Hi All,

I am pretty much clueless on what my fiance wants for earings, she''s been hinting around the last couple of months about them...but I still have no idea what kind. This is a pretty open-ended question but any information regarding the topic would be put to good use...regarding styles, what''s in, etc...

My budget is 1K.

Thanks in Advance.

Does she like vintage? From the looks of her ring, she may. Fortunoff.Com has some AMAZING beautiful chandelier type diamond earrings that are all pretty much under $1k. ($500-900 most of them)....something like .50 or .75c total, they are very 'in' right now but in my opinion the look is very classic and elegant if you get the right pair. It's something she could pass onto your children and in effect would match with her e-ring depending on what you get.

My two cents...since for diamond studs the $1k budget wouldn't get you very far...AND I am not a fan of alot of other random types of earrings since I don't wear alot of styles. Though also I have seen some beautiful pearl drop earrings with diamond flowers holding the pearl at the top. But slightly more fancy, less trendy. I am not sure what your girl is into but why I like the chandeliers is because they have been around for a really long time and flow in and out of favor quite easily, and are elegant but also fun. Nothing too serious.

Have fun!!

Thanks Mara

I am going to check out that site you suggested...oh 1 more question, are chandelier earings versatile...meaning can she wear it with any outfit or is more a formal thing?

Thanks again

Yeah, traditionally they are more formal.

My niece has a very nice pair of simple gold hoops that hold diamonds - much like a channel diamond anniversary band. Those are definitely under 1k & are very verstile.

If you want diamond studs, you could consider J/K SI2 or even clean I1's set in gold. Good luck.

Actually I have started to see people wearing chandeliers with regular everyday clothes. It's kind of a way to dress up what you are wearing (jeans) in a cool way. But not sure about entire diamond ones

Those would probably be more fancy.

The diamond hoops are an interest too but IMO they are really personal. You know your girl the best. I am REALLY picky about what I wear for jewelry. There are alot of diamond hoops out there and I like maybe 2 out of the ones I have seen, the rest look clunky, cheap or gaudy, etc. Also one other thing to note is that they are very sparkly if they are well-cut and mostly pave. This means that they draw alot of attention to your ears. My girlfriend has a pair, 1ct each, they are all pave and thin and very noticeable. Good if your fiance wants that, bad if she doesn't.

Fortunoff has great ideas for earrings and jewelry--also why not check out Tiffany? They have some great designs, maybe you can find something subtle but beautiful for under $1k.

Chandeliers... those are really a matter of personal taste. Now they got quite fashionable, but this wsn't the case last winter! And, no, they don't work with any outfit, unless one really insists to wearing them. For me, large earrings are really an evening thing and I would not dear hit office with them (alright, mine is a really conservative work environment).

What I would debate a bit is how far 1k goes in the matter of studs: ok, they will not be huge, but they can be nice (the studs in the 'diamonds by the yard' line at Tiffany go for around 1k and they've been a great companion for me be they blue, white or red

Also, there are things such as clarity enhanced diamonds (see GoodOldGold for such stuff) and there are those light yellow diamonds which go at rather low prices. Check this source for some bargains.

Best of luck!

We bought my diamond stud earrings, 0.50 ctw for about $750.00 (I think, it was between $650 and $750 when they were running a Mother's Day special or something) They were from Betterthandiamond.com (but they are real diamonds). I just looked now, and I can't find the diamond earrings on their site anymore, just Asha. They are G color and VS clarity in Platinum. They are not H & A but were ideal cut, and they do sparkle quite a bit. Also, the 0.25 in each ear is still a nice size.

I am sure that for $1K you can find some nice studs if you look around. Nothing beats the classic look of diamond sruds. I almost never take mine off. Good Luck!

You can never go wrong with some simple studs. While I'm a size girl, "starter" earring are great in the .25 -.35 range.

How's about

Whiteflash
I/SI1 - .26 t=55% d=61.5% $440.00 $880.00/pr
same .26 t=56 d=61.4 $440.00 (same basic MM)

or

Whiteflash
I/SI1 - .35
same - .35 t & d approx - 57/61.2 - similar MM $495 each or 990.00 pair.

I also think that simple studs are a good way to go. If you don't want studs, you could always do simple leverbacks (so that there is a small drop). These are both classic styles which will always be in fashion. Plus, both can be worn with suits, dress clothes, jeans etc. If you ever decide to upgrade the earrings, these ones can be passed down to a niece or daughter or something, which would be very sweet. Good luck shopping!
