I just got a Prestige report back from AGL and my glowy cabs came back as "Natural Tourmaline" Variety "Paraiba-type". I'm quite excited that they are in fact "Paraibas" however, they are from Mozambique and not Brazil, so AGL calls them Paraiba-type, which is fine with me.
I truly have no idea what they are worth. I want to get a true appraisal of their real value, not some inflated price for insurance purposes. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them and set them or sell them, but knowing their value might help me make that decision. I also have two rings that I want to have appraised for the same reason.
I live in Northern Virginia, so I am a little over three hours from David Atlas in PA, but I'm very near Martin Fuller in VA. I've read good things about both of them on PS, but David Atlas seems to be more well known on this forum.
I'm not sure Martin appraises unset stones, but I can call tomorrow and verify that. If I decided to keep the stones/rings, I'm quite sure that both of them are more than qualified to give me an honest appraisal, so my question is about name recognition. Does Martin Fuller have the name recognition that David Atlas has and does that make a difference?
I'm not sure of the price difference, but I would imagine that they are probably in the same ballpark. The only obvious difference that I see from their websites is that David will do a verbal evaluation of what they would pay for the stones (I realize this will be way less than the appraisal value) if I chose to sell them to him (assuming they are something he might want).
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
