Opinions on this teal sapphire

I have a peridot and a Mali garnet from Finewater 6ems, can't say enough good things about Gary and his business.

Thanks for your input! I haven’t seen any of his pieces in person, but everything I’ve seen of his online is stunning.

Oh that Finewater one looks nice-and unheated is a bonus.

Perhaps you can do a simple setting now and upgrade the setting later?

It is stunning. On the plus side I’m not planning to have a separate wedding band. So I can probably do a nice setting now and have one ring to rule them all haha.

The Berlinger ring is what made me change my mind to a teal sapphire in the first place - originally I was thinking of a red spinel in an Edwardian style or art deco setting!

It may be that such a gorgeous stone changes my mind about the setting style too. My poor future fiancé.

One thing to consider with a recut is that re-cutting comes with the risk of a color change to the gem. I unfortunately changed a large lovely red spinel with a purple modifier into a mostly purple spinel with a precision recut. I regret that.

This is an important ring- your engagement ring. I agree with other members that you should probably keep searching or increase your budget to buy the Finewater sapphire. But only if there is a return policy.

Oh wow, I didn’t think about color change being a possibility with a recut!

I think if you have the money and it won’t create financial hardship you should stretch to buy what you truly want. It sounds like you have been hunting a long time, so your current budget isnt exactly working for you. I’m not saying to get the Finewater one for sure. But you might consider it or pursue options like asking Yvonne Raley or Inken Krause to source you what you want. You will pay more than you might otherwise for their help but it’s worth it for a special purchase.

Ooh, thanks for the suggestion! It could be that I’ve just not been searching in the right places, as this is my first time trying to find a gem. Most of what I’ve been able to find online so far has been pretty visibly included, smaller than I’ve been looking for, or a really suspect seller.

I spent months hunting for a 4ct star sapphire to replace one I damaged. Could not find one to save my life. Contacted Yvonne Raley and she found me a perfect option in 3 hours. The coloured gem industry have its secrets! Working with people with connections can be a life saver. I would not hesitate to work with her again (and have since made a few small purchases from her shop).
