All this discussion of tanzanite reminds me that I'm still looking for one for a setting I have.
Following CS advice, I've been looking at Tan's stones on eBay.
Does this seem like a good deal?
I'm not worried about the inclusions if it's a nice deep violet colour.
My setting was designed to hold an 8mm round, so I don't want to go too much bigger than that.
And this one fits my budget!

What do you think?

Thanks!

If your ring was meant for a round, I don't think it would be a good idea to go with an oval. You're basically buying something closer to a 9x7mm oval stone. As for color it is pretty nice. It looks like a good deal to me if the ring setting can accommodate a gem that shape and size (as long as you don't mind the inclusion). :)

Do you have a picture of the setting? It may not work since it's an oval...

Ummm....an oval isn't going to fit into a round setting.

Thanks!

I'll ask my jeweller. It's a six claw prong setting. I think it will go, but you're probably right.

If not, I'll keep looking for a round.

Any opinions on the stone itself?

I don't think it will fit; I really don't. The prongs on long end has to be long enough to reach around to the 9 mm side whilst the other side has to be shortened. In addition, you are going to see the metal basket underneath on the shorter 7 mm side.

I would prefer a more blue, but if you like violet this will work. However, I have seen many eye clean, as a matter of fact VVS1 diamond clean type in Tanzanite, so this one looks more included, for a Tanzanite that is.

Check with Jeff Davies. He has some nice tanzanite.

Chrono, of course you're completely right! I was caught up in the idea of finally finding a stone for this setting. I appreciate the reality check!
I am now looking for an 8mm round tanzanite!
Thanks everyone!
