Hi all
Been lurking around here, many other websites, reputable local stores and youtube doing tons of research the last few months for e-rings/diamonds. Been emailing back and forth with a few reputable online dealers as well (mostly of which have been suggested here). Having said that, I will show you what I have chosen and would like to know some opinions. As for the setting, i know exactly what she wants already so the design aspect for that has already been decided. As for the diamond, I intend on choosing a 1.21ct round stone VS2, I color and ideal cute (specifically whiteflash's A CUT ABOVE hearts and arrows) Would like to know some opinions on the diamond, more specifically on the color vs clarity aspect, should I compromise on the clarity and invest more on a color or vice versa? The setting has much smaller diamonds in the halo but are rated at F-G color as opposed to my intended center diamond which is color I. my own personal comparisons shows a very negligible difference almost unseen to the naked eye, however I'm interested in your opinions overall in my decisions. I'd like to keep the diamond under 10k usd. I'm pretty decided on the carat weight and cut already.

I will likely be working with Whiteflash and have been chatting and emailing with one of their employees (so far a good experience)

You have certainly made very fine choices! My personal bottom is H VS2, but lots and lots of people here buy I color. Some might say to go with H SI1 to bump up the color, and that is a valid choice. Since the stone will be in a halo, you'd just have to be sure it was 100% eyeclean from the top.

thanks for the reply, I also ask for anyone's opinion on the white gold vs platinum debate in terms of overall value and if it's worth the price jump

Like DS said, you'll get tons a different opinions on this but I'd consider looking at "H" stones since you're going w/ an F/G halo.

From your picture, the center stone seems to sit above (or slightly separated from) the halo so the side profile of the stone will be visible in comparison to the stones in the halo. I'm sure you've read that the warmth of a stone (if there is any to be seen), will usually appear in the sideview first. For that reason I'd be a little more cautious about the color of the center stone than I would be if it sat flush in the halo.

For the metal you should go with Platinum.

roxy, thanks for your response and opinion

ok so which of these 3 would you choose and why:

1.207 ct H SI1 Expert Selection Round Cut Loose Diamond

1.218 ct G SI1 Expert Selection Round Cut Loose Diamond

1.216 ct I VS2 A CUT ABOVE® Hearts and Arrows Super Ideal Round Cut Loose Diamond

I really want an ACA hearts and arrow but am willing to make small negligible compromises in cut (which isn't much considering all of the choices are AGL ideal cuts) but my situation involves a halo with F-G diamonds and want the center stone color to match as much as possible.

I like the idealscope and numbers a little better on the G if you don't end up going with the I.
