This is a 1.44 ct red spinel... seems a bit orangy and maybe a bit sleepy? Priced at 796$ :errrr: ... Is the price wayyy too high?

Attached are a pic in the shade and two in the sun

Yup, sleepy and orangey. I wouldn't say way too high but it is on the high side. Any idea if it browns out indoors?

Price seems fair, but not a bargain. It is terribly orange, and like Chrono indicated, I also suspect it browns out in certain lighting.

I find direct sunlight shots hard to read. Does the orange bother you? Are you looking for orangey red or pinky red? More pictures would definitely be helpful, especially in different lighting, as others suggest.

I agree with the above. You could even ask for pictures of it in lighting that makes it look it's worst to see if you still like it. I found a similar spinel to look it's worst in mixed lighting. I love pinky red but this is a really nice bright orangey red!

apparently no brown at all, and I actually do prefer the orangy color rather than pink... it seems to go lighter in direct sunlight. pictured... but looks amazing in the shade. I am hoping it goes a little darker when set (looking into getting a pendant done)... at least slightly darker compared to being in direct sunlight.

I am going to ask for a video....

Well, if I were to set that color, I would do high karat yellow gold. That color gets less saturated in white metal. It looks great in buttery gold.

no, I don't think it was priced too high. it may be a sleepy orange but it is a keeper, imo. in fact, if you decide you don't like it, please sell it to me for the price you paid.

oh, and set that sleepy orange stone in as high karat gold as you can afford. if it were mine it would be in 22k gold...in fact, I know exactly how I'd set it.

but alas, it is not mine.

DEFINITELY in yellow gold... as high carat as I can go... might try to sell off some of my other stuff to fund it ;)

I am thinking a sliding pendant... not sure if I want in simple matte gold... or antique style bezel milgrain...probably a bezel with milgrain... wanna keep it simple and want some longevity of it! I hope the vendor isn't annoyed with me..I keep asking for more pics and then a video...still waiting for his response. I tried to ask for shipping to be thrown in... no luck tho... keeping fingers crossed for more informative visuals...;) Keep y'all posted!!

Definitely a high karat gold setting for it. If the return is risk free (full refund and no restocking fee), you might as well order it to view it in person rather than put the vendor through the time and effort of more pictures and videos. The reason I felt it should be slightly less is due to the clarity (sleepiness).

I agree with you entirely, Chrono. The sleepiness could be considered as "included" but in this case, the vendor does label as so... but sleepiness/silkiness is what I was looking for :wink2:

I am going to bite the bullet... it is kind of like a punch in the stomach when I factor in import fees and the cost of setting it, but I will wait til my birthday April to plan the setting... or maybe a month prior so that I get to wear it for my birthday.

Any recommended vendors for making the pendant? I know there are lots mentioned in the main thread... I was thinking of contacting Daniel M or Sally heart of water

Here are 2 more pics he sent me (he is being so patient wiht me!)

The first pic is in incandescent lighting and the second in fluorescent lighting

Ohhhhh.....with import fees, I would ask more questions and wait for pics/vids.
