Opinions on this blue topaz?

So I've been very tempted to get a cocktail ring, just because :D
If things go well, this will be my second CS purchase ever, so I'm extremely inexperienced... :halo:
I've found something within my *very low* budget, and I like the shape...
I like the colour in the picture, but do you think it will look too washed out, etc IRL?
It's listed as an unheated blue topaz, 11mm in size.
Oh, and will topaz be OK as an occasional wear ring? I just want something to cheer me up when I feel down, and the shape and colour (in the picture) looks like it will do just that =)
A big thanks to all you PSers out there for your help, and for getting me addicted to this site and the wonderful world of coloured stones
Not sure if hubby appreciates that though

It's very pretty and topaz will definitely be fine as an occasional wear ring. However, the shape of the stone will require at least some customization (if not an entirely custom) in setting it so you may want to factor that in to your purchase decision.

Thanks for your opinion Kismet!
I do realize that setting the stone will probably cost a lot more than the topaz itself does, but I'm not in a rush, so it can sit in its box and let me admire it while I save again for the setting
Since it's huge in my book, I'm hoping a simple solitaire will be enough though :twirl:

How fun to be getting a ring just because and for cheering up. I'm still waiting for the day I can get my first.

I'm too new here to offer any substantial advice, but I love the color. I tend to really like pale blue colors for some reason. I guess I find them soothing or like looking out over the ocean. I really like the shape too.

Thanks KarenFe!

I like light blue stones too, and your aquamarine ring is a really pretty one

Hi Tefutefu, I am a big fan of that color and I love the shape!

I have a small star shaped Aqua, probably a bit more blue than that topaz,
and I love it!

In some cases, vendor pictures can either "wash out" or "darken"
the colors of the stones, so likely you will need to see it IRL to determine
if YOU like it! But I think it would make a lovely ring!!!!!

I agree with Kismet on the setting issue. Its a very lovely stone though. If you like it, yeah go for it! :appl: They're generally not terribly expensive and thats quite a nice size.

Shiney and Arcadian, thanks for your input and encouragement!
I just clicked the purchase button, and am getting so excited :appl:

Arcadian: I look forward to the pictures of your tourmaline :Up_to_something:

Shiney: Do you have any pictures of your aqua I could look at?

It is a bit on the light side and will do well as an occasional wear ring stone. I agree though about having 5 corners equates to requiring a custom setting.

My birth stone is topaz but I'm wondering if what is the real color of topaz stone.

They come in lots of colours: pink, pale blue, yellow, brown, white, green ... the most prized are Imperial Topaz which are an orangy-red to red colour and very pretty.

They also nuke it these days to get stronger and darker shades of blue.

Citrine quartz was often sold as golden topaz but is nothing like actual topaz.

I'm fond of topaz as long as it's not irradiated by man.

Pretty colour stone tefutetu!

Pretty color & I really like the shape. It will make an unusual ring, which is terrific.

I like the stone! The color is pretty and I think the unusual shape is interested. Excited to see what you do with it.
