Opinions on spacer band

I tried wearing my new solitaire with a super thin spacer band I already owned and my wedding band was still hitting the prongs. Honestly as fun as jewelry is, the last thing I want to do right now is to research and buy something else. After the upgrade process I just need a break.

I have a 2mm domed stainless steel band I've been wearing but I don't want it to damage the other rings so it's just a very short term solution. I've since gotten a 1.5mm knife edge spacer. I think I like it but I can't decide if I would prefer all the bands to be the same width. The knife edge band is also a little thinner so doesn't stick out quite as far on the sides, although it's a little small so if I keep it I could get it resized which may help with that.

Which of these looks better? Do you usually prefer a spacer to blend in or have it's own presence? The Valoria is supposed to be 1.9mm but looks much thinner than the 2mm spacer, so it's definitely possible this cheap 2mm band isn't actually 2mm.

My setting does have a matching band but it costs 3x as much as this 1.5mm spacer and I honestly am just hoping for a cheap solution right now. But don't want to have to spend more in the future on a do-over.

Any opinions are appreciated!

The second thinner band looks better to me!

Another vote for the knife edge band!

Thank you! I guess the question then is whether this 1.5mm knife edge band works or if I should get one that is the exact width of my solitaire. Might take several tries/returns unless I spring for the matching one. Does the 1.5 look too thin?

I don’t think it looks too thin but I see what you mean on the width… Frustrating. Honestly if it was me I’d do a sterling silver spacer for an inexpensive solution and get another one if/when it’s chewed up.

I was considering that but I read on here that since silver is soft it can pick up abrasive items that will scratch up you gold. I don't know how much of a concern that is though. I'm sure that would be the easiest way to try different styles or widths.

Oh! I’ve never heard that, hope someone who knows about it can chime in!

I also prefer the knife edge. I think it looks very pretty and classic.

Another vote for the thinner (1.5) band. I wouldn’t mind it even thinner so your wedding band pops more.

Thanks! I have a 1mm band that is very flat that I started out with and it doesn't keep them apart at all. The rings just rub together over the top of it. The knife edge is better because it rises up some at least.

I see, that makes sense. I think I just want to see something thinner due to the taper of your ER shank and the thinness of your wedding band.
Enjoy your new upgrade, it's lovely.

Thank you!! And I agree, that's why I'm torn. My fingers are quite long so I feel like they need a stack of some sort to fill out all that space. Maybe I need all the bands to be thicker, but then I have to start all over which feels daunting. Plus I do really like how the stone pops on the thinner band. I've never had a solitaire before and I thought it would be a simple style to wear but maybe not!

I think the thinner ring looks better. Your rings are beautiful and look wonderful on your hand.

I like the knife edge as well. That said, you’re going to scratch the gold of the bands, it’s almost unavoidable. Do what you can to minimize wear to the band and the prongs but not at the expense of wearing and enjoying your new reset.

Bands and prongs can be repaired or replaced. They are sort of like a clutch on a manual car. It’s a consumable part. Albeit one that depending of how you handle it, you will get a varying amount of wear from, but a consumable nonetheless.

Is the rise or height the same on the spacer as the other rings? I have noticed that width matters less to me than height.

No, they are not quite the same, the spacer is a little shorter. It's not a huge difference but I do notice. I think the only sure fire way to avoid that is to buy the matching Valoria band.

I like the knife edge best.

I have a platinum spacer that's .8mm since I prefer them to blend in rather than be part of a stack.

You are so right! It's funny because I never thought about any of the other rings I've had damaging each other and the last set I wore for 16 years had 3 sided pave on the engagement ring! The cost of my new ring is definitely causing me to over think things. I believe it would take years to cause any real damage if at all, as the stones in the band are so small. Thanks for the perspective.

So I'm feeling pressure to make the "right" choice while I'm still in the return period for the setting. I honestly didn't want to buy anything new but I bought a small band to try. Shout out to @mochidiamonds because I saw she pairs this style with her Valoria. The milgrain edge keeps the stones from rubbing at any angle. Thoughts on this look? Is it too much or does it detract too much from the center stone?

I think they look great together.

It looks the best with this new band! Feels more like a stacking style rather than just wearing a spacer band because you need to. Although each band is different, all have the same diamond and white metal look and so it works together.

I don't think it detracts too much from the center stone. In fact it stands out more because it is less metal heavy looking with a diamond band as spacer and of course the center stone being the largest, it actually shows it off even more. Really nice! :)

The last option is GORGEOUS. I have a full bezel eternity wedding band for that same issue of the basket/prongs and my band. I even complicated the matter by getting different gold alloys (18k e-ring, 14k bezel band) and was SO worried about the 14k destroying my e-ring’s prongs. So far, nothing noticeable to the naked eye and it’s been almost 8 years.
Maybe it’s something you can live with a year or two with the perspective of, “maybe it won’t be a huge problem but if it is, I’ll get the prong replaced and figure out a band to help with the issue.”
It sounds like you just need a break to reduce your decision fatigue.
Whatever you decide, you have a beautiful wedding set!
