"One World Gemstone is Going Dark March 2014. This means I will be closing the doors, turning off the lights and walking away. The transition process is underway right now Tuesday November 26 2013.

It is time to bid this unique website a fond farewell. Please send your comments and well wishes – I would love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the site. I might even post some of the comments below on this page."

The photos were lovely, but I never quite understood the site. I think I said so when it first opened, and a few here got angry with me. I found it hard to navigate, so many layers to go through to get to what I wanted (how much is it?). Sometimes prices weren't posted, sometimes they were, which just frustrated me. When I came across a stone that I loved, without a price, I just left the whole site. With so much competition on the internet (there's tons to see out there!) I just didn't want to spend a lot of time to find the info that I need.

I think with a slightly different site template, I think it could still be a very successful site.

What iLander said. I finally quit looking at all -- such gorgeous photos of beautiful cutting, but frustrating. Good intentions, not the best template.

I can see how many people found it hard to Navigate. I dont think the intention was for it to ever be a buying site but a site where faceters could show off their best stones and grow their reputation. I think Jeff finally realized that all the time he put into taking others photos, he could be working on his own site and his own work. I loved OWG and it really helped me get my name out there, I still get emails on some of the photos from the very beginning today. I am sad to see it go but really am happy that Jeff can work on his own items now too.

As Jim says, it was never a site that needed to be navigated, just wandered around. It wasn't a commercial site, more like a curated exhibit. One could always contact a lapidary who was featured on it, and then buy stones from them directly. Even so I managed to buy two stones that were featured on it. And if nothing else it introduced us to many new talented lapidaries. I will miss it.

It definitely was an eye candy mecca.
