a red mustang (the seller). FI wants to be SURE that the mustang we saw parked at the house down the street is theirs before we knock on any doors (I can name 5 people that either own a red mustang or used to own one. It's a very popular car here for some reason, and they are always red!). The other thing about that is that there are a lot of rental houses in our neighborhood, so for all we know they could live with a bunch of other "kids" and there really aren't any parents there at all. Did I mention I'm sooooo ready to move out of this neighborhood? lol.

FI also has a very good customer at work that is a cop, so he'll be calling him tomorrow to figure out what our next step is. We're hoping that he can help us see if the registered name for the cell phone and mustang match. That's the first step, then the cop will come with us to pay a visit.

If it IS their house, it would explain why I saw him running in that direction. We figure that he probably walked around the whole block (it's not very big) and just looked for unlocked car doors. And if they do live there then that means that they probably do know exactly where we live, which worries me a little bit. I don't think we're in any real danger or anything, but I could see them doing something ridiculous like egging our cars or something. lol. Since our bedroom window overlooks our driveway, we're going to keep it cracked tonight (we're on the second floor, don't worry!) so our dogs can hear better. We're going to keep the light over the garage on too. Just in case.

Seriously though...I just keep picturing their faces! It was so priceless. They were shocked. I think the kid (I keep saying kid but it's not like I'm that much older than them) was only pretending to text message someone because he was really uncomfortable, but who knows. And they didn't even argue with FI at all when he said he was taking the GPS. They reacted just like immature kids do when they get caught doing something wrong. Just excuses. When FI enlightened them to the fact that the GPS was stolen out of his truck the seller tried SO HARD to play it off. He was like "whoa man, sorry to hear that. It wasn't me though, I swear...I just bought it from some kid for $50". Refused to give FI the name though...and couldn't tell him where he lived either.

. lol.

Edit: I've never heard of Dexter, is it a new show?

Glad you were safe during The Bust lol.

When I was living in an apt., I woke up to talking- looked out the peep hole and see two men a few feet in front of my door... one had a some type of auto rifle! After that woke me up, I realized what was going on... the one with the gun was the neighbor below us and caught the other guy trying to steal the neighbors'' car. He took him by gunpoint to the neighbors'' and made him confess to the owners and have them call the police! Crazy drama! Turned out well but.. crazy!

You guys are so Columbo-hilarious! I''m glad everything worked out-hopefully you can get their little punk a**es into some trouble with their parents or the cops, even without the serial number.

My car was also broken into by idiot teenagers. It was locked, so they smashed my window, ripped the face off my stereo (wasn''t removable), didn''t actually get out the stereo itself, and then they messed up my trunk lock even though they had smashed the window and could have just used the button. I figured out pretty much immediately that they probably got my car confused with a similar car in my neighborhood with those crazy loud bass speakers.

I hate punk kids!

Oh my gosh! My heart was racing just reading this thread. I''m glad you got your gps thingy back without any harm done to you. However, they KNOW where you live, they have your number too, and most importantly know what you look like!! I am worried about you! I hope those guys learned a lesson and that''s their last time doing something as dumb as that.

I''m glad it worked out for you but I also can''t believe that you risked yourself for a GPS unit!!!

I don''t want to scare you, and they may ''just be kids'', but do you realise the ramifications of your actions? These guys know where you live, they know what you drive and they also know what you look like. You foiled their plans and embarassed them so they''ll be feeling stupid and may retaliate. Just don''t be suprised if you find your tyres getting slashed or windows broken.

If I were you, I would forget about the whole thing and move on and learn your lesson to ensure that you lock your car and remove all your posessions from inside. Also, remove the window mount each time you get out your car.

I hope that nothing else happens, but please be careful and realise that on this occastion you have won the battle but overall you may lose the war.

I''m sorry, but I think that was a very bad idea. I can understand wanting to get your GPS back and catch that creep, but I can''t believe you would put your safety at risk for it. I would have reported it to the police and let them do their job instead of taking it into your own hands. I would be very careful, especially coming in and out of your house alone since they know what you look like, where you live, and your phone number. My husband would have never let me put myself in danger like that, I''m really surprised your guy was all for it. Sorry, but I just don''t think it was a smart move at all.

On the one hand, it was a bad idea, but on the other hand, those kids probably realize not to mess with either lucky or her fiance now. Maybe they learned their lesson from getting caught red-handed, and they won''t do it again.

I think if more people took action like lucky and her fiance, there would be less a-hole kids out there who grow up into a-hole adults and continue being criminals.

Delighted that you got it back! I hope that you can tell their parents soon!

It''s easy to look back on it now and say it wasn''t a big deal, but I admit that it was a dangerous idea--hence why I posted looking for advice anyway. It seems like the overwhelming majority were against the idea, but then we also had a lot of other people who were telling us to go ahead and do it...like my own mother! I probably wouldn''t have done it if I hadn''t seen the guy in our yard and had an idea of what we were up against, and I know just by how nervous I was yesterday that I wouldn''t have done it without FI.

Just to be clear though, since I guess I''m taking a little bit of offense to those that are implying that my FI doesn''t care about my safety, I was never in danger. In fact, it was his confidence in the scenario that got me agree to it because he''s not normally so "manly" lol. We didn''t meet a guy in an alley in the middle of the ghetto, we met at a starbucks in the middle of the day--the seller''s idea! I guess we just figured that was an odd place for a murderer to want to meet. lol. But we COULD have been wrong, I''ll admit that.

Also, as I mentioned earlier, FI and I sat at two different tables and pretended not to know eachother. FI handled the thieves while I just pretended to be a regular starbucks patron at another table. I don''t blame anyone for jumping on me for doing this...I''m sure if I heard the same story from someone else I would be like "ARE YOU CRAZY!!!" but I guess since it was happening to us we were able to access the situation better and base our decision on our circumstances...

All in all, we''ll never do it again because we aren''t going to make it so easy for people to take our stuff. Tonight we are going to file a police report...not sure if it will do anything, but at least it will scare them. I think it would be kind of stupid of them to vandalize our property or anything like that NOW, so we aren''t really worried about it. I figured it they did it at all it would have been last night, but nothing happened.

Lucky, I just saw this thread today. Can I say, you had me on the edge of my seat! I''m glad that everything worked out for you. While I agree that you could have potentially been harmed- I know how it feels to have something stolen. It''s not so much about the value of the item, but the feeling of being violated. So, I hope your "bust" was theraputic and now life can resume as normal.

Wow! You renegades, you!

I could see my FI doing something similar if something of his were stolen, as well, but I highly doubt he''d let me be a part of it!

I''m sorry you had to deal with this, and I''m glad you managed to get your GPS unit back.

Hopefully these guys run scared and don''t think of a way to try to retaliate!
